As others have stated, the guys are still getting use to one another and the varied groups of five on the floor as Coach GVH looks to see what  players gels with one another.

I think I just got a dose of the gitters, unless Hope players are soooooo close that they are sharing hair products in the locker room. :o

hoopdreams

I took the opportunity(because of so many empty, available seats) to sit behind the Hope bench this past weekend.  It was astonishing to see how many times players would look over to see the staff's reaction to a play, or to see if they were going to be taken out of the game.  You cannot have players playing in fear, period.  Jesse, Bunn, and snikkers seemed to be the only ones playing freely.  If anyone else had thrown away two passes in a row like riemink did, would they have stayed in the game?  Snikkers made a mistake (think it was a forced shot), and while the coaches were trying to talk to him, he waved them off, not sure this is healthy either.

The loss on Saturday simply came down to missing shots, most of them good looks too.  Several misses at the free throw line as well.  I guess a team, especially a young one, will have games of poor shooting.  Albion last year??

On the positive side, I thought Hope's team D was outstanding in stretches in both games.  If you had told me that AQ would only score 58 points beforehand, I'd feel pretty good about the outcome.

Expect Hope and Calvin to go .500 this weekend.  Both should get a win over Carthage and suffer a defeat to Wheaton, maybe lopsided.

Bunn has played exactly 4 games for HOPE....of course he is no JH...but he will get better when he understands how defense is played at HOPE.

Bunn really hadn't played a "full" game for nearly two years.  He was hardly used at Oakland.  I'm sure he's still getting back in the groove of playing every day.

By the way Jonathan Jones the PG who Bunn would have played behind at Oakland lit up Oregon for 32, and is averaging a staggering 39 minutes per game. (good choice)

Bunn's Sr. stats at Lansing Christian
Bunn averaged 19 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game.
~~~very Joelesque ;) :D
For those of you who have been praying for Taylor DeRoo, he is out of the coma, talking, joking, and being a teenager.  The neurologists are amazed.  Thanks for your prayers.
Based on past experience in this "Challenge", I think we would all be happy with a .500 weekend.
How come there isn't a "2-2, Calvin 2 wins" option?
MIAA goes 3-1 and Wheaton drops both games.
If I had predicted last weekend's tourney to end the way it did you would have spoken of a similar alternate universe. ;)
Yup.  Never allowed myself to think Hope would get by C'stone, for starters.  But really (and this is not specifically to you KS, unless you're the culprit) was my friendly comment with the promise of karma worth smiting me over?  Seems the pettiness fairy has been clubbing someone with their magic wand.  Sheesh.
Not all of the participants have submitted their weekly picks yet, but of the 17 picks that are in at the moment over in the CCIW pick'em room this is what the early returns for CCIW/MIAA Classic prognostication look like:
CCIW 4, MIAA 0
two picks
CCIW 3, MIAA 1
Wheaton wins twice, Carthage beats Hope, Calvin beats Carthage
four picks
CCIW 3, MIAA 1
Wheaton wins twice, Hope beats Carthage, Carthage beats Calvin
two picks
CCIW 2, MIAA 2
Wheaton wins twice, Carthage loses twice
eight picks (this is the Wiz scenario)
CCIW 1, MIAA 3
Calvin beats Wheaton, Wheaton beats Hope, Carthage loses twice
one pick (this was the only picker to go against Wheaton in either game)
Incidentally, are any of you MIAAers making your way over to our side of the lake next weekend? I'll be there for Friday night's games, and would like to say hi to any of you that show up.
I will be there, and look forward to seeing you again.  I would love to see an MIAA sweep, but expect to leave with both teams 1-1.
