I definitely agree Hope has the potential to be lethal come the end of Feb. 13-1 is possible, but 12-2 is more realistic for Hope in the MIAA.

Ain't happening; no one will go 12-2 this season. Any team that winds up 11-3 will do no worse than a co-championship in 2008-09.

I was thinking 10-4, good buddy.

HopeConvert

I've also been thinking 11-3 will win the league, although 10-4 is reasonable, and I think the tournament will be pretty wide open.  That's why I said I'll take 12-2 right now if you give it to me. I don't see Hope pulling that off. Again, this weekend's games will be a fairly decent measuring stick for Hope and Calvin. If only a certain former Hope basketball player could weasel me out of my commitment, I could go.  :(

Anyone have any thoughts on the MIAA/WHAC  challenge this weekend.  Alma, Olivet, Madonna and UM-Dearborn will square off at Alma.

Oddity of oddities UM-Dearborn has a game Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.

UM-D is 3-3 and lost to Grace Bible to start the year.  Madonna fell to 0-8 after losing their last game to Northwood 80-47..........their website called it a "setback".  No kidding.

Olivet has to be a favorite to win both games.  Alma should have at least a competitive shot at a couple wins.

Front page reports that the Men's Tourney has been expanded to 60 teams! I think this is great news now if they'd only just take the logical step and add 4 more teams and stop this first round bye silliness.

Anyone heard anything about Olivet's status in the MIAA for the future?

There is a post on M-Live (not very reliable at times), that Olivet is leaving the MIAA after 2009 seasons.

Having just received the Calvin College calendar for 2009 it is marked the week of the MIAA tournament to go back to page 1190 to see who is the better prophet.  The 13-1, 12-2 , 11-3 or 10-4 ones. :)

2009 seasons is WAY too long to be a member of any one conference.  I know that the MIAA is the nations oldest conference but I didn't know that it went back THAT far. ;D

was in holland yesterday for "business" and popped into practice albeit briefly, and it looks like there may be a lineup change in the works for the dutchmen. No combo is going to work until most of the boys stop playing timid.

I too, believe 10-4 will win/tie regular season, Olivet is ready to join the party.

No Hope posters have commented on Nate King's PT as of yet.  Doesn't seem to benefit him much playing 5 total minutes in 4 games. Unless he is playing jv games too, which I have not watched as of yet

That would seem logical but the article pointed out that the NCAA likes to have roughly one tournament team for every 6.5 teams in Div III.

He's sure not your typical end-of-the-bench guy like Scott Glaser, Dan Holt, Dan Greenan, Tim Dygraaf, Patrick Woolpert, Kevin Warren, etc guys, which are usually JV graduates who play the game right but have little upside.  I would love to see King play with the JV team.  He could really develop his skills and gain confidence like Gustav Nystrom, Logan Neil, and Ryan Ross are doing right now.

Along the same lines, is this one of the more talented JV teams we've seen?  Nystrom, Neil, and Ross look like surefire varsity players.  And to me, they're not the end-of-the-bench types.  They have legitimate athleticism and basketball skills.  Did anyone see Gustav dunk against I think Trinity Christian?  He's listed at 6'2 and boy did it look easy.

Definitely a talented bunch.  Nystrom has a penchant for the dunk, and the speed to get himself open for it, but he's not a one-note player and has much to offer.  Fun to watch.  Neil had a move against KVCC last week that I'm sure I never saw his dad pull off.   ;)  (A slight exaggeration, but you get the point.)  Ross is talented as well, but seems a bit more spotty to me, at least the few times I've watched him so far.  Let's just put it this way -- if you have the opportunity to watch this jv squad, don't miss it.   :)

On a serious note would that affect MIAA's automatic NCAA bid. I haven't heard a thing prior to the postings here so I have no idea if there is any validity to the rumor.

If memory serves me correctly  the MIAA added Wisc. Lutheran for football in order to get to 8 football schools and receive an automatic bid. However, prior to Trine's joining the league there would have only been 7 men's basketball programs and the MIAA had an automatic bid prior to Trine's membership. Right?

Are there different rules for basketball Pool A bids?

You need 7 schools for an auto-bid for basketball and football.

The MIAA is unique in that one of its members doesn't play football, hence the need to borrow Wisc-Lutheran for a few years.
