I had to miss the Calvin game at Alma today to attend a funeral.  I noticed that Brent Schuster was not in the box score for the second game in a row and I do not even recall him being on the bench on Wednesday. Does anyone know anything?

Reading about Glenn's 600th today and looking at winning percentage, I'm even more impressed.  Here are the members of the 600+ club in the history of DIII.

Jim Smith, St. John's, 679-468 (.592)
Dennie Bridges, Illinois Wesleyan, 666-320 (.675)
Tom Murphy, Hamilton/SUNYIT, 635-286 (.689)
Dick Reynolds, Otterbein, 614-351 (.636)
Glenn Van Wieren, Hope, 600-201 (.749)

He may not have played, but he was sitting on the bench, and even got called for a foul when he wasn't playing!  The ref got the number wrong, and I believe I heard Douggie Fresh mention that Schuster was on the bench, before the error was corrected and the correct number was given (Zoerhof's).  No idea why he did not play.

Facts don't lie, so even this non-Hope fan must pause to offer congratulations to GVW for his milestone achievement and a solid career coaching record of 600-201-0.  Well done!

Alright, enough of the GVW love fest this room has turned into.  (Anyone else almost puke when they logged on MIAA.org today?)

Let's talk about why it's a great day to be a Hornet.

Kzoo 94  Albion 82.

A very nice crowd at the Rolla Dome took in a game that didn't include much defense.  Clancy got the Hornets going early, hitting three treys in the first 6 minutes. After going back and forth most of the first half, Albion built a 9 point lead with about 4 minutes to go. However, K battled back to get within a bucket at the break.

I think the turning point towards the end of the game was K got stops when the needed them.  It was Pat from the permieter and Henry down low. Henry was really unstoppable when he got the ball in the post.  Albion didn't have any answers for him.   Yancey was Albion's go to guy throughout the entire game, but I think they forgot that down the stretch.

It was great to see K execute on the offensive side of the ball. They shot 50% for the game, and had great looks at the basket.

The Rolla Dome had a great crowd yesterday.  Kudos to the students that were active throughout the game. I don't know if they consider themselves Stingers, but it was the closest thing I have seen to them in a long time.

There are 10 years worth of season archives on MIAA.org.  Albion has played 278 games including this seasons games.

Albion has allowed 90 or more points just 6 times over those 10+ seasons.

08--Kalamazoo 92-80
07--Hope  94-58
07--Illinois Wesleyan  94-80
05--Tri-State 97-102
05--Tri-State 93-109
04--Tri-State 94-108

**Keeping in mind the 3 TSU games are from when the Thunder were busy playing a variation of Grinnell's system.  Albion won all those games.

I have no idea where this stacks up compared to other D3 schools or MIAA schools but thats pretty impressive.  There aren't very many 80 point games either.

Thats a very impressive thing Kalamazoo did this weekend.

Yes - there's nothing more vomit inducing than seeing a single picture of a successful coach surrounded by loyal players after having reached a career milestone. What was the MIAA thinking?

Before my weak attempt at some Sunday night humor, I have to give my props to K-College for an impressive win.  An Albion hangover or not after the loss to Hope, that is a great W.

Now, for Stingers very apparent distaste for GVW's milestone... Coach Passage only needs 547 more wins to join him in the 600 club.  At the .400ish winning % he's clipping at, he should be there in a couple more years.

You can debate his coaching style and whatever else you'd like, but 600 wins at at %75 pace is pretty impressive.

Teams definitely know how to approach Hope, and they were VERY fortunate to hold on Saturday.  One point that hasn't been mentioned is the group towards the end who did enough to win, was the same who minutes earlier (and at the start of the 2nd half) almost gave it away.  What makes this team so good is their depth and for the 3rd time this season, almost, hope's unwillingness to keep fresh faces on the floor in the last 10 minutes bit them.

Just for the record, the Hope subs logged 62 minutes, spread out over 5 players, while the 7 Olivet subs totaled 56 minutes, including 26 minutes by one sub, Joe Kerns.

I do no know when either team's subs put in their time, but overall the Olivet starters were on the floor 6 minutes longer than the Hope starters.
