being a numbers guy, I checked out the statlines for Wheaton and Carthage.  How's this brief summary:
Carthage guard (coaches son) was averaging 30+ after 3 games, while attempting only 6 3's (1-6) and had been to the line 63 times in those three games.  Guessing it would be advantagous to take a charge or two if possible and hope to create an extra turnover as well.

Wheaton seems to be clicking on all cylinders thus far with raymond and big fella scoring 20+. Interesting to note, their young pg from last year who played so well (I thought) is coming in with the second unit.

Based on what I've seen from the MIAA thus far, this weekend may not be pretty but I hope that both teams grow from this, learn to play together, get everyone involved, and learn how to compete for 40 minutes.

Other than the obvious (Reimink & Bunn), the two key players for Hope IMHO this weekend will be Bosch and Osburn.  Both CCIW teams present All-American type scorers on the perimeter and so far Bosch has been the lock-down defender of choice for Coach VW.  His speed can frustrate some players that he guards by being in their jersey around screens, but I worry about his on-the-ball defense as these are some tough matchups.  Osburn provides some toughness inside which is the area that the CCIW teams have exploited in the past and will need to come through with a big weekend defensively and on the boards.

I don't think this weekend will be putting the MIAA on the map for conference superiority, but it should turn out better than the trip to Carthage two years ago.  I'm predicting a 2-2 weekend with Wheaton defending their home floor and both MIAA teams beating Carthage.

This is a pretty important weekend for Calvin.  Calvin must show they are not down the same path of last years' disappointing season after a good opening weekend.  Wheaton may be the favorite, but Calvin has the talent to beat them if they play to their full potential.  Lets play some defense, Knights!

I'm not so sanguine as you all about the MIAA's prospects this weekend. Hope has yet to put the sticky stuff in the hair. Calvin may have the talent needed but with three starters new to the team, the defense may not be there yet to contain some of these potent scorers.

Wheaton has to be a favorite to win two games. Carthage looks pretty strong too, by my calculation. If Calvin and Hope play the way they did the first weekend of the season, the MIAA could go 1-1 against Carthage. If Calvin and Hope play like they did the second weekend, I think we'll have two competitive games.

Good points.  I believe that Calvin and Hope both have enough talent to win any game against any team on any night.  The question that fans of both teams want answered is whether Calvin/Hope can step up and play at a high level for 40 minutes or not.  And also, will that level of play continue throughout the season?

On one of the post game interviews KVS mentioned that Caleb has had the Wheaton game circled on his calendar for a long time.  Caleb is going to have to step up against Mr Raymond and Big John Mantel is going to have to be a beast against Mr Wiele.

I think both Mantel, and Veldhouse will come ready to play, and will do whatever they can to turn the tide in Calvin's favor.  That being said DK wisely makes the point we have 3 players that we haven't seen how they will respond under these circumstances.  That is why I was very disappointed that Calvin & Hope did not play last week.  Nothing perpares a Calvin team and Calvin players like playing Hope at Hope.
Looking at the stats for Wheaton shows 3 guys in double figures, and about 8 guys with time in most games.  Looking at the roster would seem to indicate the teams match up resonably well.   Perhaps by Sat. when Hope gets Wheaton they will be fatigued from Chicago on Wed., and Calvin on Fri.  Faint prospect at best, but remember several years ago with their big guy hurt.

Time flies, I know, but get realistic, realist. ;)
The big guy, Andy Weile, was injured in the opening minutes of the Hope-Wheaton game last year.
Of course, he recovered overnight to help the Thunder eke out a victory over Calvin the next afternoon.

Panner going 7-7 from beyond the arc didn't hurt the Thunder in that game either.  Egads!

Mr. Ypsi

On the poll above, by far the most common vote was 2-2.  Based on comments, I'm guessing that many of those are predicting Hope and Calvin both beat Carthage but lose to Wheaton; but I'm wondering how many are 'loyalty' picks with either Hope 2-0 or Calvin 2-0?

9 out of 12 of the measureable voters thought that Calvin would win more games than Hope. So, my guess would be that if any of the 2-2 voters thought one team would get both wins, more (probably not the same 3 out of 4) voters thought Calvin would get the wins.

MRY:  Hard to tell, but my sense is much like yours that there are few "loyalty" votes in the mix.  Would I like to see Calvin win two, darn right, but do I expect that to happen.  Like the economist told the senators yesterday it is not a very high probability.  Could the MIAA get completely shut out. Yes.   Could either Hope or Calvin win one.  Yes.  Could it go 2-2
probably.  Could it go 3-1 for the MIAA?   Greatly reduce probability.  Could the MIAA win all 4.  Well if they do I wouldn't even dare to lurk on the CCIW board for the rest of the month. :)
gdK:  Of all the things I've ever lost I miss my mind the most.  I sure thought that was longer ago than just last year.  ;)  Perhpas I've slipped into one of those alternate universes we keep hearing about.
