realist - yeah, your right - kind of like military intelligence

As the great poet Dave Mustaine once said: "military-intelligence, two words combined that can't make sense"
"You can say 'no,' and I can say 'yes,' and my word has THREE letters."

I REALLY doubt the women would host....Howard Payne is what the NCAA views as the number one team in the country...far as I can tell.
Same Sectional as Hope.
I undestand a map comes into play also :)

There's no way the NCAA sends three teams to Texas.

Guess I didn't look at the map close enough.
But since it's an even year wouldn't the men have the "right" to host? Then again, that "possible" sectional of Hope/Centre/UW-Whitewater/Occidental is stacked.

scottiedawg

The men only have the "right" for the first two rounds.  Women get the "right for the sectionals.

dothedew

you are right again....I will -K myself.

I'll return to my world of reading...instead of typing.

thanks :)

Don't put anything past the NCAA.  In 00 D3 #1 Calvin hosted Franklin the regional weekend.  The sectional they hosted included  #3 Wooster, #4  Mc Murry, and Maysville which beat the D3 #2 to get there.  A stacked deck is nothing new.   :)

So if the men have a bye, why aren't the women hosting?  Really doesn't make sense to me, unless the NCAA is trying ot keep the Hope women on the road since the finals are at the DeVos.

I see what you're saying, but I'm sure that the selection committee looked at giving Hope a buy in the first round as a gift. The men basically get 1 home game no matter how long they stay in, while the women will get all but 2 games at home.

Obviously there are a few things that have to happen, but I didn't want to complicate it needlessly :)

Key thing is getting those home games.  Sooner or later you are going to have to play, and beat some top rated teams. :)
Absolutely right. There's no point worrying about the schedule. Heck - let them worry about us.

Well, the second round is at Hope, so I would guess that would interfere with the second round women's games.

Assuming no upsets it would stand at Whitewater Centre Occidental and Hope. No obvious geographic placement there.

I would think Whitewater is the obvious geographic choice.  Also, if the women are around for the second weekend, by NCAA rules, they have priority over the men for hosting sectionals.  Who knows though, perhaps the NCAA will be stupid and prevent the women from hosting because they are hosting the final four.

It's not an obvious one, thought it might be the most likely one.

As to the bye, the Dutchman in me regrets the lost revenue, and the competitor in me wonders if a tune-up game before the winner of the Capital/Bethany game might not be preferable.

Interesting to note .... Centre, UW Whitewater are also in our bracket. Which means 3 of the top 4 teams in the country are in the same sectional. I know D3hoops poll means nothing towards this, but wow. Seems pretty brutal. It will be interesting to see where the third and fourth rounds are held. Assuming no upsets it would stand at Whitewater Centre Occidental and Hope. No obvious geographic placement there.

Last year's sectional pairings had Augustana, WashingtonU, Stevens Point and Hope on track to meet.  Four of the top 10 on the D3hoops.com poll.

So this really isn't that unusual.

About time you weighed in here, Sac!  :)   We're all looking to you for some wisdom and encouragement...   ;D

HC:  Personally I am not all that convinced the bye really helps a team.  In 00 Calvin had the bye, and got taken down to the wire by Franklin.  It took one of those last second buzzer beater shots for the win.  Not sure how coaches, and players feel about it, but as a fan the long layoff doesn't seem to do teams any good. :)

If Hope's season ends the same way Calvin's did in 2000, that'd be OK with me.  :D ;) :D

Looking at the bracket now (I said this with only our sectional out there) I feel like the power teams are fairly well distributed.

I would hate to be going to Augustana this weekend. Auggie, Aurora, Wash U. and Wooster. Two final four teams going there with one of the better pool B teams. That will eliminate a couple national championship contenders in the first weekend.

It is only an extra day, and I think it keeps the team fresh. It allows us to sit back and watch our opponents play. We get more time to prepare for them, and don't have to have our starters play 30 minutes the night before.
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

The men's committee seemed to take pointers from the women on how to move teams around.  I wouldn't have ever guessed Wooster traveling to Augustana or that Hope would be in a bracket with 3 west coast teams.  The Southern teams are really spread out.

I would like to know how a team gets sent on the road to a team in its own region ranked lower in the last poll.  The women should be hosting and per their own rules could do so.

Lets go beat 'em
