Menlo:   Oxy W 38-28    WU W 28-3
Cal Lu:  Oxy W-24-21     WU  W 31-17
LaVerne:  Oxy W 40-27  WU W 44-0

What I see is that Oxy and Willamette were each 3-0 against common opponents.

Good point.  I got dragged into the common opponents arguement and somehow got fooled into arguing margin of victory.  For shame bbaddict, this isn't the BCS   ;D
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

While neither of us likely will be favored in the first round (SJU certainly will not), I'm hoping for the chance to play Oxy in round 2.  Having lived in Pasadena and had my children play at the Rose Bowl (sorry, OB, it was soccer), I would like nothing better than to have the Johnnies experience a little of Southern California.  It would make up for the last minute loss to Whitworth in 06 that kept the Johnnies from visiting then.  Eat 'em up, Tigers. 8)

I think the numbers are virtually meaningless.  Who ever doesn't turn the ball over, tackles, blocks and executes the best will win the game.  Football 101, pure and simple.  Just my opinion.

Good luck tigers.

No but WU's starters appear to be playing a bit longer than the Oxy starters.

In the Menlo game they were in through the last drive which ran out the clock, this included a scoring drive while up 21-3.

Not sure what game you were watching, but the last "drive" was the WU QB on the Menlo 15 taking a knee.  The TD was scored earlier in the 4th Qtr.  They could've scored or kicked a FG but didn't.

QuoteWhat can you guys tell us about Oxy--I haven't paid very close attention to the Tigers (other than scores) this year.

Unspoken so far would have to be the fact that the Cal Lutheran game would not have come down to a game tying field goal try if Justin Goltz had not displayed his worst performance of the year in Thousand Oaks.
If he hiccups like that again WU could walk away with as lopsided a score as they did at LINFIELD.    ;D

I'm curious about how well Oxy travels - anyone able to give an educated guess as to how many Oxy fans we can expect at McCullough on Saturday?

OZ...you are a genius!  You saw right through me. :D

I just think you can compare numbers all night long without any meaning.  This year other than UR, Oxy and CLU, the SCIAC was very weak.  I am not sure if the NWC  was more competitive from top to bottom or not.  The numbers both Oxy and WU had during the regular season can be throw out the window not that they are playing much tougher competition and teams that had the chance to mature over the season.

It all breaks down as to how they play on that day, under the conditions and pressure of the day.  I think this is especially true when you have two fairly evenly matched teams like Oxy and WU.  Again, just my opinion, and like my daddy used to say, opinions are like arshholes, everybody has one. ;)

I would also be interested in knowing the recent playoff history of OXY an WU.  This could play into the final score as well.  If one or the other team has had recent playoff success or has been to playoffs quite often, this might give an upper hand to one team.  Sorry for my ignorance on the history of OXY and WU in the playoffs.

I'd like to say good luck to both teams.  Obviously, my loyalty is with the Tigers, but both teams are deserving representatives on the West Coast.  It's too bad that they have to face each other in the First Round...

When I look down the rest of the bracket and see some of the other teams that get to host a first round game, I get a little agitated, but the SCIAC and NWC island can't be moved.  Hopefully Oxy wins and gets considered for a 2nd Round home game.

What's the weather like in Salem this weekend, and do any of you think it will be to Oxy's advantage having traveled to the NW before?  I mean, does familiarity count for something here?  Whereas, they could have been sent somewhere none of them had ever been to (Wisconsin, etc)...

Last question, how much, if anything can we infer from the game in 2004.

Not much except that the coaches have gone up against each other once before.  My recollection was the Willamette players looked pretty damn big as well.

Expect a large contingent.  At the first game of the season, we had almost as many fans as Colorado College!

By my count, at least 10 percent of Oxy's roster comes from the Pacific Northwest.

Sitting on my lap top, reading the board, pretending to be working while watching Dancing with the Stars.  Warren Sapp moves pretty good for a big, big man.

I am going to predict the Oxy-Wu game to be decided by two points, just cant figure out who has the extra two yet.  I hope Oxy wins so I can possibly see a second  round playoff game.  I know tooth will save me a seat.

Weather forecast for Saturday (on Wed) is for a 30% chance of showers and a high of 50deg.  I expect that will change later in the week; yesterday when I checked, it was 53 and partly cloudy with a 10% chance of showers.
