I'm heading to Olivet for the Hope women's game.  Be safe and enjoy a really good evening of MIAA hoops.

First Regional rankings of the year

Great Lakes Region Overall Record In-Region Record

1. Capital 18-3 17-3
2. Wooster 18-3 11-2
3. Hope 17-3 10-2
4. Ohio Wesleyan 14-6 13-4
5. Heidelberg 16-5 14-4
6. Penn State-Behrend 17-4 15-3

Go NCAA! Once again they have done something wrong. Hope is 12-2 in region through February 10. Correct? Am I missing something but according to the record on D3hoops and my past recollection of all games this record is incorrect.

Yeah, I know amazing stuff.

I am not sure what this would change. It depends on what two games they've followed to include but I would think its possible the two games are the Roanoke and Carthage. That would add two quality wins and may vault Hope into the second spot.

Has someone informed Pat so he can forward this information to the NCAA?

You did, on the blog. :)

For Hope fans, who should we be rooting for tonight in the Calvin Albion game. If we lose to Calvin (knock on wood) we would most likely be in a tiebreaker with one of these two teams. Who could we beat in a tiebreaker?
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

At current there are no tie-breakers Hope could win vs Albion or Calvin......unless we get some sort of 2 week free for all and a bunch of teams start beating each other.  As it is its very peculiar to have the conference leader holding no tie-breakers.

Shockingly, Hope loses all tie breakers. So I don't really think it matters who wins or loses the Calvin-Albion game from Hope's perspective. Hope just needs to win out and make sure none of this matters.

Interesting. By any chance could someone explain the ruling against Calvin? I would think that Hope would beat them. Same MIAA record, same teams beating them. but Hope has better overall record and better home record and better point differential. These are different tiebreaks I know of from other sports, but if anyone could give me some insight it would be appreciated.

Also I am under the assumption that if we were tied with Albion we would lose because they beat Calvin twice and they would be the best team in the conference not in the tiebreak.

One other scenario would be for Calvin to beat Albion and Hope leaving a tie between Hope and Calvin.........then we get to dust off the magic Semi-Final hosting coin. ::)

Once again, the above is according to sac who is usually right about these sorts of things. In the scenario above Hope and Calvin "Tie" on all of the tie-breakers and Hope's fate would rest on a coin toss. This occurred in 2003 when Hope lost the flip to Albion. (Where Hope ended up beating Calvin and then Albion, which was also GVW's 500th win).

And I lost the pick 'em to dren on a similar coin flip, though I never did see the coin he used...  :(

Heads, dren wins.  Tails, you lose.

Happy Calvin Guy

1st half for the Dutchmen.....only 4 players scored, and three accounted for 90% of the points.

(for Calvin, I'm not sure if anyone scored....how can you have 21 pts at half when you have 12 offensive rebounds.  The rims at Kresge must be tight tonight)

KnightSlappy

Poor shooting so far for Calvin.  Down 5 and out rebounding Albion 32-17

Hopester

Thanks everybody for the insight on the tiebreakers, sorry I didn't see the posts earlier.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Hopester

Looks like it will be an amazing finish at Kresge. Adrian also hanging in there against Hope.

Mocini hits a 3 with :01 on the clock to beat Calvin 56-55.

D.J. Mocini makes a buzzer beating three to win the game for the Brits.  Heartbreaking loss for Calvin as they just couldn't shoot well enough to win.  You could hear the disappointment in Vande Streek's voice in the post game show.  I am certain this won't be the last time these two teams meet this year.
