Question for those in the know...

Are we ever going to see video feed from MIAA games? I know Calvin and Hope do "TV" production, and I assume other schools may do similar things. Why not incorporate doing camera work and production at some games? There are some colleges around the country who do it for every home game... Sure would be nice.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it can't be too far away.  We did get a couple of replays on the big screen at DeVos last night - it was awesome!!

Carter had 8 points tonight and his toughest shot was the dunk.  He made a couple nice individual moves to the basket and I thought handled the point as well as he has all season.

Two of Carter's layups were of the pretty easy variety, but he did have one very impressive layup to go with the dunk. He had to go up and under a defender on the drive to the hoop and then put quite a bit of english on the shot with his right hand to get it to go down from the high glass. That one was certainly a nice shot, though I may be giving it more credit than it was due after watching so many 2 footers seem to roll over, around, and off the rim.

Wow, that is rather incredible. I realize that due to the storms the games were played on an atypical evening but its amazing that the attendance at Hope more than doubled the other three games combined. Me thinks Calvin's new arena will look very very empty with 500 fans. ;) (Really we love you guys even if many of your fans only care about 2 - 5 games a year). Out of curiosity, any chance the students were on break? Hope always has a 4 day weekend around this time of year. (I believe its this Friday after classes through Tuesday this year so its a good Saturday to be on the road anyways). Could Calvin's campus have been empty for a similar reason? Or was everyone at dance lessons? :D ;)

Yes, they are on break this weekend, but I had heard that a large number of the students don't have Friday classes, and so they left yesterday.

Sadly, it seems like the Calvin students really only care about homecoming and the Hope game nowadays, anyway.  Even if they had classes on Friday, my guess is that it wouldn't have made much difference in attendance, maybe 100 or so at most.  Doug E Fresh even commented during the broadcast last night "Boy, it's quiet in here tonight" or something to that effect.

Just remember that Hope doesn't even have the bandwidth to host their own internet radio feed.  I'm just not sure that the DUTCH  will be willing to PAY to have someone like Yahoo! (their current internet radio host) to do the video...  It would be amazing to see, but I just don't see them even thinking about it anytime soon...

Does anyone know how Kzoo's student section is this year??? I remember 2 years ago they were pretty good/rowdy! It is always fun to see other student sections in action. Last night the Dew Crew was very light due to winter break this weekend. A lot of people headed home early (including this years 3-man) and I also heard all the excuses of oooh I have to much studying to do before I head home for break!  >:( I am just glad Hope is away tomorrow so its not 2 games in a row of barley any students.

THis is kind of nice though of only having to wait one day between games! KZOO here we come!

Sac:  Thanks for posting that link.
The scoring records Floyd Brady set are really impressive. Especially when you recall these happened before the 3 point shot, and the 35 second clock.  Even more so when you acknowledge that the teams played fewer games each year than, and no post season activity at all.  The Hope records site shows Floyd played in 23 games as a senior, and 22 as a jr. so he probably played in fewer than 90 or 91 total games.  2004 divided by 90 is 22 pt. per game.

Does anyone recall when the 3 point shot and the 35 second clock began at the college level.  Also, when did the MIAA begin tournament play among themselves?  Finally, when were the MIAA teams eligible for NCAA tournament play?

It's hit or miss these days.  There was a great crowd for the Albion game. Not so great for the Alma game last Saturday.

The 3 pointer was universally adopted in the '86-87 season. There was a 45-second from 85 until 93.  It's been 35 since (though I believe DIII adopted the 35 second shot clock a year later).   '92 and  I believe '77-78 for the last two.

I know it has come up before, but how about the Big East as well as a few others having 6 fouls... (NYTimes from 1989 :http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=950DE7D71730F93BA3575BC0A96F948260

I remember this hurting the Big East in the Tournament a bit.

Note

-----Some symetry tonight, as you know Floyd Brady passed away last weekend (nice moment of silence) and wore #32......in  Ryan Klein's absense tonight, Zach Osburn started and of course wears......#32.

Speaking of symetry, YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS...

Floyd Brady broke Hope College center Paul Benes' career scoring record of 1,741 on Feb. 3, 1968 with his patented left handed hook shot.  He ended his career with 2,004 points.

He recalled it like it was yesterday in a Holland Sentinel interview in 2005.  "One of the players gave me a pick and I came over the top of the free throw line, got a pass and before I knew it I threw it up and fortunately it went in," said Brady.  "It was memorable."

EXACTLY 40 YEARS LATER TO THE DAY, FEB. 3, 2008, THE HOPE LEGEND WAS TAKEN HOME BY HIS CREATOR.

To add to the story, I was at the game, but I have to admit I don't remember the shot.  However, I know I was there, because my girlfriend at the time and I went out after the game and GOT ENGAGED.

Both Brady's record and our marriage of 39 years are still intact!

MK:  :)  As a Calvin fan that saw Mr. Brady play I could not disagree more.  In your time at Calvin, and following the MIAA, I am sure you have seen NO ONE equal the caliber player Floyd was.
