Incidentally, are any of you MIAAers making your way over to our side of the lake next weekend? I'll be there for Friday night's games, and would like to say hi to any of you that show up.

The two Hope game every 4 years that are 2 miles from me hoose and I get conned into traveling to East Lansing to see the girlfriend!  Oh, the irony!!!

Real girlfriends watch MIAA basketball...  :D  I guess you've already tried to convince her of that, though, right?   ;)

At least she is tolerant  :P  Now, if only I had realized this was the Wheaton year before agreeing to make the trip!

Edit: for the amazing new avatar!  If you don't already know, you should!

My wife constantly says she already saw her game for this decade!

Maybe I should try out this girlfriend idea....

Seriously?  Oh brother.  Ah well, I'd be more concerned if karma were money.  Since it's not...eh. ::)

Careful now...you might get clubbed by something other than the pettiness fairy if your wife finds out.  And for goodness' sake, don't tell her it was my idea.   :o   That's NOT what I meant!   :D

I'm really concerned about the number of people who think their sister is cute from the poll.  :o

I will be there, and look forward to seeing you again.  I would love to see an MIAA sweep, but expect to leave with both teams 1-1.

Erm and I will be there as well.

Heck my sister's so cute I'd introduce her to you, if she weren't already married  :)

To be honest, I doubt that Hope will get back in the top 25 this year, barring a major upset this weekend (Hope does seem to know how to defend Wheaton).  That being said, they may well be a dangerous team come the end of February.

FDF:  You shouldn't be so hard on your guys.  Hope did a decent job against Kingshott and CU inside the other night.  Granted they did not do as well against L & L on Sat., but considering how new to Hope many of your players are it takes time to get the defense where one wants it.  I think Hope, and Calvin for that matter are going to need to play perfect ball to have a shot against Wheaton.
I definitely agree Hope has the potential to be lethal come the end of Feb. 13-1 is possible, but 12-2 is more realistic for Hope in the MIAA.
Are you doing the pick board this year?

I HOPE I'm not being too hard on the Hope team, just looking to be realistic.  With such a young team there are going to good games and bad games - with the later HOPEfully dimishing quickly.

Yes, I will be doing the pick 'em board again, and plan on starting with the first set of conference games (which are on January 7th).

Like FDF I see some growing pains with this year's team. They were able to jell last year in no small part because they had four seniors starting. These guys will take more time to figure each other out and to communicate with each other. I believe it was realist who last year kept commenting on the unique chemistry to last year's team. I think that's right. Then too, they had a really exceptional defensive stopper in Klein, and balanced scoring. It's not as obvious to me from whence the scoring will come this year, and who their lockdown defender is (anyone who saw both the MIAA and NCAA tournaments last year knew how valuable Klein was, and when he got in foul trouble against WashU I think that was the turning point of the game (we were only down by three when he got his fourth foul)). The talent is there, however, and like FDF I suspect Hope will be a dangerous team come the end of February. 12-2 in the MIAA? I'll take that right now. I don't see 13-1 happening.

That's why I'm so interested to see the Wheaton game this year. Alas, local duties will prevent me from attending, but I'll be eager to find out whether Hope can contain Raymond this year the way they did last year. I'm guessing no, and that a highly motivated revenge-seeking Raymond will tee off on Hope to the tune of 30+. If you aren't sure what the buzz is about with Raymond, you didn't see the Whitworth game last year.

Ain't happening; no one will go 12-2 this season. Any team that winds up 11-3 will do no worse than a co-championship in 2008-09.
