Should've fouled at the end of regulation.

They tried. It wasn't called.

I saw that Prince kid at the point from West MI Christian in the class D championship game. He seemed a little undersized for the MIAA, but I was very impressed with him. Quick, good skill set, excellent decision-making.

I thought so to, even said so a few minutes ago in a PM.........but after watching it again, I'm not sure there was much of an effort to foul, and perhaps Calipari was just wishing it was a foul afterward.

Wow, the good news is everyone in the MIAA shoots better FTs than Memphis. What a terrible way to lose!

Prior to that late Kansas comeback, I was all set to post on the oddity that the three NCAA national champions (Memphis, Winona State, and Wash U) are all located within spitting distance of the Mississippi River.

Yep - on review, I agree. In fact, Rose seems to be lifting his hands in that classic "I didn't foul him" pose.

The worst thing from Calipari was saying that he was going to advocate for the rule that allows reviews of 3-point shots to be changed. John Rawls, call your office.

As for Memphis's FT shooting: Rose hit 75% for the game, and Roberts-Douglas 67% (slightly below his average of 71%). It's the timing of the misses that makes it look so bad, but missing one in the first minute of the game is arguably no better than missing one at the end. You just notice the ones at the end more. That said, Memphis hit 12-19 for the game, a mere two percentage points above their season average, while Kansas hit 93%, well above their season average of 70%.

I don't think there is any way that Rose was going to foul him there.  You bear hug him if you really want the call.  The refs were right not to call anything - there wasn't even D1 contact.

On the 3-point shooting rule, Calipari can push to change it if he wants but that ref seriously blew the call when he called it a three.  It wasn't really even close.  Good work going back to the tape but the official was right there and should not have missed that call.

And while free throw shooting was not very good - I'm not sure that is where Memphis lost the game.  You have to be able to inbound the ball late in the game and have some one go deep.  Not doing so cost them at least one three and probably an easy basket or two.

OK, I will go back to lurker status until the next opportunity to throw in a couple cents.

Lurk away, tniem, but know that it was GREAT to see you again!  And a pleasure to meet DChopenut, too.  Basketball makes some great friendships.   :)

Good thumbnail overview of the issues. The breakup would've been a mess.

Under General D3 issues there's been an ongoing thread about this subject.  Somewhere in it, I thought it said the MIAA was among those conferences for a split...........the sentinel article seems to dispute that.

I think that the discussion about the MIAA and D-IV might now be viewed as one of the conferences that the "Secessionists" needed to convince that the D-IV idea was a good thing on their way to achieving the core of 150 schools.

When the MIAA and the MIAC did not fall into line, the effort unraveled.

The most frequently mentioned "D-IV" conferences were the Centennial and the NCAC.

The D-IV supplement that had the "D-IV" prospects is found here beginning on page 150.
