- First time I've seen the official the furthest from the coach call the T, but then KVS was pointing right at him and yelling at him

Can you fill me in on the T--what were the circumstances?

- First time I've seen an official stop the game to warn a player to stop taunting the fans.  Maybe that was in the players mind when he blew that dunk.

And what happened there?  I went to the wrong Devos--all I got was the Home Show (and a pleasant evening with my wife).

The T on KVS happened right after a scrum for the ball in which a number of fouls were not called.  He had already been after the officials and this one just put him over the top.

The play stoppage occured because Derek Griffin was pointing into the Albion parents section and yelling loudly after a made 3.  In my mind it should have been a T, but the official chose to just stop the game and warn him.

CM:  Over the years we have discussed the various calls where refs. have the ability to use some discretion.  Call or no call, apparently what was being yelled was not offensive, and it may just have been payback for comments from that section.   :) :)
Sorry to hear about the Tums shortage.  I tried to warn you days ago. :D

Can anyone explain to me the tongue-lashing--complete with severe finger-wagging--DVS got from a ref last night?
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

... Calvin truly thinks they can win this game ....

oh and just for the note... we all knew this was going to happen  ;)

A quick review of the pick em contest would indicate almost the exact opposite.  Only 2 pickers are left, and they had Calvin beating Albion

CM: Shame on you for not mentioning this before.  :D  Perhaps the ref. should have t'd him. ;)

Memory's a tricky thing. I recall DVS's shot being on the short side of halfcourt, but I could very well be wrong about that.

Calvin played with passion last night, most of it emanating from Griffin, who seems determined that this weekend will not be his last weekend of basketball. I was also impressed with Mantel last night, who made a nice variety of drop steps, 7-8 footers, turnarounds and fadeaways. My guess is Hope will defend Calvin the way they have before, and Mantel and Engelsma will have their chances.

I would like to have seen more of Hope's bench last night after they got up 15 in the second half. As others have noted, great move to put Klein on Young, but he sure expended a lot of energy in the process.

The key for Hope tonight is not to come out flat. If Calvin gets up early, Hope will find they're tougher to come back against than Alma or Adrian. The key for Hope the last couple of years has been getting out to an early lead. If Calvin gets up early, it'll do much for their confidence, and Hope could get frustrated. I doubt we'll see Hope jump on the Knights as they did last time, but they can't let Calvin get away from the early.

Key for Calvin: Griffin and Veltema need to hit some 3's for them, and they have to play tighter D. Key for Hope: defending the perimeter and rotating the defense should Smith or Veldhouse beat his man off the dribble. Adrian did a good job in the first half last night swinging the ball to the open spot after DVS was beaten off the dribble into the lane. I expect Wolfe to be big for Hope tonight.

(By the way, I'll be sitting in enemy territory tonight. Pray for me.)

There was a comment on another message board about this but no details one what happened.  The posters didn't say good things about DVS.

I was able to get tickets rather easily this morning at Calvin's box office.  Bought pretty decent reserved seats.  I arrived at about 8:30 AM and was first in line.  I honestly expected more people there.  In the past, I've been behind 10-15 people at that time.

If that says anything, there will be plenty of tickets for walk ups tonight.

You can't patrol all the borders. Put a hand in Jesse's face, there's likely to be a handless face somewhere.

While I'm nervous about tonight's game, and do like the resourcefulness of this Hope team. They have a way of pulling out games, and seem to have very good chemistry.

I think the key for both teams tonight will be to guard the perimeter well.  We all know how automatic Wolf and Remink are when they have a wide-open look for the 3.

Will Calvin be able to limit the amount of turnovers this game?  Will the Knights know what to do if Hope is pressuring their guards at half-court?

If the game is close at the end, at least you Hope fans know you'll be going to the NCAA tourney anyways.  Knight fans such as me know that this game pretty much defines our season, and I don't know if I'll be able to  handle  a close game at the end!  Have a safe trip, everyone!

From the person I talked to in Hope's ticket office: Calvin will be returning unsold tickets early this afternoon. Hope is expecting to sell those, as well as concourse "seating." The expectation is the game will be SRO. So, there might be some walk-up tickets available, but I'd move early. Tickets can be bought over the phone at 395-7890.
