Good news for you RFB. Bad news for the rest of the SCIAC if he comes back healthy and wins the starting job. If the D comes back strong like last year the team is going to be to tough to knock off the SCIAC throne in 09. Then there is the playoff 1 and out but lets not get ahead of ourselves here.

Geeze, I think it is safe to keep Cal tech out of this one..... .....Oh wait, they rule that category as well and beyond.

Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your time with your family. Back to Cal tech for a summer research program.

Article about Oxy wide receiver Jason Lehman from the Napa Valley Register:

Quote
Lehman eyes big season
Occidental star stays true to his Justin-Siena roots

After catching a 16-yard touchdown pass for Occidental College in the third quarter of a nonconference football game against Chapman University last year, Jason Lehman's thoughts immediately turned to Brother Jerome Gallegos.

Holding on to the ball in the end zone, Lehman paused for a moment.

"I looked up to the sky and just thanked him for everything that he had given me," said Lehman, a wide receiver and 2006 Justin-Siena High School graduate. "I feel like he is one of the reasons that I'm here at this point of my life."

Brother Jerome, a Christian Brother for over 50 years, died following an extended illness at Mont La Salle on Oct. 17, 2008. Before the game, Lehman told his mom, Joanne Lehman, "Anything I do in this game is for Brother Jerome."

Lehman did a lot, in fact, leading the Tigers with 10 catches for 135 yards with a long reception of 33 yards. He dedicated the game to Brother Jerome, a former principal at Christian Brothers High School-Sacramento, De La Salle-Concord and Cathedral High-Los Angeles. Brother Jerome was a big fan of Justin-Siena athletics.

"He definitely meant a lot to me at Justin-Siena and after," said Lehman. "He loved to watch Justin-Siena football and he loved to watch us compete and play out there."
...

Lehman has made some big strides at Occidental, a small, private NCAA Division III school which plays in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with California Lutheran, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona College, University of Redlands, University of La Verne and Whittier College. He made a position change upon going to college, switching from quarterback, where he ran coach Rich Cotruvo's Houston split-back veer offense at Justin-Siena, to wide receiver for Occidental.

Lehman started for the Tigers as a sophomore, but had his best season in 2008, catching 38 passes for 633 yards, a 16.7-yard per catch average, with six touchdowns in nine games. A team captain, he also ran for 20 yards on four carries and scored a touchdown. The Tigers — who use a spread offense out of the shotgun with a one-back set — give him the ball on a fly sweep.
...

Lehman — who is spending the summer in Los Angeles, getting ready for his senior season — has made such an impression that Widolff says he is probably the most physical receiver the Tigers have had and is the best blocking wide receiver they've had in 20 years. On top of that, Lehman is also a team leader and is looking forward to working with the new players to the program on pass catching and route running.

"He's just a good route runner and then he's strong enough to break tackles after the catch," said [head coach Dale] Widolff. "He's a ferocious blocker. We throw a lot of screens to the other wide receivers, so he has to make good blocks on that.

"He's basically bigger and stronger than most of the DBs he's going to play with, so he's able to be physical with them. He's been a hard worker in the weight room. He's gotten stronger and thicker and just a lot better."

Along with the school president's appointment to an athletic department committee, Lehman was awarded the 2008 Occidental College football coaches award. Lehman was also chosen as captain for his senior year.

He battled a hamstring injury last year, but was still chosen Honorable Mention on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team as Occidental (9-1 overall) won the league title.

The Tigers lost to Willamette University, 48-33, in the first round of the NCAA Div. III playoffs. Lehman caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Justin Goltz with 44 seconds to go in the loss to Willamette at McCulloch Stadium in Salem, Ore. He had nine receptions for 104 yards in the game.
...

Occidental was No. 15 in the final D3football.com Top 25 media poll for 2008.
...

What may happen this year, said Widolff, is that Occidental may play Lehman both the slot and wide receiver spots. As a wide out, he typically runs the longer routes.

"It's a fun position to play because you're the guy that the quarterback is looking for when you need to take a shot down the field," he said.

Lehman won a CIF North Coast Section Class A title as Justin-Siena's starting quarterback.

He was First-Team all-Marin County Athletic League at utility, as well as all-Napa County and Honorable Mention all-Metro North Bay by the San Francisco Chronicle.

He was also honored as a scholar-athlete from Napa County at the Northern California Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame in February.

"I've learned more from this game and it's taught me more than I would have ever thought — just how to work hard and how to stay persistent, and knowing that nothing great comes without hard work," he said.

"I've put more into this offseason and I'm going to put more into this summer than I have in any other season I've ever played. I couldn't be any happier, everything has worked out great. I've had the opportunity to play. It's been fun and I've enjoyed it absolutely 100 percent."

Camp for Occidental starts Aug. 15.

Cal Lutheran item from the Pasadena Star-News:

Quote
Not yet in college, Younker already gaining attention

Rian Younker hasn't played a single down of football at Cal Lutheran University and already he's earned a pretty cool nickname from one of his coaches.

"I got an e-mail (that) said, `Hey, Mr. All-Star MVP,' " said Younker with a laugh.

"They're enjoying what I'm doing and looking forward to me going up there."

Younker has kept busy since graduating from St. Francis High School. The 6-foot-1, 245- pound senior was invited to play in three all-star football games this summer, earning West MVP honors in the 33rd annual Hall of Fame Game a few weeks ago.

He was invited to play in the "Gridiron War" in Long Beach but couldn't attend because a family vacation already was scheduled.

Younker is equally excited to play with the L.A. County team that will go up against the Inland Empire in the third annual Fiesta Bowl at 7 on Saturday night at Whittier College. Younker has attended every L.A. County practice, which started last week and runs through Friday at Alhambra High School's Fourth Street field.

It didn't take long for Younker to impress coaches in the Hall of Fame Game. He was dubbed "an absolute beast" by Rosemead coach Matt Koffler, who coached the West.

"It's an honor to be playing in these all-star games," said Younker after another intense practice Tuesday night.

"You don't expect that after your last game in high school that you'll play again, then other coaches call you up and recognize your talent; it means a lot."
