Olivet 80 Anderson 71

The McClary brothers dropped in 21 and 14 for 35 of the Comets points.  This is one of the oddest box scores I've seen in a while (since saturday).  Anderson took 87 shots with 27 offensive rebounds.  Anderson shot 29% and only lost by 9, Olivet shot 54% and only won by 9.

On top of that a severe thunderstorm moved through the area just after the conclusion of the game.  ???

And that concludes the non-conference season for the MIAA at 34-44, better than last year but a long way from where the league needs to be.

Does anyone out there know what ever happened to Dex Battista?

He was on Wooster's roster in 2006-2007, but is not on the current 2007-2008 roster.

Any chance he arrives in an orange and blue uniform?

I believe he transferred to GVSU and is sitting out a year.

Although I couldn't find anything online to confirm that report I did check Dex's Facebook account and it lists him as a GVSU student so I think al is right on this one.

I assume Battista left Wooster for Grand Valley for reasons other than playing time. If he's leaving a D3 program (even a traditionally strong one like Wooster) for the No. 2 ranked team in D2 and expects to get more playing time, well . . . .

Tommorrow nights Hope/Albion game sets up as the first key matchup of the 08 MIAA campaign.  Hope's won 5 of the last 6 in the series and 4 in a row.

Last year's two games Hope won by 36 and 7, the first being the obvious anomoly in what has generally been a pretty closely contested series of games for the better part of a decade.  However, in the last 10 meetings only 2 of the games has been decided by single digits.  The closest being last seasons series finally with Hope wining by 7 at Albion.  In the previous 15 to those 10, only 2 were double digit wins.........amazing how this series has turned.

The first time around in Holland the Britons looked completely out of their element and overmatched.  They met a Hope team that we latter found out was on a mission to win the MIAA.  I don't expect to ever see that Albion team again.

Down at Albion later in the year, it was a Monday game before a Wednesday night showdown with Calvin.  The Britons really ran Hope around the gym at both ends of the floor and if they'd made more shots here and there it would have been a tighter game or a game they win.  Hope led by 10 with 5 to go and 10 with 1 to go but it was the most uncomfortable 10 point Hope lead I can recall.

Last year Albion struggled with defense, setting all kinds of team high water marks for points allowed and FG% allowed in the years I've followed the MIAA.  This year the Britons seemed to have returned to their old defensive ways allowing just 64 points and 39% shooting.  Hope's no slouch on that end of floor either allowing just 64.6 points and 41% shooting.

In fact the two teams are also currently #1 and #2 in offense and are 1, 2 or 3 in just about every stat category.  This looks to be a terrific matchup any way you slice it.  Each has had its cupcake wins

Albion 85 Rochester 40, Albion 107 Marygrove 44
Hope 100 Marygrove 55, Hope 97 Grace Bible 48

....quality wins

Albion over John Carroll, Spring Arbor
Hope over Aquinas, Wheaton, Mt Vernon Nazarene

....and gut wrenching losses.

Hillsdale 77 Albion 74 OT, Madonna 86 Albion 80
Aquinas 78 Hope 69 OT, Elmhurst 74 Hope 71

Both teams spread the wealth on the offensvie end and have pretty deep contributing benches.  Everything tells me this is going to be a good game between two good teams.   I think both teams still have questions to answer,  I like Hope but only because its at home.

Sac:  "FDF, would you say we have a plethora of livestat games today?"
FDF:  " Si, yes we have a plethora"
Sac:  " What is a plethora"
FDF:  "que?"
Sac:  "Well you told me we have a plethora and I would just like to know if you know what a plethora is, because I would not like to think that a person would tell someone they have a plethora and find out that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora"
FDF:  "Forgive me, know that I, FDF, do not have your superior intellect and education, but could it be you are angry at something else and are looking to take it out on me?"
