The Whittier "fans" were saying the same kinds of things about their coach until they had a solid win against Chapman.

I saw Chapman play against Oxy.  The QB looked like a SCIAC starter to me.

Honest it is. You just happened to enter the forest after dark and step on a hornets nest.

It's a different QB now.

Also, players on the team have confirmed that Rouch's "year off" to pursue academic endeavors in the reason that Coach Owens has refused to put him in. Those words have come out of Owens' mouth.

I guess it's a message he's trying to send to his team, and as the head coach he has every right to do such a thing. The question becomes is he cutting of his nose?

There is just a long history on this board of "new" posters coming on here with an agenda or trying to prop up their relative, themselves, or a friend.  It's easy to see through it and the folks that post on here (both SCIAC and NWC posters) don't tolerate it.

It's really great if you come on here to support the person you know (like Little Ricky's great parents) but just don't do with with a front.  Now that we all know you and Rouch are boys...I'll leave it alone.  Good luck.

Chapman's endowment is over 100 million bigger than Pomona's. So I guess I'll keep it out of my pants?

In 2008, Pomona's endowment was just shy of 1.8 billion.
In 2005, Chapman's endowment was reported as 231 million.

Not sure where Chapman has gone since 2005 or what has happened with Pomona . . . but I can find out pretty easily . . .

I'm gonna bet that your assertion that Chapman's endowment is "over 100 million bigger than Pomona's" may prove to be not reality based.

And what happened to the Independents board? Do keep coming back.

In fact, for CLU, it would be wonderful if your guy came in with 2:00 left in the second quarter and led Chapman to a victory.
Might be a screen play there even though it's been done before. Of course, one would have to add an hour, or more, of that negligee run down to the fountain and get a waiver from the Orange City council to let some co-eds get wet in that fountain.

Notice that every other athletic program at Chapman has developed positively during the schools boom in attendance and financial growth this decade; besides football. Basketball, Lacrosse, and Baseball have all made significant improvement.

Thanks guys.
Women's Volleyball is currently ranked 8th in the West. :)
Men's soccer is ranked 6th.

Mr. Ypsi

Moving from Chapman to something even stranger ;):

From Chuck Shepherd's "New of the Weird" column ('collected from the mainstream press'):

"In Ana Lee Spray's garage in Riverside County, CA, a full-grown mountain lion was cornered and held at bay for 45 minutes by Spray's three Chihuahuas, yapping at it relentlessly.  Eventually, animal control officers arrived and removed the grateful lion."

That is one 'wussy pussy', or do you have an epidemic of Chihuahuas on steroids?! ;D

Anyone heard of this story who has more details?

I guess this is a bad time to plug my new reality show, "Island Of Love" ...

It showcases the samoan sensation superstar QB, Jericho Toilolo, in his eldless quest to find the right Somoan woman to call ihs own.

These women will fight for his heart and his "stamp of approval" coming in the fashion of a tribal tattoo to match his own.

Contest will include bobbing for footballs, mud wrestling in the "purple pit", and pick that door in the famous Grace room 14114. Auditions will be held in Richter hall and will be stricktly monitored by members of the production staff - Merrill, Redd, and Lopes.

You're just flat-out wrong. Among liberal arts colleges, only Williams has a bigger endowment than Pomona.

Rouch didn't play from 06-08 because QB Eric Marty was actually a really good quarterback in that time span. The article mentions that; it also mentions the current state of the QB situation at Chapman. Compare Marty's numbers from last year to the numbers produced thus far; then note that all of the top receivers from last year are back this year.

The issue is obviously QB.

Last season in 7 games Dan Delahoussaye had 27 catches for 540 yards. This season in 7 games he has 31 catchers for 438 yards. Last season in 6 games Chris Langstaff had 17 catches for 241 yards. This season in 7 games he has 29 catches for 406 yards. Last season Chapman also had Mike Christensen at running back; he had 837 yards rushing. No Christensen this year.

Yeah, Eric Marty was the starter in 2006, 2007 and 2008, but Luke Robinson also got playing time in 2006 and 2007. Rouch? Nothing.

As for knocking Bob Owens because your pal's not playing, well, I've heard that gripe before from lots of parents/relatives/friends of players who aren't playing.

Let's try and keep it classy guys...

You can see the awful QB play, and the "we want Rouch" chants for yourself.

Yeah, that's real classy. Do you do that chant right in front of Willcockson's and Vanderweil's parents? Nice.

Funny stuff Kingsmen 4...

Wow, where to even begin.

This is a Chapman team that was 5-4 last year and has only 4 returning offensive starters, and 7 total returners on offense and defense.  They are on track to go 4-5 with a loss to Redlands and a win over La Verne.  Really not that disappointing if you ask me.  Maybe Chapman fans and players felt differently but I doubt anyone else really expected them to do much better this year, no matter who the coach and qb were.

As for Owens, he is a proven winner  Not being named Redlands and winning a SCIAC title in the 1990's was a big accomplishment, only Whittier and La Verne did it.  Chapman's wins from 2000-2005 in chronological order: 2,3,3,3,4,2.  Wins since Owens took over, even without teams where he was the sole recruiter: 4,6,5.  That's called marked improvement.

Next point of contention: No one gives a sh*t what your buddy did in high school.  In D3 all anyone cares about is if you can play, if you are dedicated to the team, and if you are a leader (especially for QB's).  We had a guy Danny Southwick who had won fb scholarships at FBS Utah, FBS BYU, FBS Oregon State and FCS Dixie State and transferred to Oxy and sat behind our QB Goltz (no offense to Danny who is a great guy and great QB).  Point being what you did somewhere else doesn't matter.  I realize your boy's hs stats might be good background for your article, but I felt that point should be made anyhow.

I don't know if this is the deal with your friend or not, but there are some guys who think they can come to a D3 school, focus on other things, quit the team and come back numerous times, take the offseasons off, make as small a commitment to football as possible, and then show up to training camp and end up as the starter.  Then they get pissed when they sit behind "inferior" athletes who busted their asses year-round to get better, learn the system, and integrate themselves with their teammates.  Part of the appeal of D3 athletics is being able to focus on academics and lead a real college life, but there is a distinction.  Again not saying for certain this is your friend, but he wouldn't be the first.

Finally,

Have your boy tell Berg that "King's Ransom" on ESPN 30 for 30 rocked.

FunkFootball

Stats can be deceiving... the results are in the scoreboard and the results.

Also, you talk about Chapman losing starters... did you bother to research how many graduated vs how many quit?

If a total of 5 starters quit, does that reflect Owens, the program, or the player? Usually it's all three. Obviously Owens' coaching had a lot to do with it though.

Once again, I'm not saying to fire him; sure he was a capable head coach; but different players respond to different coaching techniques. There's a very good chance that the demographic that makes up the Chapman football team doesn't respect Owens the way he was respected 15 years ago... note that was 15 years ago. Owens is 15 YEARS Older. Look at the trends in both College and Pro Football: the coaches are getting younger because the players can buy in easier. The coach can still relate.

You can use numbers and record to defends Owens; but as the article points out the team is winning games by small margins that shouldn't be won by small margins.

Before you guys slam the concept come check out the game this Saturday! In the very least it's worth it to check out Redlands who are a very good team. If you don't see Owens coaching a talented team under performing than I'll swallow my tongue. If you don't think that a roster of 8 qb's has to have someone better than the current starter, then I'll swallow my tongue. Rouch has worked his way up to #2 on the depth chart right now and he's getting more reps in practice everyday.

Finally, calling cheering for players to start "unclassy" is a joke. Welcome to the world of sporting events. Just because the Chapman Panthers aren't the Tennessee Volunteers doesn't mean their fans can't react as passionately. If anything, the Panther fans have the right to cheer more passionately given how invested they are in the program through their everyday life.

That's part of what makes D-3 great isn't it? At least it is to me.

And if other players parents are in the crowd; oh well. I didn't realize that I was supposed to treat a College Football Game like a frigging Broadway musical, but I guess that's why Chapman spent 30+ million on their new stadium; so I can sit silently and respect players mothers.

But please, really, come to the game Saturday. You'll see for yourself that this is a program that has done nothing to evolve. Owens was a winner in the mid 1990's.

As for the endowment mistake... I mistakenly looked up Pitzer College's endowment. I concede that you're correct.... Pomona has a very nice endowment. As does Occidental.
