The Rose Bowl Rule is the SCIAC tiebreaker in the event of a three way tie (two way ties are settled by head to head).  In a three way tie, the team that has waited the longest since its last trip to the playoffs gets to go.  Redlands went last year, Oxy the previous 3 years, so CLU would get the Pool A bid if it ended the season in a three way tie with Oxy and Redlands.

It's called the RBR because the Big Ten and Pac Ten use a similar rule for Rose Bowl participation.

Thanks -- just keep seeing that reference & didn't know what it meant. +K for you!

And I don't think anyone is very fond of it until the end and then just the benefactor.......duh :-\  I would rather see a three way KC Tiebreaker but unless there is a week off between reg season and playoffs....it would never happen.

...and the very same rule helped those who pressed for an NCAA playoff system get one because the PAC 8/10 and Big 10 were not sending the best TV revenue teams to the Rose Bowl.

So, is there any truth to the accusation that no one in the SCIAC will return calls or agree to play Linfield?  If so, why not?

No one in the SCIAC cares about playing the perennial second place team from the NWC.

OxyBob

But the SCIAC does care about that second-place team's kicking game...

A good kicking game is essential to finish second three straight seasons.

OxyBob

So where'd everybody go?  Was expecting a fiery discussion about the upcoming Cal Lu/Oxy game.  Just not wanting to talk about it?

snoop dawg

My opinion....CLU's defense might hold the score down but, Oxy wins by two td's anyway.

bbaddict

So, let me see if I'm getting this picture correctly.  Cal Lu, Oxy & Redlands all have 3 conference wins and Redlands lost to Oxy already.  But, looks like Cal Lu still needs to play Oxy & Redlands which could cause some confusion at the top?  This is why you've all been discussing the Rose Bowl Rule?

Who's got the toughest offense?  Defense?

What's the most likely to happen?  Just curious?

bbaddict

Thanks for your reply snoop dawg.  I'm guessing that the Bearcats will have to play one of those 3 teams -- most likely Oxy?

snoop dawg

I think Oxy beats CLU  this year and runs the table...end of story.  Redlands might get a second bid.
