Hi folks

Just letting you know that we'll be broadcasting the Montclair State Tournament at which Calvin will be this weekend. I know you have a local broadcast, but should you have any difficulties with that, or want to hear the other games, you can tune in.

Link will be on the front page and at http://www.d3hoops.com/audio

Its finally time for some more basketball!  ;D These week long lay-offs are killing me. I am glad they are almost over for the year.

Yeah, but then there's another one for Hope and Calvin as they don't play till the 9th of January.  Looks like Hope will have a tough first test in the MIAA as they face Albion...plenty time to prepare, though!  Luckily college football bowl games should hold us for a while until then.

I think this lay-off will benefit Calvin players a lot, though.

I see no benefit in playing just 2 games in 24 days, and just 3 in 35 days.

Other than rest, the only benefit I see is starting out with a softer MIAA opponent and having 2 more games before playing a challenging Albion team.

Games between 12-4 and 1-9-08

Adrian 5 games
Albion 4 games
Alma 4 games
Calvin 3 games
Hope 6 games
Kalamazoo 5 games
Olivet 4 games
Tri-State 6 games

The extra week added to the season without additional games or practices, I'm sure made scheduleing even more difficult than usual.

I agree that I wouldn't want a 10 day layoff going into a game with Albion, but at least  Albion faces the same dilema.

Just my opinion.  But I only think it's a benefit for Calvin this season because some of the players were struggling, and I think they need a chance to re-group themselves.

Regrouping can help, true.  I just see that as a very long layoff to expect any kind of sudden improvement.  Especially since a good chunk of it I assume was spent away from each other for Christmas.

Like I said, I think the extra week in the season left some tough gaps for teams to fill, Calvin's seems to be one of the extreme examples.  There are some NESCAC and UAA teams with even longer gaps.

Its uncharted territory for most everyone.

Griffen has been struggling since his ankle injury early in the year--he just never looked 100%, this layoff may help him to get completely healthy.
