Saturday is a lousy day for me this week; don't think I can drive up regardless, but a half-hour here or there could make the difference.  When will we know what time the game starts?

Monsoon,

According to the end of the d3hoops selection show, all games on Saturday are 7:30pm for the timezone in which the game is played.

Hope this helps you plan.

I just want to respond quickly to sac's All-MIAA selections.  I really applaud most of the picks, but take one major issue.  If in fact sac's list is the way it shakes out (which is likely), and Ian Weber does not at least make second team, I'm probably going to fistfight somebody.

Here's a guy who averages 8.8 ppg and 10.6 rebounds per game.  He's got the second best field goal percentage in the league, and matched up well with pretty much every other big guy in the league, including everyone's MVP Marcus Vanderheide.  In my obviously biased opinion, he was, at very worst, the third best big guy in the league, which would land him solidly in the second team.

I admit, that was a tough one for me, I just ran out of spots.  I think all of the other guys I had ahead of him were just more versatile.  If I had to guess the coaches will probably fit him in there over Reimink or Klein.

All MIAA team;

Turner definitely should get Coach of the year.
MVH is MVP.   Wolfe without MVH doesn't get the numbers.
Bulldogalum does make a good point on Weber.  It is a shame not to see him make the 2nd unit, but I am not sure who to pull off to make room.

Just realized I didn't do a fan poll this year, sorry.  So here's my crack at an All-MIAA team.

MVP---I've struggled with this all year, but I'm giving my MVP's to Marcus Vanderheide and Tyler Wolfe from Hope.  They've been great all year.   I could make a case for either, its not unprecedented to share between teamates (89-Bill Sall, Dan Davis).  Maybe if Tyler Wolfe had a "So Krispy" dance video, it would have put him over the top.

First Team
Marcus Vanderheide, Sr. Hope
Tyler Wolfe, Sr. Hope
Caleb Veldhouse, Jr. Calvin
Derek Griffin, Sr. Calvin
Desmond Young, Jr. Adrian
Tony Benford, Jr. Tri-State
Brandon McClary, Jr. Olivet
Mat Kellogg, Sr. Kalamazoo

Second Team
Derek VanSolkema, Sr. Hope
Brandon Way, Sr. Olivet
Drew Yancey, Jr. Albion
Henry McCain, Jr. Kalamazoo
Matt Brown, Jr. Alma
Jesse Reimink, Jr. Hope
John Mantel, So. Calvin
Ryan Klein, Sr. Hope

My first team might be short on guards, rebounding really seemed to influence some picks for me.

All 5 Hope starters make it which I don't think is too far fetched given their season.  I would have like to find a spot for Redditt or Michael McClary but there's plenty of time for those guys.  They both had great seasons.  The leagues guards didn't really stand out this year, perhaps a Dustin Smith, or Bill Leising or DJ Mocini deserved some thoughts, but they just didn't have the raw numbers to justify replacing anyone on the 2nd team.

Freshman of the Year
Jordan Redditt, Alma........promising young player who devolped into a pretty good scorer for the Scots.

Coach of the Year
Mike Turner, Albion.......it just has to be, from 10-15 a year ago to 19-6 with basically the same players and nearly pulled off an MIAA Championship.  All without a single first team player by my book.

Game of the year is tough, but I think I have to go with Albion 56 Calvin 55 with Mocini's shot.  That might have cost Calvin alot given how the season played out.  I surely would have picked the OT game with Adrian/Albion had the Bulldogs pulled that one out.

Last a special award which I have no name for, but it goes to Jim Cash, Sr Albion.  Jim lost his mother in early January.  I know exactly what this kid went through and I can tell you I was in no shape to play basketball during those difficult days.  On the day my father passed away I tried to watch a game, and it just didn't feel real to me.   I can't even imagine what it was like to try and play a game.

Jim toughed it out and didn't miss a game for the Britons.  Pain is a funny thing, some days it consumes you, some days you don't notice it, but its always there.  Eventually you reach a peace about it, but you always carry it with you.  Its hell getting there but you do get there.  Maybe Jim Cash should be my MVP.

Once again, "Professor SAC" comes through with good stuff. My only change would be for the Freshman of the year. Looking at the MIAA stats, Michael McClary has shown himself to be the better overall player and will definitely be an asset to his team over the next three years.

Looking at Capital"s numbers it shows 3 players averaging double figures, and they account for 39 pts each game.  Lots of size, and it looks like the coach plays 10 or 11 guys most games.  Recalling previous matchups with OH schools they like to play a physical game.  At this point I don't see anyone, or any tendency that Hope shouldn't be able to handle.  It probably won't be easy, but advantage Hope with fresher legs at the end, and home court. :)

Key thing is getting those home games.  Sooner or later you are going to have to play, and beat some top rated teams. :)
Absolutely right. There's no point worrying about the schedule. Heck - let them worry about us.

So if the men have a bye, why aren't the women hosting?  Really doesn't make sense to me, unless the NCAA is trying ot keep the Hope women on the road since the finals are at the DeVos.

Well, the second round is at Hope, so I would guess that would interfere with the second round women's games.

Assuming no upsets it would stand at Whitewater Centre Occidental and Hope. No obvious geographic placement there.

I would think Whitewater is the obvious geographic choice.  Also, if the women are around for the second weekend, by NCAA rules, they have priority over the men for hosting sectionals.  Who knows though, perhaps the NCAA will be stupid and prevent the women from hosting because they are hosting the final four.

It's not an obvious one, thought it might be the most likely one.

As to the bye, the Dutchman in me regrets the lost revenue, and the competitor in me wonders if a tune-up game before the winner of the Capital/Bethany game might not be preferable.

The women's bracket shapes up for a Sectional down in Texas, assuming a Howard Payne win on Saturday.  That leaves DeVos open for the men to host again; Holland is just as logical, probably more so, than Whitewater.  But first things first...let's win this weekend and make sure this is a discussion worth having.

Where on Hope's site are you finding this info?  Everything I see still says "t.b.a." re: times.  The more I look at this, the more I'm talking myself into coming up (assuming I can get a ticket), but it means I need to do some things differently here that morning.

I'm not overlooking Capital, but it's fun to spectulate.
After further consideration, I agree that Hope should host sectionals over Whitewater.
It is 2752 total miles for Occidental, Hope, and Centre to travel to Whitewater.
It is 2862 total miles for Occidental, Whitewater, and Centre to travel to Hope.
Assumedly, Occidental/Whitworth will fly no matter where the sectional is; Centre would have 30 fewer miles to travel; Hope's gym seats 3000+, Whitewater's gym seats 2400.

The NCAA brackets put the highest seeds at the top, Hope's the highest seed for that Section.  If Hope wins, Hope's hosting..........but thats a ways off, lets get there first.

okay I'll quit as others have "pointed" out stuff about this situation well enough in earlier posts (as well as on the Holland Sentinel Blog).

It's impossible to take seriously anything Alan Babbit or the Sentinel prints. I could not read past the very first sentence of his blog without finding an obvious grammatical error. D3hoops posters make errors too but we don't 1) get paid to write, and 2) have editors to review our work before it goes out to the public (maybe the Sentinel doesn't either).
That's Babbitt with a second "t." Just thought you'd like to know.
I'm Chevy Chase and you're not.
