Pomona suffered a brutal last-second loss to Chapman this past Saturday, as reported in one of the local papers:

QuotePomona-Pitzer was dealt a 23-20 defeat by Chapman in a rare night game in Claremont...

The Sagehens (2-1) went ahead 20-17 when junior quarterback Jacob Caron engineered a 94-yard drive that took six minutes and ended with his 12-yard run with 23 seconds left.

But Chapman (2-1) got into field goal position with a 43-yard pass that took the ball to the Sagehens' 6. The Panthers were setting up for a game-tying field goal but the snap went awry and kicker Jimmy Adranley picked up the ball and threw it into the end zone, where sophomore John Stanley made the catch as time expired.

This is one of those obscure OxyBob postings that Stop the Hammer hates.
Stop hammering OB.  The rest of us like all of the information he is able to gather.

I don't think that Hammer Time has the skill set to slow down OB anytime soon.

Fear the Poet

since i have not been following as closely..what do you guys think of Chapman this year. Are they down abit?

This Saturday's schedule:

Cal Lutheran (2-1) @ Pomona (2-1)  1:00 p.m.
Claremont (2-1) @ La Verne (0-3)  1:00 p.m.
Whittier (1-2) @ Chapman (2-1)  7:00 p.m.
Redlands  (3-0) @ Oxy (2-1)  7:00 p.m.

Cal Lutheran will have no trouble with Pomona.

La Verne-Claremont is an interesting match-up. ULV only gained 6 yards rushing against Redlands, but racked up 295 yards passing. I will go with the Leopards playing at home to get their first win of the season.

Whittier hasn't had a winning season since Bob Owens coached there in 1997-98. Under Owens, Chapman has put together back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1994-96. Whittier is 1-9 against Chapman since 1999. Pick: Chapman.

Let's face it history does repeat itself, however there comes a time when enough is enough

In this case there's never enough history.

Eat 'em up, Tigers!

Fear not, GF. Overheated sports dads come and go, but OxyBob is forever.

Quotelooks like whoever can protect the QB will have the best shot.

I predict both Qbs will take off running and that will be the difference in the game.

(For the record, B. Owens now coaches at Chapman)   8)

Fear the Poet

we have a 12:30 Bruin game, so im going to try and make it to Chapman by 7.

Hopefully my Poets have straightened some things out this week.

Oxy Bob:

Are you picking Oxy over Redlands?
I seem to have missed your pick with the other games.
"Eat 'em up, Tigers" sounds more like a cheer, or a prayer, rather than a pick.

Note to Oxy Bob: If you want to call me during the game I will let you hear that
improved with practice CU pep band!

If anyone from Whitier is tail gating let me know where. I would like to come by and wish you all the best.

Good luck and injury free to all this weekend.

Even if I engaged in hours of detailed analysis, poured over mounds of statistics, consulted with opposing coaches and other football experts, and came to the conclusion that Redlands would beat Oxy, I'd rather have needles stuck in my eyes than ever pick Redlands to win. So, in answer to your question, I pick Oxy to beat UR this Saturday and always.

Io Triumphe!

Yes RFB, I will take a maroon beverage of your choice before the game. About 6 PM?

ATTENTION WHITTIER TAILGATERS:

I just received word that tailgating will be permitted in the parking lot directly behind
the visitors' seating are. Vehicles will need to be parked in the structure directly below the playing field. Enter off Walnut Avenue just east of Glassell Street. There is an elevator to assist moving your items to the tailgate area. Please remember that only gas grills are permitted. And, of course, no booze.

Enjoy what should be a close game.

Anyone interested in viewing the final seconds of the Chapman/Pomona football game last Saturday can go to youtube.com, search for " Chapman University football"
then scroll down to Chapman/Pomona game. It is a 90 second video posted by one of the parents. Very wild ending!

Nihon Tiger

Well it's Friday in The Land of The Rising Sun, and after braving yesterday's typhoon, I'm ready to make some predictions.

First the other games, AKA "who cares about anyone else, it's Redlands Week!"

Cal Lutheran (2-1) @ Pomona (2-1)
Pomona finally plays a team that isn't bottom tier in the West.  Pomona gets blown out, but the score is closer than expected because Caron Sr. always finds ways to pad his son's stats, for example throwing pointless TD passes with no time on the clock in the 4th Q.  48-35 CLU

Claremont (2-1) @ La Verne (0-3)
Tough one.  La Verne seems better than last year, but Claremont gave Oxy all it could handle for one half.  Neither team can play defense for 4 quarters.  Let's say 35-28 CMS.

Whittier (1-2) @ Chapman (2-1)
According to OB, Chapman have the Poet's number.   If Chapman bring extra towels to wipe off the Tsunami of alleged spit coming from #1, this one goes to the Panthers.  24-17 Chapman

NWC bonus pick:
Seems to me that Whitworth's few years of being a top-tier NWC team are over, and that they have become the NWC's only middle-tier team on the year (sorry Pirates fans).  Not to say they still aren't dangerous if overlooked.  Linfield beats Whitworth... lets say 35-21.

Now in the interest of not taking up a whole page with a single post, I will make my Oxy-Ratlins prediction on another post...

Is the Chapman QB over the line of scrimmage (the Pomona-Pitzer 49) when he releases the long pass?

Begins at about 0:32 secs.

(Did they "ice" the deep snapper?)
