Ryan Ross 6-4 G(?) St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran

Detroit Free Press Fourth Team All-State Class D

Off of memory Ross averaged 31 points per game and despite his size played guard.  Not sure if thats right though.  Also a good player headed to Albion if true.

Congratulations to the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team for winning their 70th consecutive MIAA Championship this afternoon.

NW Hope Fan

They've shared that twice in the last 46 years though...  ;)

Absolutely amazing... How do they do that?

wow devossed, I used to work with Josh's dad long ago - didn't realize he had a ballplayer as a son ....  pop has been a hope fan and has had season tickets - either Hope wasn't interested, or the family opted for a little NAIA money-  pop has posted on these pages in the past with a very amusing identity - if you're out there, would love to hear from you.....

the kid from zeeland has lots of upside BUT has a lot of work to do before he sniffs the floor.  Will probably be 3-4 years (including red shirt year) before he becomes a solid contributor.  That's why I love the red shirt option, for athletic reasons. It could be one of the reasons why he chose bethel, over schools that don't redshirt.  Bethel also has a fantastic program, system, coach and tradition to boot, PLUS $$$$

I've already heard back from pop and the financial differences clearly played a major role in the decision...

the $$$ is definitely a major factor, now more than ever.  As badly as I would like these players in the MIAA, it's hard to argue against saving tens of thousands of dollars, especially when one is still able to fulfill their playing dreams at great institutions with outstanding programs.

Not to start a huge debate but I thought some people on this board might find this article pretty interesting, especially the Hope and Calvin fans.

Steven Bell of Bankhoops is reporting that David Krombeen, point guard from Grandville, is going to be playing at Hope next year

David Krombeen, 6-2 PG Grandville----Hope

Nice player to have in the mix if it turns out.

Here's a couple snippets from the pre-season and post-season GR Press.

2. David Krombeen, Grandville -- The 6-2 senior returns for his third year on the varsity for the Bulldogs, averaging 17.7 points, seven assists and six rebounds per game. Krombeen, who can push the ball upcourt quickly, is considered to be one of the top senior point guards in the state.

Grandville, Guard

This senior standout was named all-conference in the rugged O-K Red as a junior, then came back and led the league in scoring this season with just under 20 points per game.

It wasn't all about scoring for David, though, as the wiry 6-2 guard added 6 rebounds and 5 assists per contest. He was a unanimous all-conference selection as a senior and also earned honorable mention all-state plaudits in Class A.

"I think David's greatest improvement this season was his jump shot," said first-year Bulldogs head coach Kyle VanderWall. "He really excels in the open floor. He's a very shifty, very electric player."

Krombeen was also named to the Detroit Free Press Class A Honorable Mention team.  I'm not sure what kind of looks he received from scholarship programs, apparently his final decision was either Hope or try to walk-on at Michigan State.

Here's an interesting All-State team from last season in Class A.  Just for some reference on where Krombeen was as a HS Jr vs his apparent future Hope teamates as Seniors.

Third Team
Kelvin Carter--Hope

Fourth Team
Ty Tanis--Hope

Fifth Team
David Krombeen--Hope

Sixth Team
Doug Sharples--Hope

I'm not sure but I think Bankhoops.com might have jumped the gun on Krombeen to Hope.

Another name I saw on the Grand Rapids all-area team was Tyler Moran from Allendale.  Can anyone confirm he'll be attending Hope as well, I believe that was the early word back in January.
