Hey, if FDF and Civic can spark a 12-1 run by getting a T, get 'em a megaphone! ;D

If they can pull off something like that in a tourney game, s'pose they'll get varsity letters? ;)

To clarrify, it wasn't necessarily them or other posters, my chastising them was more of a joke to them.

Hey, I knew that - but you tryin' to spoil their moment of glory?! ;D

I just get home, turn on d3hoops and have to go through 5 pages of posts between 8 pm and now. Good grief, do any of us have a life?

Oldknight, I feel your pain.  See my next post.  While you might be more up-to-date than I am, this might help somebody on the board.   ;)

:D   Let's Talk MIAA Public Service Message   :D

Greetings to all readers on the board.  Some of you do a marvelous job of keeping up-to-date with your reading and posting on this board all year, in season and out, and I salute you for your dedication.  Some of us pursue "other pursuits" during the off-season period, and may tend to forget to "post up" regularly.

If you're one of the few like me who did not keep up with their regular reading on this board during the off-season, then you're way behind on reading, and may find it difficult to catch up on all we may have missed.  As a public service to those who would like a convenient way to pick up wherever you left off, Roughrider offers the following table of links to pages published in the off-season, in 20-page increments, to assist you in your catch-up (not to be confused with DeVos Heinz ketchup  ;)  ) quest for some light reading on your free time during the upcoming holidays.  While I may not have missed all the pages listed, I did miss sections here and there while pursuing my other pursuits between logging in, reading, and just plain lurking.

I would gladly take credit - and I know I thought some things that could have resulted in a T, but the fact is that the T was actually called on the bench, not the fans (as we had previously been lead to believe).

Was Geerlings reffing - no, but he would have been a vast improvement.  These guys were horrid.  In reality, the second half wasn't really better, they completely blew some calls both ways.  As heard from several players, it was like playing in a high school game.  But the important things is that Hope played through it, and while it was U G L Y, it was still a quality win.

CM says thanks Mr. Ypsi for the moment of glory, it was a hoot.

Amazing... 62 sites!

Does this happen with any other schools our size. I'm proud to contribute, and got us on the map out here...

I notice Hawaii does not have a location... Anyone up for mid January '09 on the islands??? I'd be happy to put something together there!  8) I'm guessing finding someone to serve beer at 9:00 in the morning may be the biggest issue!!!  :D Just looked at the newest alumni directory for Hope and there are 30 people listed in Hawaii... could happen.

Here's a couple interesting positives to take away from the game.

2 of Roanoke's leading scorers Peery and LaPorte were held to 6 and 2 points respectively.  Probably right to assume Hope took the hack a big man approach.

Hope's starting front line of Reimink, VanderHeide and Klein played a grand total of 43 minutes.   All of this while the starting gaurds went for zero first half points, the 3 best 3 point shooters went 1-13.

....and they still won.

Bowser comes up with 11, Klein 11, Wolfe 10 all in the second.  I think Hope had some great minutes from the bench tonight.

Any team can win when they play well.

Good teams win when they play poorly.

That's the way I'm going to look at it.

Looking at the box score this morning, it reflects the experience pretty well - lots of fouls, decent rebounding, 11 guys with 11 or more mintes, and a real team effort.

The second group (6 guys who were on the floor a lot in a variety of combinations) of Bowser, Carter, Kratz, Osburn, Sharples, and Tanis really played well, and their stats show it.  In 102 minutes of play, they accounted for:

34 points on 15-30 shooting
21 rebounds
4assists
3 blocks
7steals

and maybe most importantly, only 12 fouls.

Great win for the Hornets last night.  It was very nice to see a Hornet team get physical on defense and own the boards.  K held Bluffton 17 points below it's season scoring average.   It was a collective effort on the defensive end, and I love to see that.  Guys were rotating on the helpside, boxing out strong and going up to secure the rebound.  The Hornets took a 55-47 lead only to give up a 10-0 run to the Beavers.  From their the Hornets took control and got the stops they needed down the stretch to win the game.

Good to see some former Hornets in the stands last night.

Great day to be a Hornet

I can confirm it was a 'T' on the Hope fans, and it had nothing to do with language, just sensitivity.  Wow thats something. :D :D :D

I don't ever want to read a Hope fan write about how bad Hornet fans have been again.  That is embarrasssing.

See the FDF post above, the board readers were mis-informed and the first hand account is that it was not the fans:

If we can't gripe about Kzoo fans in general, can we still complain about the horn that one player's mother would incessantly blow during games, is that still around?

Hope fans reacting to how K fans have been has little if anything to do with the refs.   :-*

On a more positive note, congrats to the Hornets on the big win last night.  I had a feeling they were going to be more competitive this year than their record thus far indicates.  I'll get my first look at them Jan 16 at the DeVos.  The next couple of games look winnable.  Marygrove is certainly beatable--they have a few on their roster who kept trying to put the "I" in team.  Didn't work out very well on the 7th.  And Alma...  Only 24 teams with a lower Massey rating.  Nuff sed.

A question about last night's game for those who were able to watch:  In the postgame interview on WHTC, they mentioned it was a fast-paced game.  Was that a major factor in the outcome?  I guess what I'm asking is did Hope wear Roanoke down by forcing a faster pace throughout the game?  It was close well into the second half, when Hope started to slowly build to their margin of victory.  That seems to me like one team simply being able to outlast an otherwise evenly-matched opponent.

Glad we have a final answer on the T actually being on the bench.  I know the announcer sure had it both ways for awhile. ;)
At this point the Hope fans should be feeling good.  I remember some games in 99-00 when Calvin just plain won ugly.  If you can't do that, and have your bench perform under adverse circumstances you aren't going to survive once the dancing starts.
Good win for Hope.   :)  Roanoke also had some of their big guys sit for a while with foul trouble.  It may be an advantage this afternoon if MVH, and the others have fresher feet guarding Elmhurst big men.  Late game early game can be a killer.
