KVS sounds like he is disappointed with the teams' focus and lack of discipline on offense and defense.  Keene St played fundamentally better.

Also says Katt is probably doubtful for tomorrow but should be back for conference play.

In the opener in Holland

Mt Vernon Nazarene 82 Purdue North-Central 74

Big comeback by MVNU, outrebounded by 18 and still won.  Ben Falkenberg hits 8-17 3's, if they keep that record, its a DeVos Fieldhouse record.  Finishes with 29 points, just 1 point off the Fieldhouse record.

MVNU moves to 10-0

Halftime

Hope 50 Grace Bible 18......... better than expected.  24-3 run to start the the game.  GB hits 1 basket in the first 10 minutes and had 13 turnovers.

Starters have played well, netting 29 points on 13-19 shooting.  As a team 63% to GB's 28%

Klein 8, Vanderheide 7, Bowser with 6 and quite a flurry of activity for a couple minutes.  Everyone's played for Hope.

sac

Hope 97 Grace Bible 48

VanSolkema 15, Klein 13 Bowser 11, Canan 10

Starters scored 47 in very limited minutes, but shot 20-31 as a group.  DVS with a big start to the second half.  All 5 starters hit 3's and 7 players overall.  Hope shot 60% overall, and after starting 0-6 from 3, finished at 10-24.

Tommorrow night should be a very good test with unbeaten Mt. Vernon Nazarene.

32-23 Wittenberg over Olivet at half

Witt 71 Olivet 58.......Olivet scored 8 in a row to get within 6 with about 3 minutes to go and didn't score again.  In fact neither scored in the final 1:44.  One McClary had 14 the other 11.

Well the score was 97-48, but it really wasn't that close.  Great night of shooting for Hope, against very little defense.  I guess I expected more from a Grace Bible team that beat Cornerstone (even if CS was short-handed).  From what I saw tonight, there are typically a few MIAA JV teams that could have won.

And speaking of teams with long layoffs, Mt. Vernon Nazarene was coming off a 20 day layoff (in part due to a canceled game), and it showed in the first half.  Great shooting in the second half won the game for them.  I would expect that stamina may be a problem for several MVN players against Hope tomorrow as the starting guards for MVN both played 40 minutes tonight.

One other interesting note - at several points in the first game tonight, there were 8 players on the floor (4 from each team) who had double digit points.  I don't think I've ever seen that before.

realist

No real surprises in Holland.  It does sound like Hope could have their hands full if MVN shooters get hot.
I really thought Calvin would come out and do better in their matchup.  Nice to see Mantel get untracked, but seems Calvin just can't get everything to click right this year.

Exciting first half to listen to, lots of up and down the floor action

Hope 52 MVNU 44

Hope led by as many as 16, they've had a couple stretches with 5 or 6 misses in a row as well.

Klein 15, Reimink 9, Bowser 6 off the bench, overall Hope's gaurds are struggling from the floor 1-11.  They've done a decent job on Falkenberg for MVNU, limiting him to 8, but was silent for much of the half.

Conner Gregg leads MVNU with 16 and 8-8 from the floor, he and Klein are having a field day, Ryan is 6-6 from the floor.

58% for MVNU and 52% for Hope, VanderHeide sat most of the first half with foul trouble.
