Three brief thoughts on why Hope lost.

1) .... unconscious shooting from the field.

2) FT!!!

3) .... I am not saying this is why Hope lost but this guy was atrocious and it did create foul problems for Hope all game.

I have to ask .... which is it?  ;)

Yes, yes. you have me there. What I meant was all three factors were contributing factors to Hope losing. The officiating was not the only reason Hope lost though and I wanted to make sure to emphasize I was not blaming the loss merely on that official, who was shockingly atrocious in the first half, or underscoring the excellent game Wash U. played.

Interesting story if not totally accurate. First, North Park has 5 D3 titles, which would be one more than the 4 the Wash U women have, which Babitt claims is the unmatched total for D3.

As far as pressure on GVW. Its self imposed pressure. Its true everyone wants to see Hope win the title from Hope but its not job pressure. Hope wouldn't fire GVW, nor should it.

Quote from Marcus in Alan Babbitts' blog: "I love them to death, their like brothers to me. I love every single one of them. Hopefully, we'll come out tomorrow and show them what kind of team we are."

1. I wasn't sure whether they would be up for the consolation game today. But they obviously take great pride in themselves. 2. They also believe they didn't play their best game yesterday. It's hard to believe that WashU could consistently put up 57 points in a half against this Hope team.

What a roller coaster yesterday:

Joy - we're in the final four
Anticipation - walking into the Civic Center
Surprise- seeing who's here - meeting old friends
Building Excitement - watching Amherst and Ursinus play
Cheers - the huge Hope crowd when Hope took the floor
Satisfaction - we're up 1 at the half
Frustration - foul trouble is making our defense slack
Disgust - everything they throw up is going in
Sadness - the realization that the game is lost
Heartbreak - the faces of our guys
Pride - we've had a wonderful season
Love - for the team, the coaches, the fans

What?!  A review of the recent posts is nearly all positive and supportive posts to the Dutchmen.  I hope you do not take a little needling about who has prettier girls as negative about the Hope basketball team.  Who's grumbling now?  Though I suppose I am grumbling about your grumbling about our alleged negativity.  Whatever.  Hope had a great year, just came up a little shorter than we had come to BELIEVE they could have.  Every trip by any MIAA team to Salem raises the stock of the whole league, so my hat's off to the Dutchmen.

OK, I just went back and reread all the posts and I will agree that more are positive, but I guess the negatives are the ones that stand out in a supportive fan's mind. I stand corrected :-[

Wow.....as much as winning a national title would have been great, i do not feel as though everything hinges on the fact that Hope still does not have a banner.  While GVW and the Hope players may not have a banner, they must look at what they've achieved over the past three seasons.  Sweet 16, Elite 8 and this year the Final 4.  That's some good basketball over the years.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can look at that and be impressed irregardless of who you cheer for.

And my sense (having never met the man) is that GVW would forego a banner if it meant he could have greater impact on another young man's life.  The banner is nice, but helping to build Christian men is way more  important.

DCHN is right. Of course if the author of the Sentinel article had taken 2 minutes to research this instead of winging it he would known that while Glenn's wife Jacquelyn is a 1967 Hope graduate, GVW graduated in 1964. But that would be too much to ask of a paid journalist wouldn't it? :o

He also got his facts wrong about the years Calvin won. (92,00)

In a way, Hope's loss to Wash U. yesterday makes me even more frustrated as a Calvin fan than I was 3 weeks ago.  Having beaten Wash U. earlier in the year when they still had Wallis makes me think that the Knights peaked in November.  Maybe next year will be a different story.

On a side note, my son's school had a fundraising auction last weekend.  4 tickets for the first Calvin-Hope game in the new arena went for $400.

GK 68:  Calvin decided long ago to go only with national championship banners.  If you start with banners for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th  place finsihes the banner total is rather impressive.
2nd place 13 times;  3rd place 4 times; 4th place 13 times.
Calvin has finished in the final 4 in 7 different sports, if my count is correct.
38 Banners would be impressive, but hardly necessary.

Hope is going to finish the year on a positive note beating Ursinus.  Up by 20, and GVW is taking the seniors out one by one.  One of Ursinus's better players is apparently hurt, and their 6' 10" guy fouled out.

CCM:  Nice to see you posting again.  :)  We have missed you, but understand.

That, even for the Sentinel, was a poorly written article.  The (D3 Hoops) announcers also just mentioned the "shadow of Calvin" thing, but they debunked it, and rightly so.
To assume a D3 coach of GVW's status is under pressure is absurd. :D
