Here are the statistics leaders through 8 games:

Scoring offense: Redlands 38.8 ppg, Oxy 38.0
Oxy will probably be leading in all of the offensive categories after this weekend when the Tigers reclaim The Shoes while Redlands has to face that tough CLU defense.

CLU is going to have a real tough time moving the ball against Redlands, and the Bulldogs have more weapons on offense than the Kingsmen. That will be a good game in contrast to the Oxy-Whittier game. Unless the Poets are planning on reactivating Josh Scurlock, Myron Claxton and his shoes, and Don Coryell, it's going to be a long day for Whittier. Last season both teams scored over 60; this time only one might.

Ouch. It hurt more than I thought. i'm currently re-thinking my prior decision....I think I'm going to copy and paste all my documents from word from now on. Thanks for the help Tooth. Maybe I'll just send you all my posts and you can give them the once through.

Back to football. With Redlands ranked what are the chances they get a Pool C bid? I'm praying against this as I want to witness a Tiger whooping of the bearcats.

OXY!

I posted this question in the General Football section, in the "Pool C" thread, no response as of yet.  I think that most folks view Redlands as being on the bubble.  A decisive victory over Cal Lu will certainly not hurt their chances, but if you really want to know, I think Pat has posted the DIII selection criteria somewhere . . . I just don't know where . . .

If you look at the football front page poll . . . Redlands is running a pitiful last place in response to the question of who has the best shot at an "at large" bid . . .

I'm not particularly optimistic for Redland's chances and am frankly torn . . . I love the notion of Oxy getting to host a first round game . . . but really think that will only happen if Redland's gets to the dance . . . I really want to see Oxy play Willamette . . . and the best way for that to happen is for it to be a first round match . . . and I have a much better chance of getting permission from the boss (read spouse) to go to Oregon on the 22nd rather than over Thanksgiving weekend . . .

I guess we'll all know on Sunday.

Io Triumphe!

Does anyone know long did Oxy left their first team in last week.  More than the first half?  Just curious.

paddymac

That should have read "How long they left their starters in."

Just curious -- would that be the same Oxy team that only beat Cal Lu by 3 & Laverne by 13?  WU beat Cal Lu by 14 and LaVerne by 44 -- both at their house!  Just wondering if Oxy retooled or something for the whooping of the Bearcats?

bb, I really never understood that comparison. Although it is simple to see and takes minimal analysis, it doesn't reflect player participation, minutes played by said players etc. Not saying that either team had more or less of their bench in there but everybody should know that if it is to be Oxy vs. Will, it wil be a cat fight and why risk healthy starters so late in the season? Lots of young kids played in the Pomona game second half. Cal Lu...different story, hope that one is out of their system.(Acts of God help) ;)

It's the same Oxy team that was up on LaVerne 40-6 at the end of 3 quarters and gave everyone a chance to play . . . and the same Oxy team that beat Cal Lu despite Goltz having a crappy day and the team turning the ball over what, five times? . . .

An Oxy v. Willamette matchup should be a great game.

snoop dawg

tooth,

You make good points but don't take any credit away from the CLU defense, they played a good game.

Sabretooth Tiger

I don't, CLU has a great defense, which I think reflects well on Oxy and how the Tigers will perform in post-season.

Hey, I was just asking.  I wasn't at any of those games since they were all in CA.  I agree that a contest between Oxy & WU would be a "great game"  -- I just don't know if it would be a "whooping" by Oxy! :)  I am wondering about Menlo, however.  They've had some pretty close games in the NWC & I don't think WU is taking that game for granted, or they shouldn't be.

snoop dawg

I was more impressed what the Oxy offense did to the Redland's defense at Redland's in the biggest game of the SCIAC season.

;D That's fan exhuberation. I'm sure you are used to it from being so close to Wildcat nation. ;) Menlo is a rising team, and you are right, not to be taken for granted.

Can't a fan express some enthusiasm. I dont't feel that just saying "I can't wait to see Oxy edge out Will." gives me much credibility as player turned fan. From first hand experience, I know that the players are excited for a big time victory and not just a squeaker.....

GO TIGERS!
