Ah, but the beauty of it is that when that is truly the reason, you can't remember all the consequences of it anyway

When getting to the Hope football broadcast via Yahoo Sports I noticed that while the website lists all the women's games that will be broadcast through February there are no links for men's basketball. The only choices for Hope are football and women's basketball. Does anyone know if Hope will no longer be streaming its radio broadcasts online this year? Or if they will be available through a different source?

Excited for the season to start. Ive heard a lot about the Flying Dutchmen, I'm just curious to as where they are going to play all of there talent, seems as if they have this problem every year. Calvin seems to have a good core, but it depends on how good Mantel wants to be. Honestly I am more excited that Cornerstone might get stomped on a lot at the beginning of the season. Does anyone know if Ryan Morlock is still playing at AQ? Sorry I had to start anew with the Screen name and all, it might take me a minute to get back up to a hundred posts. Go Knights.

KiI:  A quick check of the AQ roster did not show any Ryan M. listed.
CU is in for a tough year with the discipline problems this summer.
You are right about Calvin needing a good year from Mantel, however it is also important that some other guys step up and carry their share of the load.
Hope does have lots of talent  :) however, they can still only play 5 of them at a time, and only one ball is allowed. :D

I think all the guys are ready and eager to step up and help carry the load.  I think we'll see some great chemistry between the guys.

That roster for Hope is pretty much what I expected and hoped for, except for Cannan who really came from left field in my opinion.   The first I heard his name was in July when somewhat passed me a note saying he might give it a shot. Pretty cool to not play (is that right) in college at all and then pop onto an varsity roster already with a wealth of talent and experience.

Left field for sure!

I spoke with Josh Canan this weekend.  This is what he said about Cody:

His high school classmates would be seniors this year, but Cody Has taken light class loads at comm. college and last year at Hope, making him about a sophmore and a half.  However, he hasn't used any of his NCAA athletic eligibility, and he is an education major, so he's in what's typically a 5-yr major program.  I see he's listed as a Junior, but we theoretically could be seeing him for a few years.

So what has he been doing in terms of basketball these last few years?  Aside from playing recreationally, he has been coaching back at Calvin Christian--I think 7th grade.  Maybe CCMom could verify that?  Having not actively played in a program for a few years can't help, but I'm hoping his coaching experience could give him enough maturity and game-smarts to overcome any rustiness.

The biggest question in my mind is: will he be able to balance his academics and sports well enough that neither will suffer?  Josh told me Cody is just like him in this respect, so his advice to Cody is not to take 18 credit hours and try to play hoops.  We'll see how this plays out.

In the mean time, it will be interesting to see how Cody develops in Glen's program.  I seem to remember a team from California a dozen years ago or so that made it to the Final Four with a player who returned to college hoops after being out of high school for several years...   ;) ;) ;D

Hey Erm.  I think you are referring to me when you write "CCMom," but I am not related to Calvin Christian at all.  My "CC" stands for Calvin (having a player; I'm not a Calvin grad--I'm a UofM grad) and Chelsea (as in Chelsea High School--where John went to school, Jake is at school, and Tim will go to school).  Sorry for any confusion.  Chelsea is still deep in the throes of football (Jake plays), but I'm ready for an indoor sport!

CCMom-

Right...Chelsea...my mistake (and my apologies).

Good luck to Jake.

By the way, being a UofM grad, do you get into UofM football at all?  My wife and I had the fortune of getting tix to Saturday's game vs. Minneso-so.  What an awesome experience to watch a game in the Big House!

...just sent a personal message.  (Seems like a better option than continuing on a b-ball discussion board.)

Hope's education program is generally 4 years, it's shorter length relative to other schools is part of what makes it stand out.

It seems as though there is a lot of confusion as to his eligibility, and I believe there are certain rules as to how long you have to play, regardless of how long you go to school. I'm not sure what it is, and I'm too lazy to look it up ;)

That's good advice to any student-athlete :)

Cody is a great kid and I think that his decision to play was admirable. So many other former high school players that had potential to play college and didnt always spout "I coulda' played college ball," he is doing it. It is often hard after a couple years to come back and play at a level such as Hope or Calvin. Another former Squire also made that transition, Kyle Snoeyink. I hope that he gets his chance and makes the best of it, while continuing to finish his degree.
