First, a belated congratulations to GVW for 600 wins.

Second, kudos to whoever called the potential Kzoo over Albion upset last Thursday. I think it was sac but I am afraid I don't remember exactly and don't want to scroll back and read 10 pages to figure it out.

Third, Hope at #6! Wow, honestly, I feel/fear its a bit high. Plus, as a rule I rather sneak around in the low teens and come up and surprise people than be at the top of the pack.

This video appeard on Sportscenter last night, not sure if its on today.  Its from Paradise, MI and Whitefish Township one of my favorite places in the State and somewhere I've made a point to visit every year at least once for several years now.  If you've been to Tahquemenon, you've likely been to Paradise.  Next time I go, I'm takeing a sack of cans.

We spent a week in Paradise one summer when we were living in Ypsilanti.

Also spent about 10 minutes in Hell, on a snowy day. :)

I called it on the MIAA pick em contest.

Sac is right, the road is going to be very tough this year all-around I have a feeling.

I think Calvin's game Wednesday night at Adrian is very important(obviously it's important, but even more important than some people may look at it).  Winning on the road in the MIAA against a pretty good team may be what Calvin needs to get them a huge momentum swing into the Game, January 26.  Calvin hasn't done so hot on the road this season so far, and Wednesday is the night to start.  Go Knights!

Stinger

I think both the Olivet/Albion game and Calvin/Adrian are toss ups.  There are definite favorites tomorrow, however Olivet had a very good chance to win that game at Adrian last week.  I'm sure Albion will be very hungry after the loss in Kzoo on Saturday.  The Britons will have to play off their own emotion, though, since students are still on break, and I can't see that great of a crowd at Kresge.  I see Albion holding on for a single digit win.

I guess one would think that Calvin is a slim favorite as well. However, it's a week night road game, their farthest travel.  I really see Adrian pulling of a minor upset here.  Defending the permiter will be big for Adrian. I also see Young having a very solid game against the Knights.

I know most you Dutch fans will be disappointed, but I will not be able to get to the Dick tomorrow night.  I was looking forward to heading over there with a co-worker who's a Hope grad (yes, I do subject myself to hanging out with Hope people).

Kzoo is flying high after their 5th straight win. A great win against Albion has their confidence brimming.  BUT, we all know how the Hornets have historically performed in Holland.  They are playing the 6th ranked team in the country. Hope is loaded with talent. Hell, half of Hope's JV team could be starting on most DIII teams across the country.  K hasn't won at Hope since 1998.  This one is stacked up pretty heavily against the Hornets.

There's a time and a place for everything.  The Hornets are due.

According to one source close to the team, all of them turned down scholarship offers to play for the Dutch. ;)

One of the things that stood out in person at the Olivet game was how hard the Comets crashed the glass, especially on the offensive end.  For large portions of the game it looked like Hope was getting killed on the boards.

Yet the boxscore has the rebounding 37-36 to Olivet with both teams getting almost an equal number of offensive boards 15-12.  Either Hope turned it around in the 2nd half which went unnoticed or the rebounding edge to Olivet was nowhere near as bad as it seemed in person.  I'm going to assume since Olivet shot 60% there weren't many offensive boards for the Comets in the 2nd half.

That was the first thing that surprised me when I saw the boxscore, almost as much as the relatively small number of turnovers from Wed's first half with Albion, where both teams looked like they had 15 turnovers apiece.  Strange.

Also something that wasn't mentioned, this was only Hope's 2nd road game of the season on their opponents floor.  Cornerstone was the other and that could hardly be called a hostile place.  Olivet wasn't either but it was tougher than it usually is.  I think the road in the MIAA is just going to be tough.

I was curious, so I looked up the offensive rebounds. Each team had eight in the first half. In the second half, Olivet had six, while the Dutchmen had five. However, overall, the Comets out-rebounded Hope, 21-12 in the second half.

That's right - playing at Hope is so awesome, guys (and gals) are now passing up scholarships to play JV basketball at Hope.  In fact, due to a little known loop hole in the NCAA rules, Lebron James is considering using his unused eligibility to become a Flying Dutchman, despite the fact that he may not crack the starting line-up for at least a year.   :o

I'll have to get text-message updates as I won't be able to follow the game online. I am looking forward to being back in the bleachers for Saturday's game, however.

I went to a Landmark Conference game between CUA and Drew this past weekend. Suffice it to say that I haven't see an uglier display of shooting since the last time I played noon ball in the Dow. I'm hoping that wasn't typical.

QuoteLooks like Paradise will be prepared if they ever have to play at Hickory High School

Ziggy,
Hickory High School will not be borrowing the church bus to take the Huskers to Paradise anytime soon. Due to the influence of Miles Brand, the IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletic Association) adopted the NCAA classification for in region and out of region games. A game between the two schools would not cout towards the Huskers regional play-off seeding come tournament time.

HopeConvert, you must have missed the Iowa-Michigan State game the other night. Great showing by the Spartans with 18 points scored in each half.  The ugliest display of shooting I ever saw was on a hunting trip with Featherstone and The Angry Dwarf. The only animals in danger that day were the ones completely hidden as their aim was just a bit off that weekend.

Chip Mundy with the Jackson Citizen Patriot broke an interesting piece in his article this morning. Because of the students still on break at Albion, the heat in all buildings on campus will still be shut off for the game against Olivet on Wed night. Word from Coach Turner and Coach May is the Britons will be wearing long sleeves in Kresge, and the point guards have been practicing the last few days with gloves on. This could be a huge home court advantage for the Brits. All fans making the trip to Historic Kresge Gym should dress warm as well.

Stinger I love your optimism "Time and a place for everything." With the way the college football season went this year, I see the Hornets picking up a double digit win against "that school from the west."

I think Lebron's in the fold if you can arrange an extra seat for the legendary feasts that CM and FDF host for the players. ;)

Since HC still has eligibility left, neither GVW nor his 16 assistants will be able to do that anymore. Check out Pat's piece in the Daily Dose:

You've evidently never gone hunting with Dick Cheney. Probably, though, people can tell that just by looking at you.

I can enroll in my own class. I'm likely to get a decent grade. GVW knows how to get a hold of me if he ever needs a basketball version of Eddie Stanky. In the meantime, I'll rely on spectators to keep me updated.

Eddie Stanky or Eddie Gaedel?

Wow - I never thought I would see a legit reference to Eddie Gaedel on posting up.  When I was a kid I must have read "Strange but True Baseball Stories" a hundred times.
