"state of Virginia"?  >:(

That's the great Commonwealth of Virginia to you.  And don't you forget it.

Just finished packing, after Maundy Thursday services.  Pastor even made sure to say that she understands that we wouldn't be there for the Good Friday or Easter Egg Hunt events and that I would be absolved...  :D

Sitting here in our hotel room, in Salem (well it's actually Roanoke) but we're here.  Even drove to the CC just because.  A good nights sleep, and it will be game day.

Safe travels to all

About ready to hit the road. Looks like a beautiful day here. Looking forward to seeing my fellow posters, Hope fans, and fans of the other school.s A special thanks to the non-Hope posters who have posted their well-wishes.

Can't wait for the games to start. May they end with Hope victories.

Who are you Jeff from Richmond?

Jeff from Richmond wouldn't have a female pastor...

Congrats to Marcus VanderHeide - Player of the year for the GL region, as named by the NABC.  According to the Hope Website, he is also a first team All-American by the NABC

Yep, that's automatic -- the NABC puts every region's player of the year on the first team, resulting in an eight-man basketball team.

I, for one, am glad to see MVH getting these post (conference) season awards.  To me there never was a question that he was the MIAA's mvp this year.  It is good to see a player from our conference get this type of recognition, and I believe his contirbution to Hope's team this year has been under appreciated by many of his own team's fans.  He just goes out and does the job every game, and has not tried to draw attention to himself.  Boy, are they going to miss him next year. :)

To FDF, CM, "guitar man", gohope, sac, et al:

Have lots of fun and represent Hope and Holland well this weekend.  veragrace and I send our well wishes, and hate the fact that we cannot be there too.   :'(  Cheer a little extra for us, will ya?  ...and maybe yell at a ref or 2 for me.   ;)  We will be there in spirit at 7pm, and may figure out a way for someone (NWHF, hint, hint) to text us updates.  Who knows, maybe we'll be back in range of WHTC for part of the game.

To realist:

Thanks for the support today and throughout Hope's tourney run.  You represent the best of this rivalry, and I appreciate you stepping up for your friends when others post comments in poor taste.  Plus K from me for keeping it real!

To the team:

God bless you with a pair of wins this weekend.  I am thrilled to see you vying for the title again, and pray that this will be your moment to hoist the walnut and bronze.  It has been a joy to watch you boys men grow this past season, and have no doubt that you have that "thing" that it takes to go all the way.

GO HOPE!!!

MWK:  Please find another hobby.  >:   :-[  If you are really a Knight fan, you would also be an MIAA fan, and as hard as it is for us old time Knights, we really do want Hope to have some fun, and win a championship this weekend.  If you read this board regularly you would understand, that while true Knights would fight tooth and nail with Hope in any competition from bball to tiddilywinks once the competition is over we are FRIENDS.  Being a friend means you respect the other party, and you want only what is best for them.
Dang it MWK,  you made me go and give you - karma, and I really hate to do that.. >:(

With all due respect I have to disagree.  Being an "old time Knight" the last thing I want is Hope to come home with a National Championship.  There are some that believe we have to root for the MIAA, just like Michigan fans have to root for Ohio State because of the big Ten, or Dale Ernhardt Jr. fans have to root for Jeff Gordon because they both drive Chevy's.  Tonight this Knight fan will be rooting for Washington U.

Go Washington U!
Beat Hope!

I see your point, in some ways I want to continue to point to our two (men's) National Championships and Hope's Zero.  But that is overcome by a few other arguments.  For one, the classy Hope posters on this board mostly rooted for Calvin in 2000 and 2005, so the least I can do is return the favor.

Another factor is that Calvin and Hope are more similar to each other than any other schools.  That is what makes the rivalry so cool--divided by a common heritage.  When I looked at schools back in the 80's Hope and Calvin were similar in reformed theology, service, worship and many other ways.  I selected Calvin due to the greater opportunities available for extra-curricular activities, slightly better academic programs, and that the kids at Calvin seemed a little cooler vs. the kids at Hope just a little dorkier.  The girls seemed just slightly cuter at Calvin, too.

Now my child is preparing to go to Calvin.  I would have no doubt that if she would have chosen Hope she would have had a pretty good education, but I am glad she chose Calvin, where she will get a great education.  So, my purplepajamad friend, if you are confident in your school, it does not hurt to support our friends to the west.

And even if they win it all, it is still 2-1.   ;D
