Hope held Kent Raymond to zero first half points, but he exploded (literally) with 17 in the second

Actually sac, I think you mean figuratively. If Raymond literally exploded this means you had a mess on your hands last year and Calvin won't have much to worry about from Raymond Saturday--not unless all the king's horses and all the king's men put Kent back together again.  :D

Since Raymond went on to win the CCIW's Fred Young MOP last season, I'd say they patched him back together a bit TOO well as far as fans of the other seven teams are concerned! ;D

Mr. Y - are we going to be seeing you up in GR this weekend?

From a Hope perspective, it was literally and messy.  In the interest of accuracy, Raymond wasn't held scoreless in the first half, just 2, but didn't score for about 18 minutes.  A little victory for the Dutchmen.  Then *BOOM* 9 points in 3 minutes.

I hope Adrian remembers to pencil it in this year too.  ;)

Titan Q

MIAA friends, good luck with Mr. Kent Raymond this weekend.  Hope he doesn't get ya for 30!  He put 44 on my Titans last year in Bloomington, including 20-20 FT.  It wasn't fun.

Also lookout for Steve Djurickovic, aka "Little Bosko."  Carthage head coach Bosko Djurickovic's son, a freshman, is averaging 23.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 4.3 apg after his first four collegiate games.

Wish I could make the games - should be a great tournament.

Good point!  What did last year's game reach before the benches totally cleared - 57-14? :o

That's too bad, but we will look for you at Adrian.  Do you know of any CCIW posters who are making the trip?

Actually the sun is shinning right now in GR, most of the snow is melting, and the roads are fine.  Still not a bad idea to drive carefully though

From all the reading of posts on various boards it would seem that both Hope, and Calvin are going to have their hands full.  Carthage seems to rely very heavily on 3 players for the bulk of their scoring, and expect them to be very up tempo.  GS is probably right a key for Calvin is pounding it down inside.  He didn't mention it, but (like last weekend) I think controlling the boards is going to be a major factor.  Many of the posters on the CCIW pick board seem to feel it could go 2-2 or possibly 3-1 in the MIAAs favor.  Most seem to think Wheaton has the best chance knocking off Hope, and giving Calvin all they can handle tomorrow.  I am going to go for 4-0 MIAA sweep.  Both Calvin and Hope have had the week to apply the lessons they learned in the AQ game.  Also Carthage and Wheaton had games on Wed. so fatigue (plus being on  the road) may be factors.

Realist - I would not count on fatgiue bothering Carthage or Wheaton.

With Carthage, as Sager noted you have to take the ball inside and to the hoop while defensively you have got to guard the perimeter and get in their face.  Give Carthage a little space on the perimeter can be a big mistake.  From a game flow perspective, Carthage makes you defend a perimeter game racing to hit the boards, then to beat them when you have the ball you need to shift to an inside game.

WIth Wheaton, Raymond is capable of putting the game out of reach before you can comeback from the concession stand with popcorn and a soda.  All reports on CCIW Chat  are Weile much stronger tha last year.  He has the skills on offensive but needed to be a little bit stronger.  He will be a handful for your bigs as he can move his feet to get good position.

And, Carthage's Bosko and Wheaton Harris are a couple of the better, experienced coaches in D3 that can make adjustments on the fly as good as anyone coaching the game.  This should be a great tournament.

The first note of interest tonight is that it appears DVS will be starting for Hope.

Edit: That was just confirmed in the radio starting line-up calls.

Hope is off to an absolutely scorching start to this game!!!

Hope leads 23-4 with 9 minutes left in the first half. Wheaton already has 10 turnovers!

Hope 49
Wheaton 18
Half

As we hit halftime there are a couple notes of interest.

First, Weile hasn't played since the first 3 minutes of the game. No fouls on him either. He is a big part of their inside out game with Raymond so I am sure he is missed.

Second, as incredible as it may sound Wheaton and Hope's field goal percentage is quite close. Hope finished at  54.1% thanks to making their last few shots and Wheaton finished at 42.9%.  Yes, an 11 point spread but not enough to account for a 31 point halftime lead. The difference in the game is all turnovers! Wheaton turned the ball over a shocking 21 times in the first half!!! :o :o :o Hope had 5 turnovers. That translated into 16 fewer field goal attempts as well.

I can't get over that turn over number. 21 is too many for an entire game, yet alone a half.

Wolfe and MVH lead Hope with 12 and 11 respectively.

Raymond has 10 of Wheaton's 18.
