Stinger:  I can well understand why you have less favorable memories of that 93 game.  Haklin had his boys ready, and they did everything they could, and shut down most of Calvin's players.  Honderd just wasn't going to be denied that day.  He even had to switch jerseys at one point due to blood from a cut on the elbow.
That has to be one of the all time best Hornet/Knight games.  I don't recall the specific shot you are referring too, and it is possible Hondo got a favorable call.  As I recall he seemed to get along well with most refs.

Or as those of us who aren't Calvin fans called it

One of the best college basketball games I have ever seen.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I thought that line might get a response or two.  Over the years I recall several Hope players (Holstege) that seemed to do quite  nicely courting the refs.

I would put it as one of my top games as well.  It was definitely one of the most intense games I ever saw, and the greatest single performance.  K played excellent defense, and really contolled the game except when Hondo touched the ball.

Thanks for the game summary BDA.  Sounds like, despite the final score, it was an exciting game, as expected.

While we're waiting for more games to talk about, here's some updated info on Immink and Cramer.  When last we discussed them here, Immink was in fact on a 4-week trial period with a new team in Preividza, Slovakia.  Things are working out well there, so it looks like this is where he'll be for a while.  If I understand it correctly, this new league is a couple of steps up from the league he was in in Germany.  Slovakia is a totally different creature, both the country and the league.  He's been playing about 35 minutes a game, and the last game they played they won, which moved them out of last place.  Evidently the reffing is more suspect than even in our beloved MIAA, so you really have to be able to win big in order to win at all.

Cramer is also doing well.  Last we heard from him he had scored 46 and 41 points in his last 2 games.  He, too, is playing a bunch of minutes and carrying his team along.  Look for him to do some moving up next season as well.

Halftime, Hope is rolling.........it was 34-22 with about 5 1/2 minutes to go, 2 minutes later its 48-22.  The run finished as a 23-4 run to end the half  57-26.

Ty Tanis finished off the run with 3 straight 3's.

I'd say good all around play, after a slowish start shooting.

Few things stand out, Hope goes 10-20 from 3 in the first half (thats a good game), 14 steals for Hope 19 turnovers for Marygrove.  Hope had 21 more shots at the hoop.

Reimink 13, Wolfe 10, Tanis 9, VanSolkema 8, VanderHeide 7.........probably should mention it was 5-0 Marygrove to start.

Hope wins tonight in impressive fashion and gets a shot at revenge tomorrow against Aquinas. Should be a great game.

FINAL in Holland

Hope 100 Marygrove 52

More of the same in the 2nd half, the end of the half run was extended to the first 5 of the half and ended at 34-5.  Largest lead hit 53.

I'm going to add, Marygrove drops to 1-9, their lone win over Great Lakes Bible, who I don't believe has won a game this season.  Marygrove is transitioning to NAIA II with the hopes of joining the WHAC.

23 steals for Hope, 31 turnovers for Marygrove.........26 assists on 39 baskets for Hope.

Reimink 19, Tanis 12, VanSolkema 11, VanderHeide 11, Wolfe 10, Bowser 9

Should be 2 great games tommorrow, Hope(4-1) vs Aquinas (10-0) and then the women with Hope (6-0) vs Albion (6-0) to follow.

Well, um, yeah, that wasn't very close. I would have preferred watching Hope's starters play the backups. I'm surprised it was only 20 turnovers in the first half, even though that is one a minute. It seemed like Marygrove turned it over every time up the floor. What stood out to me. Marcus played hard. Carter is quick. Like, really quick, with a great crossover dribble. Bowser is very athletic, and once he learns to finish every shot he'll bew a handful. Sharples looked a little sluggish to me defensively. Riding his guy's hip a lot. Reimink had a great game, and has added a nice mid-range jumper to his repertoire. Great form on his shot.

When I was looking up Marygrove I saw that 1-8 start to the season.  This is the game Hope needed prior to the HOF game with AQ.   At this point I think Hope is playing sharp enough, and with balance they should handle AQ.  My guess is Hope by 7 pts.  The inside game could be a problem, but the perimeter shooters seem to be finding their touch.
The De Vos is definitely the place to be tomorrow for basketball.

No, not a very close game.  Not too much excitement.  But that's not to say there wasn't any excitement at all!

Will Bowser had the opportunity for not one, but two dunks.  The first he restrained himself and went for a nice layup instead.  The second was an alley-oop from Carter that just wasn't quite there.  It'll come, and it will be fun! :D

The very best of the excitement, however, was reserved for a senior.  Dan Holt, haunted by the "100" mark and it's escape from his clutches for at least 3 previous games, gets fouled with Hope at 98 points.  The crowd held it's breath.  The air was electric.  And he missed both free throws!   :)  But as fate would have it, he was able to redeem himself with an apt pass from Bosch and a nice layup that put the Dutchmen at 100.  The curse of the 100th point has been broken!  ;D  Now, I'm not sure what was the best of it -- seeing him score that basket, or the reaction of the Dew Crew, the bench, and those around us who remembered his beleaguered past.  But it was great fun, none the less.  Congrats, Dan!
