No love on the shots this half... CLANK!!!!

Before Jesse's two 3's in the last few minutes Hope had gone 0-7 from beyond the arc in the second half! Bad start to the half but things to have settled back down.

Veldhouse is having a great second half! Maybe too little to late though.

Yup!  One could hardly expect the numbers in the 2nd half to be as good as the first.  I really expected by now to see GVW giving some of his bench a chance to get some minutes.

Have I missed Sharples or Bowser in the game? They haven't made the box score but have they logged any minutes?

Seems like this would have been a great opportunity to get them some minutes.

That was my point.  I have not heard their names called.
Even KVS is giving his bench some minutes.

I agree. I'll be interested to hear from some of the posters if there may be some reason for the short bench tonight when it really wasn't a necessary part of winning in the second half. But I can't argue with the results!

I'm glad the seniors get a nice standing ovation as they leave.

Hey, maybe there's a silver lining somewhere:

Calvin-59

Hope – 35

(Tonight's score minus the points of the seniors from both teams)

Good grief.

What was the score of the JV game?

Calvin 59
Hope 76
Final

Calvin wins the second half by 11 points. Maybe there is something to draw from that but I think part of it was Hope was a bit lackadaisical after getting such a big lead.

Good win for Hope, and the results kind of say a lot about Calvin.  Hard to win when only 3 guys score in the first 30+ minutes, and then only 6 points from 10 other players seeeing time.
Predictable, predictable, predictable. >:(

No doubt, but Calvin also has to do a better job stopping the 3s. Maybe no one could have stopped Hope the way they were shooting-- it almost seemed like the game was over in the first 6 minutes. As well as VanderHeide did in the first game against Calvin, at least he was only scoring 2 points per possession.....

I'm not surprised by Reimink's night - I thought he was due for a big game - but never, never would I have thought that Griffin and Smith would combine for ZERO points. What happened?

I had class tonight and missed everything. Can't wait to read the reports from those who were there.

The Dutchman played an amazing first half of basketball tonight, and proved why they are ranked number 3 in the country. DVS and Reimink got it started as they nailed 4 threes in the first four shots for the Dutchman, causing KVS to call two early timeouts. They continued to shoot lights out in the first half cruising to a 50-22 halftime lead... lead by Reimink 19 first half points. The Knights came out of the half pretty well with Mantel and Veldhouse leading the charge, as they brought the lead down to 16 with 12 minutes left. Then Reimink showed up again draining two more threes to push back the lead and stop the run. Calvin would never be close again, as the Dutchman cruise to a 76-59 victory.

Notes:
Kelvin Carter suited up, but did not play.

Bosch played very well, solid 10 minutes from him off the bench, the Knights couldn't stop his quickness.

Tanis played very solid defense in his 12 minutes as he was either guarding Smith or Griffin in that time

Griffin and Smith combined for 0?!?! points. Great defense to shut down those two. Especially after Griffins great game against K.

1 win at Tri-State and we are home for the tourney. Let's go Dutch finish the season strong.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Great defense, by Reimink Wolfe DVS and Tanis. Also Foul trouble had a lot to do with it. Smith sat a few minutes in the first half, and Griffin was plagued in the second half.

One more thing I want to say about the game, is that Hope looked like more of a team. They were communicating well, picking each other up. They appeared to have a much better chemistry with each other than Calvin did. Often passes from players would often be in the wrong spot, they weren't helping out on defense. It just didn't look like it did last time we played Calvin. I don't know if they got demoralized early, or what. It just wasn't all together for Calvin.

After today's earlier discussion about needing to have folks other than Wolfe and Vanderheide contribute to the scoring, I looked up at the scoreboard with 6+ minutes gone tonight and we had something like 22 or 23 points and Wolfe and MVH were the only ones without a piece of that. Tonight's game felt like the reverse of the conference tournament 3 years ago when Calvin dropped Hope in the semis at Albion. When the favored team is making their 3 pointers at a pace like that, it just isn't going to happen for the underdog.

If you had told me Veldhouse for 23 points before the game, I would have been worried. But I would have felt very good about Hope's chances hearing either Reimink for 25 or Griffin for goose-egg, so fortunately those two items more than offset the first one.

One thing Calvin fans can be happy to hear is no other team could have caused nearly as much nervousness in the sea of orange. If any other opponent were out there, no Hope fan would have been worried at any time in the last 25 minutes of the game. Being The Game as it were, everyone wasn't quite secure until 4 or 5 minutes left. It was mentioned earlier that Glenn waited awfully long to really empty the bench, but the second half did feel at points that a couple bad minutes could get the lead to single digits and suddenly cause a competitive game to break out. It seems like things like that just happen when those teams are near each other.
