Calvin's last 5 trips to Tri-State have been kind of adventuresome.

2007  Tri-State 68 Calvin 58
2006  Calvin 85 Tri-State 79 OT
2005  Calvin 90 Tri-State 82
2004  Calvin 111 Tri-State 105.....did not count in MIAA standings
2003  Calvin 77 Tri-State 72.........non-conference game

Tri-State did a nice job protecting the home court last season in MIAA play at 6-1, only Hope came away from Hersey Hall victorious..........and thus far they are 2-1 at home.

Given the 56-48 win by Calvin at home, I guess we should expect this game to be pretty close.  But after Wednesday night I find that hard to believe................

However, TSU pulled off one of the all-time best turnarounds last season since Kzoo's wild week a few years ago when they beat Calvin and Albion sandwiched around a 65 point loss to Hope.

Hope 101 TSU 57

3 days latter..............TSU 68 Calvin 58

Wow, an 18 year old with a little cockiness.  Who knew, this must be the first time ever. :-\

And clearly Sac didn't let go of his at 19 or 20 either  ;)

teenwolf, you must be pretty tight with the upperclassmen because seeing the bench whoop it up after the shots would prove otherwise.  From most everything I have read and seen, a couple of the seniors should talk to one another.  I did overhear a conversation at a local eatery the other day where they ( students and athletes) were mocking tanis for never going to the postgame " get together" celebrations.  sounds like an aweful kid to me.

That can be confirmed by many.

After Wednesday night's showing, I would expect to see Tri-State take on Calvin as a team on a mission.  Coach Harmon will not stand for another defensive performance like that, and they do defend their home court well, as sac pointed out.  Calvin won by 8 when they hosted Tri-State, but Benford scored only 6 pts.  He will be in the comfort of his home court, so I'd bet he scores closer to his average.  Tri-State stands a good chance of pulling into a tie in the MIAA standings with Calvin.  If they do and Hope plays the way they can, and wins, they take a 3-game lead in the MIAA.  :o

Speaking of recruiting, anyone care to comment on Rodts and Sytsma's varsity potential for next season.  I only caught the last half of the JV game last Saturday but those two really stood out to me for Calvin.

I was just going to make a comment on Rodts.  Thanks for reminding me.  Maybe I can't say much since that was the only JV game I have seen this season, but does anyone else think that Rodts could've/should've been a varsity player this season?  He has the size and athleticism to be so it seems like, and he could be a good fit to the team as a player who can hit those 10 footers.  He has size like Zoerhoff, Katt, and Koetz in a way, but unlike them, he has a more consistent offensive game.

Maybe someone else that has been to more than just one JV game would have a better opinion on him than me.

After catching a NWC game last Friday, and hoping to catch another next week I had posted on the NWC board how I would love to see a couple of MIAA teams come out West some Christmas and play a "challenge" with the NWC.

What might something like that take? I realize it is not warm like Florida, but it is also not cold like Michigan in December. While we didn't have a huge turnout (30 at the satellite party), if it was Hope and Calvin, coming out there is a good CRC fan base, and several hundred Hope alumni in the PNW...

I know, just a pipe dream... It would probably be easier for me just to fly to MI and catch some games. Last Friday really made me miss MIAA basketball.

Go Hope Beat Albion!

NWH:  You are right Calvin should have a good fan base, esp. around Lynden WA.
Over the years Calvin has had a few players from WA.  I recall a Douma from the 60's, and it seems like 1 or 2 since then.  Not to mention Lodewyk from B.C. on the 92 Championship team.
Speaking of Lodewyk his last play for Calvin was in the finals, and he makes a breakaway dunk, as time is running out, with Eddie D. yelling NO, NO, NO.  Crazy, egotistical 22 year old college bball player. ;D  What was he thinking?  :)  I only add that to point out what some players do today isn't all that different from years past.

I might be a little cocky if i went 5-6 from the floor for 15 pts as a freshman even if i was at Hope and we are all classy  ::) and Sac, i'm sure plenty of us young bucks would still hang out with ya and drink some root beer and dream of Orange and Blue :)

One thing Adrian must do to beat Olivet is box out.  The McClary brothers are too good to give second chances, and when Olivet went on runs in the first showdown between the two, more often than not, it was one of those two getting more than one bite at the apple.  If Adrian controls the boards, it controls the game, and barring something spectacular, they will win.

gk68:  A forward with decent size, and offensive ability would only screw up KVS's 3 guard strategy. :D  Sadly IMHO KVS has his mind made up on players, and once they get in his dog house (like Schuster apparently has) he has not shown much inclination to change.
