Hope has closed their campus until Tuesday morning due to a Norovirus outbreak - including cancelling all on-campus athletic activities.

CHN:  The word I have is the new arena is totally state of the art.  The ability to broadcast the games is available, and Calvin hired a person to make this happen.  Several big screens will be used to do replays etc.  I agree it will be nice to be able to watch some games this way.
Sac:  Good to have you back.

FDF:  Any word on how they handle or reschedule games from today and tomorrow?

So far the only thing I have seen or heard is that all the on-campus events are cancelled (and it's parent weekend at Hope).  The MIAA Volleyball tournament is included in the cancellations, and has not yet been rescheduled.  No word yet on any awya games (men's soccer, mens bball scrimmage)

Just found that one myself.  So much for a Saturday trip to Ferris to watch the guys scrimmage.  Now I'll be stuck at home doing work   :'(

Wow, the trouble at Hope is amazing.

Ok, I looked to see if there was a volleyball board but there is not so this is the most active and knowledeable group I know so try not to get too upset. They've had to cancel the MIAA tourney for volleyball. I believe the automatic NCAA bid comes from the tourney. When are bids due? Will the MIAA have to send the regular season winner? Any ideas?

Norovirus is a Latin medical term that, loosly translated, means "too much drinking at the frat house last night".

CHN:  You ask a very good question.  From the NCAA 3 site it indicates selection Sunday is the 9th.  We know the AQ is.  My guess would be that Hope is declared the MIAA AQ it leaves Calvin on the bubble.  61 teams in the tourney.

I'm sure there's a flurry of phone calls this afternoon involving the MIAA schools involved and the NCAA reps and such.

Hope may have to take one on the chin...........my pure guess would be another site will host both the semi's and finals tommorrow without the lady dutch.

Sac:  You might be right.  Looking at the NCAA 3 book it is hard to tell, but have an AQ from MIAA, and than pool C.  My guess is if they do it your way Hope gets in as pool C.

Hope would be tragically short strawed if they lose out on hosting AND participating in the tournament. Hopefully, the committee would be made fully aware of the incredibly strange circumstances and put Hope in as a Pool C.

I'm surprised they are able to force Hope to cancel away athletic events. Half the team probably lives off campus and I'd suspect the majority of cases by far are underclassmen in dorms or those who eat at the cafeterias. If it wasn't 5:15 it'd be an interesting legal issue.

The tournament has been postponed until Nov. 11, Tuesday, at DeVos. It'll be a 4 team tourney (was that always the plan?) with all the games being played on Tuesday. http://www.miaa.org/

Very curious how the NCAA will handle the situation. ???

I'm gonna bite on this..

Low blow, sir. It's far too early in the year to be scratching open this particular scab.

I'm far from a volleyball expert, but maybe they'll leave 2 spots open.  One for the MIAA AQ and one for a pool C bid.  In looing at the records, it seems like either Calvin or Hope could be taken as a Pool C team.

It was a full league tournament, with games earlier this week.  The 4 team tournament on Tuesday is the remaining winners.
