All in all, an embarrassing "effort" by the Sentinel. :(

Using the words embarrassing and Sentinel in the same sentence is a bit redundant.   :D
Actually that is one of their more accurate stories.

I guess I needn't point out that the article also incorrectly claims that Mantel had "a team-high 4.0 rebounds per game last year" so I won't.

Sheesh, now I'm starting to wonder if Griffin and KVS were accurately quoted in the article. :o

Maybe we should invite Mr. Babbit to be part of our discussion--and to submit his game-preview articles to us before print.

All right, all right...let's cut the Sentinel some slack.  Sure, they struggle with details (facts, some call them  ;) ), and sure, we Hollanders love to pick on them.  But if all Calvin fans are going to join in, well...it's like when the bully would pick on my little brother.  I hated him (my brother) most of the time, but if someone else starts picking on him, I'd suddenly feel the need to defend the poor, defenseless so-and-so.   Don't make me go there, please!   ;D

C'mon, oldknight, Babbitt probably meant that Mantel's four boards a game was team high for a freshman.
And, frankly, I can't weight for Josh to add 400 points this season.

Go there, CM.... :D

I agree that Hollanders should have first dibs on picking on Mr. Babbit, UNLESS he's writing an article about Calvin, then we Calvin fans can lead the charge (even if it means losing karma!)

Yeah, you're probably right. Getting the details properly nailed down isn't really that big of a deal is it? It's not like misleading details could actually lead a country to go to war, after all. ::) :-X

I'm guessing that the majority of you are the type of people who are the FIRST to march into your church office on Monday morning complaining that there was "one" error in your church bulletin too!!!  So much for the million of things that are correct!

Good thing basketball season is here, attacks on the media are getting pretty rampid. Here's a word of warning - look out team managers, you're next!!!!  Maybe the popcorn wasn't popped enough... or that the mustard was too yellow and the catsup too red!!  (Hey NWHope fan, After this post I'm going to kiss my karma goodbye too!!)

Time for a little levity, and speaking of church bulletins, check out this list of funny church announcements:

I really like this one:

59. Youth basketball team is back in action Wednesday at 8 PM in the recreation hall. Come out and watch us kill Christ the King.

A church bulletin misprint is very different than factual error in a news paper.  Facts in an article aren't supposed to be just 'mostly' correct.  Typos are one thing but several errors in information is not acceptable in a NEWS paper

This one is really good too:

27. The Associate Minister unveiled the church's new tithing campaign slogan last Sunday: "I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours."

I go to bed last night and nothing is happening on this board. I wake up and get around to checking it today and I have missed nearly two full pages of discussions about typos! Oh my, oh my is it good there is actually going to be some basketball played tonight so we have something serious to dissect.

On another note, its killing me that Hope (the men, I am aware the women are playing) aren't playing this weekend. >:(

Excellent. Let's add another thing about which to argue. It's in our blood, you know. As Peter DeVries wrote: “On Sundays we went to church and in between services we sat around and engaged in doctrinal disputation, in which we became adept at a very early age. It was said about us, ‘One Dutchman, a Christian, two Dutchmen, a congregation, three Dutchmen, heresy.' We accepted and even repeated this without any apologies or any suggestion that there was anything wrong with this religious pugnacity. We were the product of a schism, and we produced schisms.”
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...
