I should have mentioned that.  Maybe that is where this topic came up.

Dead Poet Society

Well, my info was partially faulty/correct. The number of transfers was over twenty. Some players have already left. They started out with well over 100. Less now.

It looks split between 4 year and JUCO transfers...Including at 3 seniors new to Whittier.  I stand corrected on JC transfers. Please accept my apology.

I stand by my comments concerning this is not the norm for the SCIAC and what impact it may have on the league if the Poets have a great season, as well as the reasons I gave for why this maybe happening.

I don't have a problem with it as long as they are going for a degree.  They already know what d3 football is all about.

SCIAC Peeps...

How have the SoCal fires effected practices/other sports games so far?  Are the colleges in a area where the winds push the smoke towards campus or are they not effected at all?

Looking forward to traveling to Eagle Rock in a few weeks.

The air has been awful but has improved somewhat from earlier in the week. I have not heard of any cancellations for games this week. The air should be just fine by the 19th.

I don't have any idea how good they will or won't  be, but this is not your mothers Poet football team.

Not everyone transferred in:

QuoteEast Los Angeles looking for more wins

It was hard to ignore the charcoal plumes of ash and smoke hovering Weingart Stadium last week as dusk set in during an East Los Angeles College football practice.

Huskies new associate coach Steve Ruedaflores, of the Alhambra High School lineage that includes father Gil and brother Manny, had hoped for better conditions.

However, the rash of Southland fires had little patience for the homes in their way, let alone a football practice.

"I was hoping for one good strong wind, something that would blow away the smoke," Ruedaflores said. "But I guess we'll have to deal with the conditions as is."

Like the breeze he longed for, Ruedaflores was whisked into East Los Angeles this spring as a breath of fresh air.

The former Glendale College coach is sharing several duties with head coach Lynn Cain, who was a bit overwhelmed in his first season last year.
...

One advantage for this year's Huskies is that they don't have to deal with the strain of a long losing streak.

Last year's unit broke the program's 22-game skid with a 42-37 Pacific Conference win over Santa Monica on Nov. 1.

The victory was East Los Angeles' lone win in a 1-9 campaign.
...

On the other side of the pigskin, the Huskies defensive line has several new faces including Whittier College transfer Gary Rubalcava (St. Paul) and Juan Arias (Santa Fe).

Both are competing for starting end positions.
...

From Wikipedia:

QuoteELAC's football field is also famously known as a location where the film Forrest Gump was filmed in particular when Forrest Gump is mowing the football field at his Alma Mater, while the football field can be clearly recognized as ELAC's football field in the background.

Obviously an ELAC grad wrote that gracefully constructed sentence.

Good luck to all of the Southern California Football Association, American Division, Pacific Conference teams.

Congrats to the Tigers on their season opening win. Enjoyed meeting Oxyfan. But, in this one person's opinion, either Oxy isn't as good as advertised or Menlo is pretty good. Defensively anyway. Although neither team really impressed me. Menlo had just two decent plays from scrimmage, a run by Souza and a pass play in the second half. Most of Oxy's offense came through the air, and it still wasn't a whole lot. They had one 53 yd throw and catch for a TD (which accounted for about a quarter of all their passing yardage) and an interception return for a TD. The score at the half was 3-0 Oxy. Looking forward to seeing the Cats against the Tigers in two weeks and meeting more of the OXy faithful.

Oxy lost its starting QB and 4 of its 5 starting offensive linemen to graduation, so one could question their offensive experience.  The defense returns a number of its playoff players, so it should be an interesting season.  Nice win Tigers and get ready for those guys from Oregon in two weeks!!

To Linfield fans, success is like farts -- only their own smells good.

With the air quality down here these past couple of weeks I'd be happy to be able to smell any farts.... :)
Go Cats!
