I thought it was a question only a jerk would ask.  I don't expect you to understand.

Welcome SaintsFan.
Not "my board" though.
Enlightenment, please, how far east is Thomas More?

Did Oxy (and the West) get the short straw again?  Is it true that Oxy was originally scheduled to host...and then have the bracket changed again (as it was in basketball?)  First time on the site today, so pardon me if I missed this if the point was already made/debated...

Sabretooth Tiger

Gray Fox . . . a little testy tonight?

As for the posts re "Oxy was at home then the beancounters . . . . " . . . probably all true . . . but folks I know and trust to have some knowledge about the NCAA and $$ saw it coming a mile away . . . unfair . . . sure by way of traditional bracket calculations . . . but no way a surprise . . .

it is what it is . . . and if the Tigers can prevail, home field advantage for the next round . . .

Io Triumphe!

I've sympathized with you guys for years, but this year I feel it directly too.  MUC was obviously going to be the overall #1 seed, but NCC (#1 in the North) would objectively be #2 (or at worst #3) - nonetheless, North plays East in the semis because MUC (whom they obviously expect to win the East) can host any North champion without a plane ride.

Ours is a minor (and one-year) complaint compared with yours, but it really sucks that the NCAA is so blatantly cheap and willing to say 'screw the seeds'.

Or they truly feel North Central is the fourth-best No. 1 seed.

Yeah, I (briefly) considered that possibility. ;)  But I have too much respect for the d3football.com poll to figure #2 NCC goes behind #6 Willamette (behind #3 Millsaps, maybe :D).

It's a bean-counter conspiracy, I tell ya (can I get an Amen from the Left Coast and Texas?) ;D

Do you think they really would have pitted Millsaps against UMHB in the first round because of their tight-fistedness?

Yes. Why do you assume otherwise?

Do you have any idea why they changed the West bracket at the last minute, after initially planning to send two Midwest schools out to the west coast?

What's Gonna Happen at Whittier??? Is it true that Hammer and his staff will get their walking papers. I am new to D3 football. How often do coaches get fired?

Is this true, or does your email address mark you as a troublemaker? ???3

Sorry if I made a bad impression, but it's something I overheard in the stands on Saturday. I personally like Hammer and hope he stays.

I'm not huge on conspiracy theories, but has anyone else noticed that the Mount Union Bracket only has 4 teams ranked Top 25 by DIII Football for this week?  The others all have more with the West and the South getting the worst of it with the most Top 10 teams.   Guess it adds credibility to that East Coast bias theory.

BTW -- I was really impressed with the DIII playoff projections -- you guys were pretty on target, with a few tiny exceptions.

I have no idea about what is happening at Whittier.  Hammer has a young team and has looked at several quarterbacks.  If a coach gets fired, the staff usually goes too.

I'm going to assume this is a false rumor.  Winning is important, but at D3 there are many other educational and school related issues that are considered.   He has done very well in recruiting.  That is a very positve factor.

Keep posting.   :)

...as they are every year now that they have a firm grasp of the division. That would be why people on the boards say the d3 staff should do the bracket picking.

Every other #1 plays #8.

Every other #2 opens at home.

Can you feel the love? ???
If Oxy wins, they will be the home team until Salem. :)

I could be wrong but I thought it was the higher seed that hosts the West/South semifinal. If Oxy defeats Willamette, they have homefield for the rest of their West Region games. However, since Millsaps is the South #1 seed, if they win their region I believe they would host Oxy in that situation. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
You are correct.  I skipped that step.
I just realized  a possible personal silver lining in the cloud.

Since I live in Dallas, I'm planning to drive to the UMHB/HSU game this weekend and probably the game on the 29th in Texas.  If Oxy makes it to the semis and plays at Millsaps, or possibly UMHB, those are doable for me. Weather in Texas this time of year can always be a travel factor.

Actually, it proves that the D3 poll does not have an East Coast bias.  And it further goes to show how weak the East region is.   :)

What a ridiculous post. North Central is the No. 1 seed in its bracket and if NCC wins will host until the tournament semifinals when they may have to play higher ranked Mount Union. Aw, poor babies. Shameless homers are never satisfied.

Firing BJ Hammer is not the answer. In the last 10 years Whittier hasn't has a single winning season (the best they had was 4-4, 4-1 SCIAC in 2000), and during that time they've finished last or tied for last in the conference 6 times. The Poets' conference record in the last decade is 13-43 and their overall record is 19-70. This season Whittier's only win came against Principia, a team which was shutout 4 times, scored 7 or less 4 other times, and was outscored 443-57. The problem with Whittier football goes a lot deeper than coaching.
