Emerson 1 Framingham State 1 (halftime)

It has been an unusual set of events that led to me watching this game.  1. I still have a few days of a Flosports subscription (more about that shortly). 2. Emerson's next opponents are the 🦣, so you could call this advance scout work. 3. I'm holed up in a hotel in Chicago for a few days before heading back to downtown Enmore, so had the time to watch.

I'll get the FloSports re-whinge out of the way first.  Another no commentator situation which when watching two teams I know nothing about, makes it a little challenging.  Surely, there is a budding commentator amongst the student body interested in honing their skills.  It has at least reduced my average $/game cost, which will be cut further by the Lions/Mammoths game on the weekend.

I was hoping to discover that Emerson came into being on the back of a grant from Keith Emerson (RIP) of ELP fame (look it up kids, Fanfare To the Common Man - a classic of the very late 70s), or failing that, Ralph Waldo, but it turns out it was a chap named Charles instead.  In any event, the Lions almost had a penalty in the first minute when a foul was committed right at the edge of the penalty area.

It's worth pointing out that I only knew it was Emerson in hindsight, as in around the eighth or ninth minute (difficult to tell exactly as the FloSports game clock was updating in one minute intervals) Framingham actually scored.  It was off a set piece and converted around the six yard box.  This was accompanied by genuine excitement as the Rams are yet to win this season.  In fact, they could have extended that lead, but just went wide (I think, as the camera struggled to keep up).

I didn't check how many times they had led games, but given that Emerson has had some good results, a win against Bates, a draw with WPI and a 2-0 loss to Tufts, it wasn't unreasonable to expect them to come back.  And that is precisely what they did, in around the 28/29th minute, when what looked like a possible defensive mishap (that could be completely wrong, as I was watching on my phone) saw the Lions equalise, which on balance felt fair.

The white shirts now had their tails up and had a good spell and I can only imagine that the Framingham players may have had that sinking feeling.  To their credit, they rallied and right on half time must have had a very good chance due to the exclamations of despair I heard.  Sadly, it seemed that the camera person didn't quite get there.

I'm not watching the second half as I am hungry, but will be keen to see the final result.

Some non-chronological observations:

1. Rotch Field has a lot of lines which makes viewing a little challenging and also looks to have a circular quarter carved out which I am guessing is either for baseball or softball or perhaps to facilitate alien landing.
2. One of the Lions when tackled from behind, went down in writhing pain, his distress perfectly captured by the FloSports microphone.  He did however experience a miraculous recovery and less than ten seconds later was able to spray a rather impressive 30 metre diagonal (we are metric in Enmore).

No foul count, that's only available to ECSports subscribers.
