The Tri-State WMU game shouldn't be much of a contest. I know the hornets tangled with the Broncos in a couple exhibition games, all of which turned out ugly for the most part. This year WMU is a tough team, in every way, which makes for a long night for Tri-State.

And... the average minutes for the starters will be 22 minutes! This game should see all the Broncos within the first half easily.

Not that the pre-season d3hoops top 25 poll doesnt matter, but where are they going by putting Williams in the top 20 with a 16-12 record?

By the way I hope that David Kool drops 35 on Tri-harder.

1-Hope
2-Calvin
3-Albion

The reason that i picked the miaa that way is because Hope and all there fans love being number one at the beginning of the year. Calvin at number two because they LOVE to sneak up on teams at the end of the year and dash Hopes dreams and ROMAN NUMERAL III t-shirts. I picked Albion third because honestly these are the only three teams in the miaa that have made it to the big dance in quite some time(errr...Defiance.)

You may find that there are a few Hope fans here that would disagree with you.

d3hoops preseason poll is out:

Looks like I'll have a good game to attend on Jan. 25 between UPS and L & C in Portland. Haven't been to a live DIII game since '03.

Then do the satellite game the next day... Wonder if I can get a 24hr hall pass???

I may be mistaken, but hasn't the winner of the regular season MIAA the last few years not been the team that the coaches picked to win it?

2005, Hope was picked to win it.  Albion won it.

2006, Hope was picked to win it.  Calvin won it.

2007, Calvin was picked to win it.  Hope won it.

Pretty sure 2003, Calvin was picked to win it?....and Albion and Hope won it.

Forgot who was picked to win it in '04.

I can't speak for all of my peers, but as a voter I feel my job is to cast a preseson ballot based on how I think 2007-08 will play out...not solely based on last year.  Williams was 16-12 last year, winning 8 of their final 11.  One of these wins was a 70-69 victory over eventual national champion, and NESCAC rival, Amherst (at Amherst).  Williams returns all 5 starters and 6 of their top 7 scorers.  They'll be lead by two very good seniors...

Chris Shalvoy (14.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg)
Chris Rose (15.4, 6.0 rpg)

As a voter, I look for a natural progression from one year to the next when a large % of a nucleus returns.  As I evaluated Williams, I saw a Top 25 team.

Sort of surprised by Albion's position in the preseason polls.  They are a huge question mark to me.  They struggled last year with their identity, and I don't see them as a traditional Albion team this year.  They have a talented squad, and could do considerable damage, but if they do, I don't think it will be with the high-low attack they've used recently (unless, of course, some new talent emerges in the post).  I would not feel confident enough with the way they play to place them higher than fifth.

Does anyone know of any Calvin scrimmages? CCM?

PicknRoll new to the board and your first prediction is perfect! According to the WMU website the Broncos beat Tri-State 94-54 this evening.

Andre Patrick led Tri-State with 14 and Tony Benford added 12.

Major Kudos to you on your prediction of the game.  Make sure to sign up for the MIAA Pick'em Contest!

PicknRoll

What can I say? Lucky guess...or was it the fact that I have an incredible understanding of D3 hoops that my predictions are based on a mathematical formula I discovered after years of research. Ok, I admit, it wasn't the latter. However, I hope that I can continue these pinpoint predictions come MIAA season for the hornets when they are playing teams like the Dutchmen or Knights.

...ok some recruiting of my own for more pro-Hornet posters. Where are some of the guys I know....flying squirrel? podacter? lumberjack?

Stinger

It took a while, but I just handed out my first Karma.  Nice work PicknRoll.

Any other Hornet posters are more than welcome.

Here's a telling quote from a current K employee and K'84 graduate in a recent issue of the Index, K's  student newspaper

"Another noticeable difference for Diment is attendance at sporting events.

'I was friends with several of the basketball players and I remember the games being much better attended than they are now," said Diment. "We used to have a full student section with loud cheering, and there was a group of unofficial 'cheerleaders' [guys] called the 'Stingers.'  We'd get the students fired up.'"

This is way off topic but I wonder if anyone knows what Stephen Cramer is up to. Considering past MIAA talent that has played over in Europe I am sure Cramer has more than enough talent to play abroad but I am not sure if he or any other seniors from last year have made that plunge. Anyone know?

I believe the Rhinehart brothers are playing in the same league.
