Actually I mentioned the teams record versus Calvin in their 3 year careers in an earlier post, and it's 9-3! (1-0 in pre-conference games, 4-2 in conference games, 2-1 in conference tournament championships, and 2-0 in the NCAA).

I saw Hope play and I don't think they would have been able to shut Olson down like Wash U did.

Dustin Rudegair, Derek Griffin, Desmond Young, Steve Kyser, Nate Stahl  and Kent Raymond might have a differing opinion in Hope's abilities to shut down someone down when needed. 

I can't believe I missed this.  Help me understand Hope's abilities to shut down someone down when needed.  Was third place the goal for Hope?

With Hope's deep run in the tournament you might suspect that Hope broke a team record or two.  The one I'll focus on with this post is 3-point shooting.



Derek VanSolkema broke the single season record for 3's finishing with 84.  He pretty much obliterated the old record of 71 by Joel Holstege in 1998.

Tyler Wolfe finished with 57 3's on the year, which puts him 6th on the list.

Maybe its because I saw almost every single game Daane Griffeth played but I am shocked to see he never hit more than 59 threes in a year. I figured he had to have had more than that thinking back to a couple games where he'd go for 6+.

Maybe its because I saw almost every single game Daane Griffeth played but I am shocked to see he never hit more than 59 threes in a year. I figured he had to have had more than that thinking back to a couple games where he'd go for 6+.

He had one injury shortened season, or maybe he was part of the suspended group in 05 can't remember, and didn't get a long run in the NCAA's.  Otherwise he'd be knocking on the door of Holstege's 71.

I still consider Daane's form to be the best I've seen from a Hope player.

As many as Calvin.

I think the correct answer is really more than Calvin.  Calvin beat Wash U, but that was at Calvin.  Can't think who the other quality wins by Calvin might be?

Away from Calvin?  I think beating Albion at DeVos was the only one I can think of.

I did not bother to go back and look for the random drive-by post about Hope bribing its way to an easy sectional (actually, was that removed anyway?), but the new Top 25 coming out would be quite interesting to our little visitor. It appears that with some tournament information to review, the voters have shaken up their ballots a lot, bringing 5 teams into the Top 25 who were previously unranked. It just so happens Wheaton and OWU are among those teams, with Wheaton jumping to #11. So at the end of the year, all 5 of Hope's tournament opponents are ranked somewhere between #1 and #23. Not that the point about quality of opponents wasn't already made and not that that person is still around I'm sure.
