I'm really curious to see what happens with boersma.  Do you keep another upperclassman as a backup 2, assuming that canan returns. Or do you keep a younger kid like keyser or karroll, hope that can develop into a 2 guard in a year or so.  i know Tonn could fill the shooter role ( he is better all around than boersma too) but i've heard he is going back home to wheaton.  from what I understand,  Hope did not get a great 2 guard in this recruiting class.

i'm not bashing Aaron, but he seems fairly limited on the floor, other than when he's feeling the 3 ball.  Ball handling, defense, scoring off the dribble seemed a little suspect.  from what i've been told is an outstanding young man, but i noticed inter-team bickering during games when people weren't getting enough "touches".  And if people got irritated with Tanis's follow through, they are going to hate boersma's showmanship as well.

I hope that he continues to work on his game, as well as all the other dutchman.  They will surprise people this year.

Stop the ship...... Bankhoops is confirming what i have heard all spring.  Peter Bunn, formerly of lansing Christian and Oakland University, is coming to Hope next fall.  This will REALLY shake things up in the backcourt.  Peter has come to Hope several times this spring to play, and told the boys what he was thinking, coming down to GVSU and Hope.  with oakland and GVSU signing a ton of kids, Bunn got squeezed out.

Widely regarded as a top 10 player in Michigan in the 2007 class. Great with the basketball, strong, bouncy, slasher/penetrator.  He is an instant impact player.

Different recruiting website people have said good things about Ryan Ross (6'4") and 30+ppg isn't exactly chopped liver, class D or not.

From what I've seen on this board, his character and his families character would be judged and ridiculed mercilously based on his choice of socks.  ;)

Peter Bunn 6-2 or 6-3 G 2007 Lansing Christian grad, he made everyone's Class D all-state team and several "dream teams".  In fact was Class D all-state 3 years in a row.

2007 stats.
• Bunn averaged 19 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game.
• A three-time Class D all-state selection

2006 stats
20.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game

Peter committed to Oakland U before his senior season even started.  He didn't play much, only logging 53 minutes in 18 games, I would guess all in tail ends of games.

It would be really easy to speculate on why Bunn left Oakland, but I found this quote from his coach kind of interesting after announcing the commitment of another point guard in this years class.  "Our biggest remaining need in recruiting was the point guard position."  I guess that writing on the wall is as clear as day.  His profile is already gone from the Oakland basketball site.

Peter can be a good player in the MIAA if thats where he chooses to go.

I also just discovered this - a chance to see a few of last years Seniors in an all-star game, at CU Thursday at 7:30

http://www.mlive.com/sports/grpress/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/121215091431030.xml&coll=6

Although rosters have not been finalized, some of the college seniors who have committed to play are: Michigan guard Ron Coleman; Aquinas College forward Jeff Wierzbicki; Calvin College guard Derek Griffin (Whitehall); center Marcus Vanderheide (Calvin Christian), guard Derek VanSolkema (South Christian) and guard Tyler Wolfe (Cedar Springs) of Hope College's Division III third-place team; and Grand Valley State guard Jason Jamerson, GVSU's all-time 3-point shooter who helped the Lakers to the last two Division II Elite Eight Tournaments.

Naymick (North Muskegon) and Grand Valley All-American Callistus Eziukwu (Muskegon) are a pair of centers who are questionable as they play in tryout camps that could lead to professional contracts overseas, or NBA free-agent deals.

Imagine seeing Derek Griffin, Marcus VDH, Tyler Wolfe, and Derek VS all on the same team.  That ought to be interesting.

Plus I heard that Glenn Van Wieren is coaching one of the teams.  How about the sight of Van Wieren coaching Derek Griffin!  Or DVS and Griffin jawing with the crowd in unison!

The question on Boersma has to be answered this year. With Keyser and Karroll,  they can spend one more year on the JV to see if they develop into definite Varsity material. Why try to change Keyser/Karroll into a 2 guard, when they both have shown that they are pure points? After Bosch graduates this next spring, there will be a need to backup Carter.

It's true, at least according to the Champions of Character website (and rosters have been finalized there).  GVW will be coaching the seniors, including both Dereks.  Should be fun!  $5 admission goes toward a good cause as well.  Try this link:  http://www.bcam.org/index.php

And playing for Sugar Mel is John Jonker -- always fun to watch.

my bad on ryan ross.  I have been away for a while and forgotten about him.  Is this set in stone? Or did he possibly put deposits down at other schools?

I have found Steve Bell to be very resourceful on info.  Some may dispute rankings but he normally doesn't throw stuff out there to start a controversy

So in the Holland summer league, there are a couple of Calvin teams with interesting names:

Team #4   Golden Knights
Team #5   Baby Knights

I hear there may be yet another Calvin team -- let's call them the Neo Knights -- populated by the transfers that are coming into the program.

goodknight -

Sorry, I've been away for a while.  Can you (or anyone else) fill me in on Calvin (& Hope, for good measure) recruiting?

Does Calvin have some talented transfers coming in the fall?

WK:
I just got confirmation that Trent Salo, a point guard from Rudyard in the UP who started 9 games in his freshman year for Northwood, is coming to Calvin.  He's got three years of eligibility and is likely to get a lot of PT as a backup to Dustin Smith this year and could move into the starting PG slot for his final two years.  I'm told the Calvin coaching staff really likes this kid.  He's scrappy, smart and a potentially a great pickup, especially since Bryan Van Harn is going to spend a semester abroad this next academic year and will take the year off on the hoops front.

goodknight

Not sure if I mentioned in earlier postings a couple of other recruits who are now in the Calvin fold.
Marcus Whittacker, a 6-5 forward from Leland, will be a Knight in the fall, as will Steve Cooper, a guard from Cadillac High School.

sac

Here's Trent Salo's Freshman year at Northwood, by the end of the season you'll notice he was starting.

http://www.northwood.edu/sharedmedia/HTML/Athletics/MI/Mens/basketball/stats/plyr0007.htm

Can't find much on him basketball wise other than his days at Northwood, but he was an all-state football player at Rudyard (Class D,  for football)........also the only height I can find is the 5-8 he was listed as for football in high school which would be 3 years ago now.

Seems he didn't play last year........sounds vaguely familiar to........aw nevermind ;)

sac

Marcus Whittaker 6-4 or 6-5 (6-4 according to Detroit News)--Calvin

Fifth team all-state Class D.  Avg'd 18.8 pts per game.

Not much out there about Steve Cooper.
