I thought I heard that the Hall of Fame Classic the weekend after Thanksgiving was being changed so that Hope and Calvin are guaranteed not to see each other.  But, both Hope and Calvin's websites list the Saturday games as Championship and Consolation.  Am I remembering things wrong, or did something change?

so hornets have a big weekend...wheaton and wittenburg are in the tournament...not sure of the fourth team

It's Benedictine.

PicknRoll, meet Kent Raymond. Kent, this here's PicknRoll. He thinks that your team is going to lose to his Hornets on Friday evening.

OK... I must admit, while I don't really care about "Karma" (considering Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and all), I am perturbed (I'm sure that is what was hoped for...) about the Karma FAIRY sucking me dry.

Seriously, if you have an issue with me, have the balls to tell me so. Please don't hide behind the anonymous curtain of Karma FAIRYING... It is really junior highish of you!

Good luck to all this weekend. Here's to a better pre-conference start for the MIAA this year!

Greg,

What does the rest of the "man of steel's" team look like this year?  Is he carrying a big load or does he have help?

Raymond's got some decent pieces around him. There's 6'8, 230 junior center Andy Wiele, who's been a starter both of his first two seasons at Wheaton. He averaged 8.0 ppg and 6.1 rpg last season, and apparently he's put some muscle onto his heretofore bony frame for this season. Wiele had a 25 and 14 game against Hope last season in the CCIW/MIAA Classic, so he apparently takes exception to other teams wearing Wheaton's colors. ;) Then there's 6'3 sophomore Ben Panner (9.1 ppg), Raymond's backcourt running mate. Panner's an interesting story. Some people in the CCIW think he's got great game, others don't think he's all that and a plate of fish & chips. (Count me in the latter category.) Regardless, he's still a solid player. And the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance added a very strong impact transfer this year from west suburban Chicago neighbor Benedictine in 6'7, 205 sophomore forward Jacob Carwell. He put up 10.7 and 7.5 numbers last year for the Bennies, and was one of only two freshmen to be named to the NAthCon's honorable mention team.

Beyond that, Wheaton's got a solid backup big man in senior Phil Denham, and not much else in the way of experience. Wheaton won't go deep into their bench, but, then again, Wheaton never does. Their best incoming freshman, guard Andrew Jahns, is injured and won't see action in the Lee Pfund Tourney.

I was told (by an "inside" presence) that Calvin and Hope will indeed play each other if they both win Friday.  The following weekend, they will not play each other at the tournament.

This raises the possibility of playing 5 times again.  :(

I won't pretend to know anything about Wheaton, other than their women's soccer team is crazy good.

Passage led Hornets have gone into places like Wooster and Elhmurst and come away with wins.  Greg's description of Wheaton is quite scary.  Kellogg is going to have to handle Wiele without getting into foul trouble, and I'm not really sure who is going to defend Raymond.  I'd make him work on both ends. Target him with a ton of screens (back screens, specifically) when he is playing defense.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

GS: That was pretty funny. If I knew how to give out karma I probably would. If you would have thrown in something witty about kzoo possibly winning I would have spent the time to find out.

I agree. The description of Wheaton sounds like a might task. The hornets will have to be at their best!

sac

Wheaton is solid, I expect Hope and Calvin to have  tough games with the Thunder in 2 weeks.  A win for Kzoo would be a huge feather in the cap for the Hornets and would definately open some eyes.

The Hall of Fame Classic:  I think like everyone, the tournament format is completely opposite of what people had been telling me all summer, and I'd asked alot of people.  So something's changed.  :-\

Same here.  In fact, it was the topic of discussion in our house last night, as well as a few web searches.  Came to the same conclusion as SKOT -- it looks like the possibility of 5x exists  (shudder).   :o

I heard the call of the Hornets, and I finally had a chance to review some of the past posts. So it seems PicknRoll was on the money for his first prediction (WMU over Tri-state by 40...impressive) and now he has Kzoo over Wheaten...I like it...and it would certainly be more impressive. Stinger, PicknRoll...glad to join you for the Hornet's season.

Mr. Ypsi

I'll be in Albion tomorrow for at least the IWU/Tri-State game (and probably at least the first half of Albion/Rochester).  Two questions:

IWU lists the game as 5; since they are central time, is the game actually at 5 or 6?

Which posters should I be looking out for?  (sac will be there, unless something has changed; anyone else?)

HopeConvert

I'm praying there is no way for Hope and Calvin to meet. I'll see if I can't track down the skinny on this. (Of course, as a CRC-bred Calvin grad who converted to Catholicism and Hope College, I can't imagine my prayers are going to carry a whole lot of weight.)

It'll be great for the MIAA if K-zoo beats Wheaton. I for one will be mighty surprised if it happens, but I'll be happy if it does. I think I'll be happy if the MIAA splits the MIAA/CCIW challenge. Any thoughts on that?

SKOT:  The CU site is still showing it as "Select Bank classic".  If you go back in the archives there was discussion (on this site) about that, and it seemed many readers assumed a classic by definition was more of a MIAA/CCIW round robin match..  At this point I would not rule out a Hope/Calvin rematch as a possibility.  Calvin plays CU on Friday, and CU is 2-3 at this point, with 2 more games this weekend.  CU has some weapons, but think Calvin has too many horses for them to handle.  Plus Calvin will have a game against either Wash U or ONU under their belt so they will have been battle tested.  Hope, on the other hand will be facing an AQ team that is 4-0, and each of it's games have been close, low scoring games.  I know several Hope posters previously have expressed some concern about their first game being against a team with game experience.  Don't be surprised if Hope has their hands full against AQ. :)
PnR:  :) Relax you don't get the "power" of karma + or - until 200 posts.  Good to see some new posters on this site.  Welcome, and please play nice (don't say anything negative about Hope). :D
