So when do the coaches have their meeting?

According to the MIAA calendar, Men's basketball coaches meet Thursday, November 6 at 10 AM at Albion.

Since I have been following these pre-season predictions in the MIAA for quite a few years now, and since Hope lost four starters from last year, I predict the coaches will unanimously pick Calvin.  Do I think that is the right pick??...NO, but you heard it here first.

Any chance that since Athletes in Action is an evangelistic outreach kind of group they wouldn't be playing with the passion and intensity they might have brought to the regular season?

Athletes in Action is a Christian outreach organization that features teams in almost every sport you can imagine so it is likely that the game itself is not the main concern of those on the AIA team.

I hate to be "that guy" but because coaches cannot vote for their team no pick can ever be unanimous.  I bet Hope gets at least 1 first place vote.

That's why a pick of every team except your own would be considered unanimous.

Calvin to win the league, returning to many good players with game experience!

Considering the number of new faces on the team I am not so sure Calvin is  the obvious choice for #1.  Hope has to rely on many new players as well, but think overal they have more depth and potential.  By the time the MIAA schedule starts GVW will have things worked out, and the talent we have all come to expect from Hope will shine through.
1. Hope 2 Calvin 3 Albion 4 Trine.  For the rest Adrian may sneak into a top 4 slot, but just think we are in for a typical MIAA seaon.  My guess is 12-2 or even 11-3 should get a trophy.

Hard to argue with any of that, with the wait-and-see exception of what Albion will look like under "new" leadership.

For this year I expect a rather typical Albion team.  All the players were recruited when Turner was coach.  The new coach worked under Turner long enough to know, and understand his style and strategy.  Biggest factor there is Turner will still be on campus, and serving as mentor to the new guy.  Perhaps in a year or two with his own recruits on campus the new coach may start to modify Albion, but that may not happen either.  Coach
Turner may not be on the bench physically, but expect to see his long shadow cast over the team for years to come.

I just think that after Calvin gets their new gym that it will be very hard to beat them on their home floor. I expect a big year from Mantel, and of course you will see Veldhouse exit Calvin as one of the best scorers they have had. New point guard with a tough nose mentality and a nac to get Caleb "Rip" Veldhouse running off of screens all over will be really tough to beat I think. It will be interesting to see if Veldhouse will put more in the hoop this year or will he draw more attention and allow the big to get some isolation down low.

I still think that Hope is a threat, but I think that they have lost too many great players to win the MIAA. Jesse Reimink will be the focus for oppossing teams defenses and one of there role players from last year will really have to step it up. I just find it really hard to believe that someone of their bench from last year can consistently put 15 points on the board for that young team.

Be sure to watch Boomer interview McCain and Obama tonight on MNF!!

Hope & Calvin regular season tie, Albion third, who cares about the rest.  Olivet 4th... trine
Whomever gets the homecourt advantage in tourney, gets the "big dance"nod.  Hope will have no problems scoring this season...

Oh yes, no question there.  My thoughts weren't about who would be playing or coaching style or strategy, but were more specifically about May's personal leadership style, personality when taking the helm, reaction of players to Turner's stepping down, that sort of thing.  I see them as different, but perhaps they are not.
