Over and out
And while you're at it, why don't you uncover all those puff pieces on Obama and Clinton in the National Review and Washington Times.

Oxy football is just one of those dreaded "other Southland scores" that the Times reports.   A USC intra-squad Madden tournament gets more press in the "World Champion" than does Tiger football.

By the way, we're "partnering" (another of my favorite nouns turned into verbs) with KADY-TV to provide our first ever video coverage of Oxy football.  We'll also be doing a "twitter cast" of the game (www.twitter.com/oxybroadcast).   All the links are at www.oxybroadcast.com.  We'll even have Pat Coleman on at halftime and whenever else he wants to grab a mic.  How's that for multiple platforms?  (Wow, "platform" and "partnering" in the same post.  What other paradigms of the new millenium can I come up with)

The LA TIMES had shown Oxy some respect in the last 3-4 years. That beat reporter probably moved on.

Take heart, if it's another 66-13 zinger it will get in.

prediction time:

Word on the street is that Oxy has imported an all-German d-line specifically for this game.  Das Wertheimer, Das Hildensperger and Das Fischer are well built, fast, and powerful just like German cars.  The experienced Oxy defense makes the rock-it-man look more like the William Shatner version than the Elton John version.

On the other side of the ball, Oxy's offense gels after the extra bye-week practice behind the veteran recieving core.  Look for Jason "The Death Star" Haller to have at least one long run where he breaks 3-11 tackles and houses one for 6.  Make that 2 or more of those runs if the Patterson crew pipes the Imperial March theme over the loudspeakers at any point.

In all seriousness, good luck to both sides.  Here's hoping both teams stay healthy and use this game against top-tier competetion to get some playoff-like experience to use later down the line.

Final Score: 24-17 TIGERS
*Oxy hits all 3 PAT's and a field goal for good measure.  Shout out to Neil.*

NIHON: If the you say that the OXY O-line is built much like a German car, imma go ahead and say that OXY is much like the German economy, if the German car industry goes under, so does Germany...All kidding aside obviously whoever controls the line of scrimmage is going to come out victorious.....Linfield had 3 sacks compared to HS 0. On the other hand OXY gave up two sacks to an ( I dare say) improving Menlo team? I look forward to this LONG awaited match up of Linfield versus one of the top teams in the SCIAC.

P.S. I hope Simon has a good game too!  Sorry Joe, gotta go with the Alma Mater.  Eat some burritos for me and take care of my mom.

From ESPN.com:

QuoteObscure College Score of the Week: Pomona-Pitzer 20, Puget Sound 14 (overtime). Located in Claremont, Calif., Pomona College and Pitzer College are small liberal-arts schools that combine athletic facilities in order to field teams. Both schools use the same sports nickname, the Sagehens. The sagehen is a sexually dimorphic grouse, with males having puffed-out chests and performing elaborate strutting rituals to attract females; I do not know what this says about gender roles on the Pomona and Pitzer campuses. Though Pomona is an elite college, it boasts that "students let off steam by hitting the beach and the slopes on a same day." Mom and Dad, you might check to be sure you are getting your $50,568 worth.

....and all this time I thought Oxy's theme song was Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks.

I've seen very little love or interest for the Redlands/Whitworth game!  But it should be another great battle between two very good teams. I suspect coach Fazio ( Sr. and/or Jr.) will find a very simple but elegant way to stop the Whitworth Offense (probably by punching them in the mouth ;) ) However I think Whitworth is going to be hungry for some revenge after the butt kicking they received in Ted Runner last year, so it should be a great game!

If Selway stays health and the Bulldog D steps up, I'll predict a 24-14 win in favor of the Maroon and Gray

Bull:  Saw Whitworth and LaVerne and although Pirates won they weren't impressive (didn't have Anderson).  Redlands with Selway may be the best in SCIAC this year and I would be suprised if Redlands didn't handle their business in Spokane...your score looks about right.
