One more year and then we will be in our new facility. For fans coming to Olivet, I encourage you to take a drive at the south end of campus to see the progress on the new facility. As well, the construction company has set-up a live camera and it can be seen at; http://www.olivetcollege.edu/construction/events_center/live_image.htm.

Some thoughts from the game:

*  First of all, it was ***GREAT*** to see retired Coach Russ DeVette. Aided by a walker, I thought he looked great! Here's HOPEing that things continue to go well for Coach DeVette and his health recovery.

*  What was with the black socks wore by the Mt V team?

*  Mt. V's 13 turnovers for the first half and 19 total were no doubt a part of their struggle with the game. Was it the enviroment? Was it Hope's D? Was it....?  Not sure.  But it just seemed like an obvious factor in the first half of the game.

*  At 3:07 left in the first half all of the judges scores were "10's" for Ty Tanis as he threw his body on the floor to save the ball. GREAT EFFORT TY!

*  #45 for Mt. V was definitely NOT going for the "Mr. Congeniality" award during the game!!!!  A couple of opportunities to help a player up and then a warning from the officials on an inbound play. Must have gotten coal in his stocking and he just wasn't a happy camper.

*  Another stat to look at: Ty Tanis 1 for 6 and 1 for 5 (3's) and 5 for 6 (FT's).  On defense he still is looking good, but like the weather, has been a bit chilly lately. Keep on pluggin Ty, it will come!

*  Another stat to look at: Ryan Klein 8 for 12, 3 for 4 (3's), 1 for 2 (FT's), and 6 Rebounds. Congratulations to Ryan on a good game and good weekend and being honored for the MVP of the Tournament!

*  Mt. V had a very good, solid team. Their depth may keep them out of some games later in the season, as some of the players who played many minutes of the game showed some tiredness late in the game.  Too bad they didn't have a better following to help cheer on their team.

*  Marcus Vanderheide - A true spark plug - scoring the first 5 and 6 (I think!) points in beginning of the game and the start of the 2nd half for Hope. He came out focused and ready to play! If only those nasty fouls wouldn't have been called!!!

Jesse Reimink.....7 steals, many, many deflections...every big rebound or gets his hand on it.    If he doesnt go 3/6 from the line and about the same from 1' away, he is the MVP.  (he may be the team MVP anyway from what I have seen this year.)

Kelvin Carter....NEVER turns the ball over!  (not to mention a great defender)  There plenty of offense from other people.....DVS is going to see less and less PT

Calvin will be a tough matchup for Hope.....decent big men (6'8")  will hurt them.

Kelvin is indeed a great player, but he's still young.  DVS, as a senior, will see plenty of playing time.

Decent big men will challenge, not hurt, Hope.  Elmhurst and AQ were good challenges, and Hope has learned from them.  Calvin has big men.  As to how decent they are, that remains to be seen.  They have potential, and will no doubt rise to the Jan. 26th occasion.   ;)

I haven't had a chance to swing through Olivet in awhile to see the construction..........now I fully undertand where this new gym is going to be, I was really wondering where the heck they would build the thing.

Alma College Director of Athletics John Leister

I had no idea the former MSU QB was the AD and apparently offensive coordinator for the football team at Alma.  8)

Leister also coached baseball. 2007 season was his last year.

whether a player ais a senior, junior, or frosh is irrelevant.  The player(s) that are playing well should be on the floor.  There were 2 GLARING "coincidences" in Hope's 2 losses. DVS played poorly in both, and the usage of their bench was drastically shortened.  Sometimes the confortable/reliable route isn't always the best route.

Okay, buddy, breathe deep.  Evidently this issue bothers you a great deal.  While there have been moments when DVS has come up short, there have also been moments when Carter's inexperience has shown.  I do not disagree that a player's class (sr. vs. frosh.) should not be the sole determiner as to whether or not they are the one seeing PT.  I just don't think that it's entirely accurate to think that Carter will be taking more and more of DVS's time.  Perhaps this is where we will have to agree to disagree.

truthfully, the issue doesn't bother me at all.  My comments were in response to a prior post (that was not mine)something to the effect of....."DVS, as a senior, will see plenty of time".  If anyone is not playing well or up to his potential, their time should be reduced, if only for that 1 game, IF someone is playing better.  Especially if the substitution patterns are as rigid as they are in some programs.  This is not a DVS situation, the problem lies within the groups of people who feel their is an owed right to PT because they have been in the program longer.  It happens in every sport at all levels.  If you are playing to win, you play the best players at that time.

Just a little light humor, but if you look at this website at night, it looks like you're viewing a space landing on the moon.   ;D   Guess I had better look at it during the daytime!!   ;D

And to keep the humor rolling, I was watching the UofM (as in Meeechigan) vs. Wisconsin game the other night and the commonpotator's comment went something like this, "The weak part of Michigan's game is their defensive rebounding." Now that was humorous!!!  The WEAK PART.... (And being a Michigan fan, the following pains me to say this, but...) the weak part of their program this year is suiting up each game!!!  But... a new coach, a new system, PATIENCE is a must!

Has the ability to be a great defender. I don't think he's there yet.

Massey's strength of schedule looks like this for the MIAA

1. Kalamazoo-----#19
2. Hope------------#35
3. Tri-State--------#40
4. Calvin-----------#42
5. Albion-----------#65
6. Olivet------------#144
7. Adrian-----------#201
8. Alma-------------#323

Surely Kzoo will drop siginificantly, their next 2 games are against 1-15 Marygrove, and soon to be 0-9 Alma.

Alma's 0-8 record vs a schedule ranked#323 does not bode well.

There are 404 teams in D3, so seven of the league's schools played schedules in the top half.  I can't remember, (and can't find it) but I think thats a significant improvement on last season.
