Rules for the tournament picks contest:

Make one, and only one post with your picks (known as the Dark Spartan rule <IMG SRC="http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> )

Predict the four winners of the Wed. games, the two winners on Friday, and the champion.  Also include the margin of victory in the championship game (used as a tie-breaker).

All picks must be posted by 6:00pm on Wednesday - no exceptions.

Winner will be determined by highest number of correct picks for the 7 games - with the tie-breaker if necessary

Looking forward to another MIAA tournament.  Unfortunately, I'll be unable to watch the grudge match between Adrian and Tri State this Wednesday, as I'll be glued to a poker table in Vegas for the week.  But hopefully I'll see everyone at the MIAA semis and finals later in the week.  Best of luck to everyone in the tournament.
Put a sawback on Alma to beat the spread on Wednesday, willya?

Hope OCSID doesn't mind if I share this info..........

The last time Olivet beat Calvin was Jan. 20, 1999 ... a 74-73 win at the Upton Center ...

.............. today was the last game at the Upton Center.

...and Wednesday will be the last game at the Knollcrest Fieldhouse....

I knew we were in trouble when I clicked on the Olivet/Calvin livestats, and under Calvin they have a picture of an orange anchor?   ???
Listening to the game it just sounds like Calvin has quit.  No excuses.

Your browser must be not getting the latest image file ... I uploaded and on my browser, there is the Calvin logo.

Thanks for the info.  My browser problems seem simple compared to the ones the Knights had with the Comets. :D

Congrats to Hope on winning the MIAA.  13-1 is a great season.
I think Calvin will recover sufficently to handle Olivet on Wed., but what they might face on Fri, and then Sat is going to take a herculean effort.

Calvin was down by a few when Koetsier goes out......lose by 17

This is not coincidence

I understand the point you are trying to make, but even if that injury had not occured one has a hard time making Calvin the winner.  You shouldn't spot another team 20 rebounds, and a healthy Koetsier would not make the difference.  Sad to say, but even the coach admits Calvin's heart just didn't seem to be in that game. :(

I agree 100%.  Doug, and KVS made that statment yesterday in the post game interview.  If the team that played Wash U shows up just about anything is possible.  The Rivalry part 3 is a very distinct possiblity.

I am prepared to be smited for this but so be it. Its circumstances like above why I don't like conference tournaments where the winner gets the automatic bid to the NCAA tourney. If you still want to play a tourney, fine, but in my opinion the regular season winner deserves the automatic bid. In cases where there is a tie at the conclusion of the regular season then maybe you allow the conference tourney winner the automatic bid.

But while I agree with wiz and realist that Calvin certainly has the talent to win the MIAA tourney their effort and results over the course of the conference season to me represent a team that does not deserve an automatic bid to the tourney. (I'm rather confident Hope has a Pool C bid locked up so this isn't an argument for Hope. In years past Hope would not have deserved the automatic bid after bad conference seasons, as would have been the case had they pulled together in the 2005 MIAA tourney). I just have issues with a mediocre to bad team (see John Jay at 13-15 getting the first A bid this year to the D3 tourney) getting an automatic bid because they played one good weekend of basketball out of a 3.5 month season.

Someone overheard a Calvin player say, at DeVos following their loss, something to the effect of, "oh well, this game doesn't matter anyway."  Could it be that they're laying low and waiting until the tournament to put in any effort?  Or was it merely bravado trying to deny the real toll of the loss on the team?

I'd hate to think that any Calvin team would just coast through the last couple of games in the league because there wasn't enough motivation.  But it does make me wonder -- was it the motivation to prove a point w/ Wash U (Hope couldn't beat them but we can) that got them through that game?  And since then they haven't had enough motivation to "get up" for the games they should?  Curious...and I really hope that's not the case.

And as to DCHN's comments about tournaments and automatic qualifiers, amen.  I understand it is what it is, and it does make for some added excitement (and sometimes stress), but seeing a mediocre team get "in" because of a lucky game or two is hard to take.

That game was in November.  Calvin  has been spanked the past 2 games. It seems to me that they are a long way from being that team.

Dang it... I agree w/ Stinger!

All season we've heard about the team that beat Wash U. No doubt Calvin got up for that game, and why not... This team was highly regarded and beat your biggest rival just 8 months ago, but not much talk was about Wash U playing poorly.

On any day when two good teams battle someone wins, and someone loses. I'd have to think that Wash U would have won the majority of rematches from January till now. It was a good early win but I  just don't think the body of work holds up that one victory.

I agree.  The Calvin/WashU game was nearly an entire season ago.  Kind of like the cliche that freshman aren't freshman any more by the end of the season.
