On Jan. 17, 1998  Hope's  Dave Meuhlenberg scored 36 points on 13-14 shooting from the floor and 10-14 from the line, pulled down 9 rebounds in 41 minutes of playing time.......oh and didn't commit a single turnover.  Hope won the game 87-85 in overtime.

Also from that game, Joel Holstege had 10 assists to go with his 13 points.  Calvin's Sam Hargraves was 8-12 from 3 point range scoring 26 points.  The rest of the players in the game were 5-26 combined.  Aaron Winkle had 14, Rob Velthouse 14, Russ Iwema 11

Those 2 (Dave & Joel) graduated from Covenant Christian & now Josh Engelsma (Covenant) plays for Calvin.  Does that mean he'll excel in the Calvin/Hope games?  Possibly?  I'd look for him to be a threat.
Also I strongly believe that Derek Griffin will come out like no other and play amazing tomorrow.  He tends to do pretty well against Hope.

Speaking of players that have played big in the Rivalry. DVS was huge in the first 3 games last year, scoring 21, 23 and 18. The last two games he only had 2 and 7. (Granted in both of those games Cramer was playing as a man possessed too so that helped compensate, particularly in the NCAA). But I think Hope really needs a solid game from DVS. Maybe not 23 points but a solid effort on both ends of the floor.

I still can't believe Hope and Calvin met 5 times last year. Wow, that was like a year of stress on my life.

Great point about DVS - and I agree he needs to play well - maybe more importantly on D than scoring.  Yeay, 5 times in one year, it's no wonder I'm on stomach medicine.

Love the idea of a Hope / Calvin basketball alumni game.  While you're at it, get the women involved and do a double header.  I'm betting you could fill the DeVos quite easily (with a little advertising and the right charity).

I'm on it, I'm on it, sheesh!   ;D

(But a women's game double header is a great idea!)

Anyone interested in helping, PM me. :)

I can't view video at work, but I've seen Bo Ryan's team dance all over the Dutchmen. I can't imagine this would be any more enjoyable to watch.

I just got out of work for tomorrow so I can watch the game!  Thank goodness for busy season showing up a little late this year!!!

Love the idea too!  I'd definitely pay to watch it.  It'd be amazing!  With talent like Holstege, Meulenberg, VanHekken, Merrit, the Carlson bros, Cramer, Veenstra, Winkle, Krosschell, Karsten, Prins, Aultman, just to name a couple options, depending on far to go back.  PRICELESS to watch that!!

I looked for it and can't seem to find it anywhere....does anyone know what time the doors exactly open for the Game?  Thanks.

Edit:  Sorry if it's already been answered.

The JV game starts at 11:30, so the hunch was 11:00, but no one seems to have answered with certainty.

Wow it got quiet in here. Everyone must be furiously finishing work so you can go get in line for a good parking space.  I know I'm contemplating it...

I have folded all the shirts I can fold today.  In fact, I'm heading home right now.  See you all tomorrow!

I'm gearing up tonight with my first live ballgame since leaving Holland in '03.

I'm going to catch the Lewis and Clark/ UPS game at LC tonight at 8:00. I'll get home, go to bed and get up in the morning and drive back to Portland for our H/C party... Should be fun.

Have fun tomorrow all, and of course... GO HOPE!

I wish I could be there tomorrow. I still haven't seen a Hope/Calvin game in person since graduation in '03.
I'll be outside Philly at the game watch tomorrow afternoon.
Also, the only problem with having an alumni game is that you realize you are getting older. If i was in Michigan I would go to the game in a second...but I like to think back on the memories as they were back then....for better or worse...mostly worse.
I was there for the 1990 basket after the buzzer...sitting on the stage at the Civic.
