80-47 Knights.
28 Veldhouse
12-7 Engelsma
10 Griffin

After hanging around for a while, Adrian has tanked completely, now losing 89-62.  From the livestats, it appears that one or two technical fouls in the second half seemed to derail Adrian.

happy holidays- its been quite some time for me and i apologize. sounds like the knights have stumbled as of late. i just watched the carthage game and they seem to lack the "thirst for blood" mentality when it comes to winning. i really wish that they would have the attitude to go out to beat everybody by 50. seems to be working for hope. if someone could give me and update on the calvin game that would be stellar. i hope everyone is enjoying the firey start to the miaa season.

Caleb Veldhouse was great today, 12-17 from the field, 4-5 on 3's.  Josh Englesma also played very well.  Griffin struggled.  Mantel just didn't seem mentally into it, 1-7 from the field, 1 rebound and sat because of foul trouble.  I thought Koetsier played pretty well off the bench.  Schuster no time until garbage time.  Strunk 5 shots in 4 minutes.

KVS on the post game also sent his wishes for a blessed Christman for his son in Ramadi.

KII:  Given your current venue, I guess I understand your disappointment in the Knights' "thirst for blood" deficit. Since I was at Calvin's game with the Trolls this afternoon I'll try and give you an update on its result. In recent years Calvin has not played particularly well against Trinity so today's game was an exception. The first half showed some speed bumps on the road to victory but the longer they were on the floor the better Calvin played. Trinity doesn't play great defense and Calvin's shooting reflected some of that. Trinity simply had no answer for Veldhouse who has quietly become a brilliant player. As big a splash he made as a freshmen, Caleb has elevated his game and is doing things this year that we only occasionally saw from him his first two years at Calvin. Specifically, Veldhouse has become very good at taking his man off the dribble all the way to the basket. I've seen him drive to the hoop far more this year. He's very good at finishing and he seems to wear out defenders who used to be able to frustrate Calelb by putting a body on him on the perimeter. Veldhouse also is excellent at abusing a smaller defender when he posts up and his teammates are learning to look for him when he does so. He's become a much more versatile and balanced player in his time at Calvin. In short he's a really tough matchup at the D3 level.

Engelsma did an excellent job in relief of Mantel who was given a couple of cheap calls, only played 13 minutes, and was in foul difficulty all night. Engelsma is looking more comfortable every game he's in and should be a major player for the Knights over the next 3 years. I'm glad he's one Covenant Christian Charger who didn't get scooped up by our friends in Holland. I don't think Hope made a much of a play to get Josh and, if so, I think GVW may regret that yet.

Congratulations to Caleb Veldhouse on a great game and joining the career 1,000 point club.

Madonna 86, Albion 80----I think that has to be characterized as a surprising and disappointing loss.  Boxscore... http://ww3.madonna.edu/crusaders/2004%20Site/mens%20basketball/07Stats/MU_AC.htm    Madonna just shot lights out!

Bluffton 89, Adrian 63----disappointing margin
Calvin 80, Trinity Christian 47
Kalamazoo 66 Davenport 60
Anderson, Ind. at Olivet, postponed

MIAA now 24-30

Wow, another disappointing day for the MIAA overall. Realy doesn't help the league with Adrian and Albion losing very winnable games today. ??? These sort of losses really have the potential to hurt Hope or Calvin (assuming one team gets the automatic NCAA berth via the MIAA tourney and the other team is waiting for a Pool C bid).

Sounds like Calvin was a lot more like the team we expected them to be this afternoon. I know they have struggled with Trinity in the past but until they play that sort of game against a higher quality opponent again I'll still wonder what to think of the Knights. Of course I am still terrified of their potential as a Hope fan.

Looks like the Hornets pulled out their first victory of the year 66-60 in the consolation game of the Marian Tourney against Davenport.  Pretty balanced scoring for the team.  Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going.

OK... This may sound stupid, but while I am a huge basketball fan, I'm not a stats guy. As a matter of fact everything I don't know about basketball I blame on being a wrestler...

Can someone please explain the "points" above???  I feel absolutely retarded.... So are points not baskets? EH???!!! ??? :P :-[

I've looked at the stat sheets and can't figure out the numbers.

The points are points.  Not sure how else to explain it. :-\

I come up with 1648 for Eric... what am I missing?

And 1937 for Bos...

Not so dumb... Just slow!   :D

That is why you said Caleb had 378...  ::) :P

I'm not sure we can classify a win against Davenport as "momentum."  But it is a start.
