Do you think the coaches read this board?

If so, how much?

A lot of our recent convo is almost mirrored in the pre-season poll.

Many do read "us;" some intentionally do not.  I can guarantee you that our discussions had no effect on the pre-season poll.

About the only thing we can be certain of is the fact all the schools know that this site exists, and some link to it.
We know that atleast one SID lurks, and posts on the site, and I suspect several others do as well.  I suspect the coaches may peruse the site, but not sure they venture into posting area.  Would you if you were a coach?
I think the coaches are seeing pretty much the same thing we are, and it is pretty hard to hide things once you post a roster.
To me Calvin at #1 is a stretch, but they may just finish there, but it won't be without a good fight and several losses.  Hope is young, but still getting 3 votes testifies to the respect GVW's recruits and program get.

Buck talks about an injured newcomer O Conner, but he is not listed on the roster.

1. Calvin 10 (5)
2. Hope 11 (3)
3. Albion 20
4. Olivet 29
5. Adrian 30
6. Trine 32
7. Kalamazoo 45
8. Alma 47

The poll is rather interesting, and nearly a dead heat between Hope & Calvin.

- Calvin having 10 points with 5 first place votes, means that for the two coaches who didn't vote them #1, one voted them #2 and the other voted them #3.

- Hope having 11 points with 3 first place votes, means the other 4 coaches all voted for Hope as #2.

And everyone voted Albion third, except the coach that had Calvin third and put Albion 2nd.

I think this poll tells us most of what we already knew.  I think it shows that the coaches see the league as having 4 tiers this year.  Calvin and Hope are by far the favorites and there is little to distinguish between them at this point.  Calvin has the most returning talent (more first place votes) but has not always performed up to expectations (one third place vote).  Hope on the other hand is seen as more consistent by the coaches (only first and second place votes).  Albion is easily in the third place spot with nine points separating them from both tier one and tier three.  There is a virtual tie or 4-6 place in the third tier and Kzoo and Alma figure to fight it out for the bottom spot in tier 4.

KnightSlappy

ziggy,

I think Albion actually got three 2nd place votes (GVW, KVS, and the coach that put Calvin 3rd), two 3rd place votes, and two 4th place votes.

Latest WOTS from Hope is that they are scrimmaging at Ferris on Saturday morning.  Ferris recently played cornerstone and won 74-73. The stats are up and it was definitely a real-game feel, rather than many stop an start, laidback scrimmages.

Hope has been working with many different lineups on a daily basis and samplings are:

6. Missouri
7. Louisiana State
8. Clemson
9. West Virginia
10. Texas

Nailed it..............so yeah, congrats to Calvin,  GoKnights68 used to keep track but the MIAA coaches have a similar success rate.  But you have to do one, so they do.  Calvin is my favorite to win this years MIAA by the way.

I'm nearly confident I'm one of only a handfull of posters on this site (if that) who have ever seen Birmingham Southern College, its right up the hill from Legion Field in Birmingham (which is a dump, but an historic one at that, loved seeing it).

The house where a newborn Sac came home to fresh from the hospital stands alive and well in Enterprise, AL.  Once surrounded by fields and pecan trees, now has a lovely view of at least 3 strip malls at least 20 years past their prime........and just down the road from a Korean Presbyterian Church, which is across from the Korean Baptist Church.............in 1970 one was the "white" Baptist Church, one was the "black" Baptist Church.  So yep, things have changed.

Good to be home where people talk "normal" (and intelligible) :D ;)

I just wanted to let everyone know that as of right now the plan is to have the Hope home games live on the athletic page on Hopes website. we have the football games delayed but they are being put up on that. Just a little perk for those of us who aren't around or able to watch live. ;D

Absolutely awesome!  So are you going to be the one providing the commentary for these games - like you've been doing the last few years?

That is great! I know a number of other schools and conferences have done this for years and its great to catch some of the games this way.

Any word on whether Calvin will try this at the new arena?

You have the same 5 that I originally posted when I asked the question, plus you took the liberty of adding two more.  The two you added that I didn't have were Winkle and Bosma.  With Winkle...he was great, particularly his senior year and he led the team to a national championship, but I didn't think he had 4 dominating years like the others.  Bosma was also great, scored a lot of points and was on Hope's first national championship appearance team.  The thing with him was I felt like he never got a lot better through his four years.  He benefitted a lot by playing with Holstege his last two years (read top assist guy in league history).  Don't get me wrong, both are all-time MIAA performers and if you are putting together second and third teams they are definitely there, I just don't think they are quite at the level of the other five.
Regarding Veenstra, I think he is definitely in the second five as well, but he seems to me to be a lot like Bosma.  His best year was his sophmore year.  Granted expectations were a tad high, but I was a little disappointed in his last two years.  It wasn't until MIAA tournament time, when he realized things could come to a sudden end, that we saw one last amazing performance.
Anyways, all great MIAA performers, but I'll stick with my original five for my all-time team.
