Holstege is obviously over Phillips, but I didn't think he was in the discussion.  I figured the last ten seasons being 1999-2008.

I checked before posting and saw the D3 team had put someone in their group with a senior year of 1998, so I was within whatever their criteria was.

Perhaps a more interesting exercise for the MIAA would be to go back in history and pick the all 1990s team. Try and get a starting 5 out of that group. If Boz might be your 3rd string center, you've got quite a lineup on your hands.

Our poll is now Albion 17 Calvin 15.

Its already been documented how well the Britons have done vs Calvin the last 8 years.  Here's the last 4 regular season trips to Kresge for Calvin.  All good ones.

2007--Albion 82 Calvin 77
2006--Calvin 69 Albion 66
2005--Albion 78 Calvin 76 OT
2004--Albion 77 Calvin 71

*--Calvin did win two post-season games at Albion vs the Brits in 2005

Some good matchups tonight, with strong title and tournament seeding implications, but I have to believe this is the best and most interesting matchup of the night.

I think I'll mosey on down to Kresge to see what all the excitement is about.  I'm expecting a barn burner.

Being somewhat new to the selection process of the D3 tourney, I was wondering if I could get some insight.

What would Hope's odds of getting in, if they didn't win the MIAA, with or without another regular season loss?

I read the little blurb on the front page of d3hoops and it made me curious.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Hopester:  IMHO At this point I think Hope's chances for the NCAA tourney look rather decent.  This assumes they don't self destruct, and by that I mean losing to Adrian tonight & Calvin next Wed.  They have very good numbers, and if they should get "knocked off" in the MIAA tourney they are still a solid pick for the post season dance.  The only chance any other MIAA team has is to win the automatic qualifier bid, and that means either beating Hope or having someone else do it for you.  :)

No one has mentioned Kris Merritt as a favorite from the '90s.  He was all-MIAA the two years his teammate, Joel Holstege, was MIAA MVP.  His shot-blocking ability provided plenty of highlight footage for the 11:00 news...led the league in 97-98 with 33 in 12 MIAA games (2.75/g).  He was also among the leaders in rebounds (#5) and FT% (#6).

Good discussion on the all MIAA team for the last decade.  To be fair one almost has to go to a second, and third team.  A lot of players are so close in what they did it comes down to playing a bias or two for almost any person daring to pick.   :)  For example I pick Winkle as MVP because he was a good player, along with being a coach on the floor on a winning team.   However, if Holstege is included in the decade he makes a good MVP candidate as well.

ADY:  Good point about Bosma as only 3rd team pick at center in a 90's all decade team.

I'll stick to players I've seen (which would be only the last 4 years). The guard positions are pretty easy:

Caleb Veldhouse - Calvin
Stephen Cramer - Hope

As is the center:

Brandon Crawford - Albion

The forward positions I find difficult. No one has really stood out to me in terms of consistent play. Still, I suppose I would have to go with:

Marcus VanderHeide - Hope
Dan Aultman - Calvin (not sure if that's the right spot for him, but I think it would work).

Two players who get honorable mention: Isaac Smith from Alma, though I'm not quite sure how to evaluate him because that team was so bad, and Kyle Trewhella from Calvin, who wasn't the prettiest player to watch, but was gutty and knew how to win. I like guys who leave it all on the floor, and Kyle was one of those.

My MVP would be Cramer. Too bad we waited until the NCAA Tourney his senior year to unleash him.

You could put Andy Draayer or Kyle Trewella in there.  Draayer was not only the best 3 point shooter of all-time in the MIAA, but he was a great free throw shooter, and was a good co-leader with Trewella who led an inexperienced team to an outright miaa title their senior years.

Go NCAA! Once again they have done something wrong. Hope is 12-2 in region through February 10. Correct? Am I missing something but according to the record on D3hoops and my past recollection of all games this record is incorrect.

After seeing Adrian play last Saturday,  I predict Hope wins pretty easily tonight at Adrian as long as they come mentally prepared to play.  Hope has a large advantage over them in size, and Adrian's offense seems to be one-dimensional.  But somehow Adrian came within 4 to beating Hope in Holland earlier this season, so maybe that tells you it could be close again.

I predict the Calvin-Albion game comes down to the last possession.  Calvin's going to have to execute their fast-breaks much better than they did Saturday if they are going to win.

Yeah, I know amazing stuff.

I am not sure what this would change. It depends on what two games they've followed to include but I would think its possible the two games are the Roanoke and Carthage. That would add two quality wins and may vault Hope into the second spot.

Has someone informed Pat so he can forward this information to the NCAA?
