Looks like the RDV Tournament has brought in some really solid teams from across the country (as well as Tri-State).  It looks like Hope has two very difficult games in front of them in Roanoke and Elmhurst. I am glad Roanoke is the first game though. Of the two I think Roanoke is not quite as good as Elmhurst who played Oshkosh very close in a 2 point loss on the road. If Hope can win both of these games it will do great thinks for its in-region record!!! GO HOPE!!!

The tough thing about the Elmhurst game is that short turnaround - finish on the 18th by 11 - 11:30 - maybe even 12:00 if any of the games go long, and then have to be ready to play 15 hours later.

I went to a high school game last night where the entire 15 man lineup had dark hair, as well as all 3 coaches and 98% of the fans .  That was pretty weird for me  :D  If that wasn't weird enough I became completely dumbfounded as to where I knew the opposing coach from,  Travis Balzer.  Turns out he is of course an MIAA alum and played basketball at Albion around the turn of the millenium.  He's coaching at Shephard High School.

I was very impressed with him as a coach, snappy dresser, always encouraging and he had the task of finding a way to defend a 6-8 sophomore center.   Which they did very well, in fact they kept the ball out of his hands for about 10 straight minutes.

As HS games go, this one was really good, after an 8-0 run which included a breakaway off the backboard pass for a dunk to the 6-8 stud (shameless :D) the game turned into a back and forth struggle where neither team led by more than 4 after the first 3 or 4 minutes.  Not a single 3 point attempt untill 5 minutes to go, then both teams went crazy for a couple minutes.  In the end the mighty Greyhounds and their 6-8 stud prevailed.

The 6-8 kid is Alex Gauna, think Tony Gugino without the 3 point shot.   He'd be a great D3 player, but believe it or not the big boys are already calling.  If he keeps improving as much as he did this summer, I can see why, lots of upside.

(give me a break slow week)

The quick turnaround should be much easier on the 20 year olds,....... not so much on the Blue Crew.

Congratulations to sac on hitting the 100 mark.

By the way, I take it you put a bug in the sophomore's ear - told him about this fine little liberal arts college in Holland...

I'd say that Christmas has come early for those of us who are able to travel south.  A little sun, a little warm weather, great basketball (hours worth!) and time with the Mouse!  Now that's a Merry Christmas!  ;D

You have cut me to the quick! :'(   FDF says he will now make it his mission to find another "special" sweatshirt to take a picture of for you in Disney...   ;)

Not impacting anything for this year but a question for the future.  Is there any chance that 6'-8" Dan Possehl from Tri-Unity Christian goes to an MIAA school or will he end up going somewhere on scholarship?

I think he could be an outstanding MIAA player, especially in maroon and white  ;D,  anybody know who is looking at him because I know he is still uncommitted.

Happy Holidays to everyone and safe travels.

He's an athletic big kid with some skill, if he wants a scholarship someone will have one available.

Steven Bell has him ranked as the #1 power forward Sr. in the state.  I doubt he'll see an MIAA floor unless his MAC or low D1 school schedules one.  The only thing working against him is playing against  Class C and D competition.  That might hold him down to the GLIAC.

For those of you traveling to Orlando, a directional note.  FDF and I were at the RDV Sportsplex last year to watch Albion play.  If memory serves us correctly, the google and/or other internet driving directions are slightly incorrect.  The last turn is listed as a left and should be a right (or the other way around, I don't have them in front of me right now).  We checked them again this year, and they still have that turn "wrong."  FDF did a satellite search to verify, and he's pretty sure about it.  So, FWIW, allow a little extra time in case some adjustments are needed.

Also, we used what appeared to be the "front" entrance, but this sends you on a wild goose chase to find the practice gym.  It is located more toward the back of the facility, and there's a much more accessible entrance there.

Good luck, and we'll see you in a few days! :)

I just looked again (confirmed via satellite view), and Mapquest, Yahoo Maps, and Google Maps will all tell you that after exiting from I-4 at Exit 90B that you need to turn left when you get to Maitland Summit Blvd.  You need to turn RIGHT on Maitland Summit Blvd, and the RDV Sportsplex will be on your right.  CM is right, go around to the back side entrance for the games.

He's the #1 unsigned power forward in the state.  He is a talented kid but he's thin.

realist

Tall, skinny kids from Tri -Unity have gone on to some success. :)
I notice a forward from W. Zeeland, Kingshott.  Is this any relation to the kid at CU now?
Also the Neil from W. Ottawa, does Hope have a lock on this kid?
