I am looking forward to seeing Calvin this weekend and whether they are living up to the early enthusiasm of Knight fans. Of course, mostly I'm looking forward to Dec 5 and 6. That will give us a good gauge of the status of both teams.

The next two weekends of the HOF Tournament and MIAA/CCIW Classic should allow us to compare where Hope and Calvin are in relation to each other.  Either they play each other in the HOF final (or consolation game... please... not the consolation game) or they play the same schedule for the next four games.

My prediction at this point is for Calvin to beat AQ and for the Hope/Cornerstone game to be very close, maybe Cstone (now I'm thinking about ice cream) to win by a basket or two.  Although, I may be underestimating the home court advantage for the Dutchmen.

For now I am also guessing that  MIAA/CCIW classic ends 2-2 for each league.  I have thought that it would be cool to see this weekend turn into something more like Big Ten/ACC challenge where one conference beats up on the other where more teams from each league play each other.  Maybe throw in any two schools but Kzoo or Alma Albion and Adrian and Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan and have two four-team sites, one in Ill/Wisc and one in Michigan.

I like how you think.  I don't think Hope and Calvin really want to play eachother at this time of year and Aquinas and Cornerstone probably don't want to play eachother either.

I attended the Hope JV vs. LMC game last night in Kazoo.  WOW what a game!  Here's the recap from the KVCC site:

Hope College (JV's) 88, Lake Michigan 85     11-24-08     [Box Score]

Hope's Gustav Nystrom put on an offensive show tonight, scoring 27 second half points, including the game decider with 0:03 left to finish the remarkable comeback by the Flying Dutchmen from Holland.  The Lake Michigan Indians stormed out of the blocks in the first 20 minutes, posting a 54-34 halftime lead, but Hope was just getting warmed up.  Nystrom finished with 41 on 16-21 shooting from the field, 5-6 from behind the arc, and 4-4 from the FT line.  LMC shot a blistering 23-35 (.657) in the opening stanza, but Hope retaliated with an equally impressive 21-35 (.600) performance in the final half.  Kalyn Meeks led LMC with 19; Justin Williams and Lawrence's Adrian Ledsema each had 12; and Aaron Sanders finished with 11.  For Hope, Ryan Ross (13) and Adam Dickerson (12) complemented Nystrom's spectacular 41 point performance.

Congrats to the guys for a gutty performance on this young season!  Go Hope!  :)

I am not 100% sure I agree with you on that.  I am sure both Hope and Calvin want to win every game they play.  They both want to win their game against either CU or AQ, and yes, they may secretly  desire the other MIAA team doesn't do as well as they do.   The only way to avoid Hope/Calvin games in the HOF is to convert the games to a Classic or challenge format like MIAA/CCIW.   I tend to agree with HC that I would like to see a classic/challenge format used with 4 or more league teams involved, however I would like to see it with the OAC or NCAC so the games count as in region for all participants.

Yeah those two whole posts mentioning the JV team were troubling. ::)

Of course it is two more posts than anyone's bothered to post about Kzoo's win last night.

What was this Cub fan drinking when he penned this "ernest" query to the team's beat reporter?

With Barack Obama being elected President of the United States, do you believe his support for the White Sox will encourage the Cubs to have a more active offseason in order to be the best team in Chicago in '09?

Wow, I was just noticing the Karma/posts ratio that "Oldknight" has! He/she must be one of the most complementary posters on here. Does anyone have a higher percentage(27% positive)?   Just bored and curious I guess.

Okay, I just looked back abit and Goodknight(26%)and Knightslappy(39%) are up there as well. Do I see a pattern here with Knight fans?

Well, if the Adlai Stevenson quote won't cost OK karma, I don't know what will. (We'll see how many feminists are on the board.) OK and GK are both excellent posters who avoid the cheap-shot (so long as you don't mention Veldhouse charging into Immink to them). You tend not to lose much karma that way. As you can see, I can't resist the occasional cheap-shot, alas, and so my ratio is much lower. Well, that and the fact that my observations aren't as keen. And the fact that Calvin fans regard me as a turncoat. And the fact that I'm not as clever as I think I am. And the fact that I don't choose my battles wisely. And...

...oh, never mind. You now have limned for you the via negativa as well as the via affirmativa. As good Calvinists, however, OK and GK are probably not much for apophatic theology anyway.

With the use of word like apophatic and limned, I think you are entirely as clever as you think you are.  To save the rest of you time, I had to go to 2 sites to get the definitions:

apophatic
Part of Speech:   adj
Definition:   pertaining to a knowledge of God obtained through negation
Etymology:   Gk. apophatikos
Usage:   theology

limn
Pronunciation: \ˈlim\
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): limned; limn·ing  \ˈli-miŋ, ˈlim-niŋ\
Etymology: Middle English limnen to illuminate (a manuscript), probably back-formation from lymnour illuminator, alteration of lumenur, from Anglo-French aluminer, enluminer to illuminate, ultimately from Latin illuminare
Date: 1592
1 : to draw or paint on a surface
2 : to outline in clear sharp detail : delineate
3 : describe <the novel limns the frontier life of the settlers>

And I, for one, am glad that some of the wisdom you learned at Calvin can be sprinkled on the brethren to the west.
