That's great!....but you should have gone with a company that would throw in lights too, for whatever you and O Bob could add to the pot.

A sad story from the San Bernardino Sun:

QuoteEx-Miller standout Flores dead at 30

Allen Flores, a standout football and baseball player at Miller High School and Pomona-Pitzer College, died Tuesday from complications of a brain aneurysm. He was 30.

Flores, who built a career working for sports agent Scott Boras, was found by his wife of 15 months unconscious on the floor of his garage Monday following an apparent workout. After unsuccessful brain surgery Monday night, Flores was pronounced brain dead Tuesday around 7:30 a.m. and eventually taken off life support.
...

Allen Flores tore his anterior cruciate ligament as a sophomore in college, which ended his football career, but he continued to play baseball until an injury prevented him from playing his final collegiate season.
...

Having "never seen a B," according to his father, Flores turned his degree from Pomona-Pitzer into a career specializing in dealing with Latin baseball players for super-agent Boras. It was his dream job, his father said.
...

Allen Flores and his wife were going to join the Flores family for dinner in Fontana on Monday when he was found unconscious on the floor of his garage. Flores was taken to San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland before a helicopter transported him to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he had surgery in an attempt to alleviate the swelling from an artery that had burst in his brain.
...

Condolences to the Flores family and to Pomona.

La Verne coaching item from the San Bernardino Sun:

QuoteBrent Baier has joined the University of La Verne football coaching staff and will work with the Leopards' quarterbacks.

Baier recently served as offensive administrative assistant at the University of Idaho.

He was quarterbacks coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and also served as recruiting and video coordinator there. His playing days were spent at Cal Lutheran.

The Leopards open the regular season against Azusa Pacific on Sept. 11.

Obrey Brown, Sports Editor of the Highlight News wrote an opinion piece in why Chapman isn't a member of the SCIAC.  To sum it up: the SCIAC doesn't want them because they know Chapman would dominate the conference.

Highland News: Chapman will always be an independent seeking SCIAC entry

In the last 10 years, Chapman is 26-32 against the SCIAC, which includes 1-9 against CLU, 1-9 against Redlands, and 1-6 against Oxy. Way to dominate!

I thought the point of that article was that Chapman fit well into the SCIAC because they lost to Linfield in the playoffs (baseball).   ;D  Seriously though, it seemed like the entire article was basing Chapman's dominance on the baseball (and maybe basketball?) teams performance the last two years....perhaps a letter to the writer is needed--OxyBob?

Laughable article at best.

"Chapman, at least generally, would likely dominate most sports."

Hmmmmm....

I don't think that "dominate" most sports would be applicable in this case. I would think that be very "competative" is more in line with reality.

Oxy Bob, look at all sports and let me know the results. Without checking it out, I assume that you are referring to football. What about  men's basketball the last five years, or women's basketball or baseball, or volleyball, or soccer (men & women) and softball. You just couldn't resist another jab at your favorite non-SCIAC school could you?

But reality is, CU joining the SCIAC probably will not happen in the very near future unless some schools drop some sports. But that is ok, you should always do the best you can with the hand you are dealt, or created for yourself.

I found it hard to follow which sports the writer was referring to.

Anybody remember (or "heard about" for those in my age bracket) why chapman is no longer in the sciac? Weren't they once? I thought I remembered hearing something about violations of some sort that got them booted?

According to the SCIAC website, Chapman was a member of the conference from 1950-1952.

Please educate me , as this was long before my time, as to why CU is no longer a member of the SCIAC.

Shaq is on his tv show right now taking on Tyson Gay at Occidental College...pretty cool seeing the field and weight room after having just been there for a tour.
